John Mills had a singing part in the musical "The Good Companions" at London's Her Majesty's theater in 1974. It closed after just over 250 performances.
I saw an old interview with John and he said he when he started out he wanted to be a song and dance man - his hero was Fred Astaire. He was probably having the time of his life here.
Grew up watching these three. Haley was just a bit older than me and I loved her movies. I saw a recent talk show appearance with Haley and her sister Juliet. My, she has aged very well. Not that appearance is that important, but you can't mistake her for anyone else. Love her.
I was a kid I saw Hayley Mills in The Moon Spinners. For the first time in my life something happened to me. I has strong feelings that were driving me to uh, really like Hayley! We lived in a rural area. I never saw a girl that age. Everything about her was new, amazing.... I haven’t seen that movie since then!
You can watch Moon Spinners on CZcams TV or maybe it was Netflix. I watched it for the first time several weeks ago! I liked it! I think Hayley is a wonderful actress!
Those beautiful days of innocence and class are gone now. Replaced with self indulgence and crassness. I am thankful I grew up in that era but so very sad and worried for my young granddaughters who will face (I believe) a bleak future until Revelation (and that may be sooner than all of us think).
I'd love to hear what Haley has to say because she *clearly* was not happy with Danny touching her as she jerked her body away and the look of astonishment and bewilderment was priceless and at the end when they both kissed her and she quickly pulls away when they apparently weren't done..
Ty for posting! Hayley mentions being on this show with her dad in her 2021 memoir, Forever Young. She shares that her father had originally wanted to be a song and dance man, so I got double pleasure watching once through with Hayley, and then with John. I'm sure that was a proud moment for him as a father, and also obviously a fun one!
Wonderful. Big crush on her since I saw "Tiger Bay", on 8pm Sunday night at the movies, very early 60s. Me about 7 or 8. Always watched the Danny Kaye show too, but I must have missed this show. She helped me to grow up inside of a movie theater !
Lol! Same here! That girl is magical! I recall seeing The Parent Trap in 1970 when I was 10 years old, at a time when most boys consider girls just pests and annoying, and I totally fell for her, even though she was, I thought at the time, only 13 or 14 years old. She was an "older" woman but I was totally willing to make a concession since it was Hayley after all. I wanted to know more about her, obviously there was no internet in that day, and I found an Almanac where I found she was born in 1946! She was 24 years old in 1970. I was devastated to learn she was waaaay older than me, but the crush remains to this day. Ah, first love, you never forget it, eh?
Why is nearly everyone in this thread saying that Danny was grabbing Hayley, trying to snap her bra and making him out to be a creep? Grow up guys! Danny was friendly with the Mills family. It’s obvious he’s tickling Hayley and trying to make her laugh and it worked! She was the same age as his daughter, only a few months older. He was playing around with her in a fatherly way. What the hell is the matter with you people?
Yep! And to see people attack and accuse Danny Kaye when he can't defend himself is annoying beyond words. That type of lowness and trash belongs only in gossip columns.
If they did the "Harry Potter" movies in the 1960's,Hayley should've done those instead of the Disney films. She could've been a GREAT Hermione Jean Granger.
Scene looks a bit uncomfortable for Hayley. She talks about this show and skit in her book "Forever Young" she didn't have much to say about it that she wanted to reverse more and Danny didn't, and when they went over to Danny's house for dinner (said he was a great cook) that he had an ego and that he was rude to his wife which she didn't like. Perhaps she didn't like his hands on her and felt it was childish?
About this "Danny grabbed her" racket, I'd say: Why in earth would anyone try something vulgar not just in front of a TV audience, but with her father right there? I mean, come on. If somebody was going to do something indecent, they'd do it out of sight and without father there. Also: only a low mind would attemp to smear someone's good name when they are unable to defend themself. Danny was a good and upright man, and there's no doubt that vulgarity was the furthest thing from his mind. She was just ticklish and Danny made her laugh.
Maria Therese thank you so much for posting this! Danny had a running gag with people who were ticklish on the show, and he especially repeated it with children If he knew they were ticklish, he would utilize that knowledge as a way to make them laugh to add something else to a scene. He was ticklish himself and many of his guest stars who knew where he was most ticklish (under his chin) would also do the same. It added additional cuteness to the program and the audience ate it up. Nothing but innocence in the intentions. As you say, Danny was a good and upstanding man. And he adored children. If he was a creep like these people are claiming he never would have been allowed to be the goodwill ambassador for UNICEF. People today just jump without knowing any facts. I wish they would learn to use their brains instead of acting like idiots all the time. Thank you for standing up for Danny !
@@NashaDean Thank you for the info and kind words! I didn't know about his running "tickle" gag, and that definitely proves the point. It's rare to find good people like Mr. Kaye, and so I really care that their goodness is somehow appreciated. And I care about facts. I'm actually planning a trip to the Library of Congress to research the Danny Kaye/Sylvia Fine collection as prep for writing a biography about Danny! Again, thanks for your comments and common sense!
These are the sort of comments that drive the rest of the world to conclude that US citizens are crazy. (Although obviously, not all are crazy; many of them vote Democrat :-)
At 1:59 Danny Kaye attempts to put his hand on Hayley’s waist and TWICE she shows that she doesn’t like it at all. Hayley’s father gives a quick glance to see what the problem is. It obviously was not part of the routine as Hayley’s father doesn’t even touch her. Since they were professionals they continued the routine as if nothing happened. Hayley didn’t look too comfortable at the end when both her father and Kaye kiss her. Just saying.
Like most Baby Boomers, I grew up with a mad crush on Hayley Mills.
Didn't know John Mills could sing and dance. Danny Kaye was so graceful. Delightful.
I have always admired John Mills as an actor, but I never knew he could sing and dance as well - this was delightful!!

