Seized Audi A6 C6 3.0 TFSI Engine Removal | Step by Step Guide on Removing the Engine Without a Lift

  • Bought this 09 Audi A6 with a seized 3.0T engine under the guise that it just needed a starter or an access module to activate it. The previous owner replaced the starter and still nothing when turning the key over. Turns out the engine was seized and that's why the starter wouldn't rotate the engine.
    In this video I will be showing you how to remove a seized Audi A6 C6 3.0 Engine. When these motors are seized you HAVE to pull the torque converter with them, there is no other option. So, unless you have a lift, the whole front end needs to be removed for access.
    What's even worse is the torque converter is nearly impossible to remove from this seized engine. So, in the next video I'll show you how I had to cut the engine apart to get the torque converter off.
    This will be a 3-part series consisting of a removal video, a teardown video, and finally a reinstallation video with a freshened up used engine.

    Love the quote “If you don’t what triple squares are, Audi is gonna make you learn”. I got educated on my very first repair when I had to replace the front wheel bearings.

      @Mechani_Cole  Před 6 měsíci

      My very first time coming across a triple square many years ago I tried to use a torx bit to remove it due to not having the right triple square. It stripped the bolt and made a 1 hour job a 4 hour job plus more tools. You only make that mistake once😅
      Thanks for watching🫡

    Thanks so much for this video! Most videos out there on these cars drop the engine with a lift and I’m diy repairing an overheated engine in the college parking lot and need it to come out the front so this is a life saver!

    Really good stuff. I dont have a 3.0, but I've pulled many an Audi engine (usually 2.0 FSI and 2.7) and sometimes its just nice to watch someone else do it.

      Thanks for the comment bro, much appreciated! Just know anyone can do it with a little patience, the right tools and the right videos. I was never able to afford mechanic work in my early years so I had to learn the hard way. Also never went to school for this. Just like to help others, thanks again for watching🫡

    Im doing it right now,, watching again for extra tips since i forgat,,BUT NEW TIPS ,,, INSTEAD OF BATTELING THE Exhaust WITH THE 3 BOLTS,,remove it from the engine heads,,12 mm bolts,, dont disconect the power steering or the ac compressor,,just unplug the lines,, nd that gives u alot of room nd saves time 🙏🙏but thank u again 🙏🙏💯💯

    • @Mechani_Cole
      @Mechani_Cole  Před 3 měsíci

      @edgaravila5778 no, please dont disconnect the AC lines unless all your FREON is drained. I kept mine in the system. It's toxic and not legal to let leak out on your own.
      Removing the headers is also much more time consuming then removing the 3 bolts on the back of the exhaust in my opinion. There is a lot more bolts on the headers. Makes for a harder install as well

      Can loosen the trans lines. Maybe can get a small extension in there. Only need to remove the bolts holding the engine to the trans

    Awesome video bro. I think these engines crap out because of the supercharger intercooler bricks leaking and locking up the motor. Also I'm hearing a lot about leaking injectors these days

    • @Mechani_Cole
      @Mechani_Cole  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Really good points. I'm going to change the supercharger bricks now. I've also heard of the high-pressure fuel pump leaking too much gas into the oil. I also think people just go too long without oil changes. I've seen people wait 10-12k on oil changes which blows my mind. Appreciate your comment, thank you🫡

      You can either loosen the trans lines