Look up the movie,The Green Cockatoo from 1933
He started out as a chorus dancer in stage musicals.
That's just it. He can't and the other two aren't any better.
John Mills is fabulous! Who knew he was so light on his feet! :-)

When I die I want to see and be with Hayley Mills in heaven--FOREVER!
You'll have to wait in line--there's a lot of others like me first in line,LOL!

I had a schoolboy crush on her..I was 13! First saw her in The Parent Trap. Like all her early stuff , especially Whistle Down The Wind.
Never envisioned John Mills as a song and dance man, haha! 😂
Hmm...her reaction to Danny touching her back was priceless

Do you have the WHOLE version of "The Danny Kaye Show" with John & Hayley Mills? I know Hayley can sing, but John? YIKES!
So wholesome. I can’t watch too much, at what this world has become. Too sad.
❤️❤️❤️
Those Millses had charm to burn!
2:25 Beatles We love you..... me too :))
I think John Mills was a good dancer and kept in step.
But he's throwing off the time when singing

What she could (should of!) have done was Kubrick's "Lolita'!!!
Oh my gosh! You are so right!
Hayley will turn 78 on April 18,2024. What do you think of that?
Did Hayley & John did this while they did "The Chalk Garden"?
Yes.
Danny kaye tickling Hayley Mills on her back.

1:59 and 2:03 that's is weird
John Mills is adorable doing this clunky little number. I don't quite know why but even as a child, I have always found Danny Kaye really obnoxious.
Is this BEFORE Hayley had bulimia? She ALWAYS snacks on junk food and cakes, and that's why she's a vegetarian.
Yes. She was 17 when she did this.
She became bulimic in 1966. This was earlier. She became a b
Vegetarian because she had seen animals suffer on her farm, and decided to give up meat
At 1:59 and 2:03 Kaye grabs her bra strap and she successfully shrugs him off. Kaye looks embarrassed
expo66 I saw that- Kaye is creepy his stupid dancing is nauseating

expo66 Kaye was known for that stuff. John Mills was a British aristocrat - a fabulous family Hayley & sis had.
@@petebailey6977 I noticed that she shrugged him off too. It was not subtle at all.

Whatevs. That's your interpretation
Danny Kaye was a good guy with a fine sense of decency...don't accuse him when he's unable to defend himself.
Anyway, why in earth would anyone ever try such a thing on the TV screen? If you're going to be indecent, you do it where no one else can see.
creepy interpretation, Brian
It tells more about you than Danny Kaye.
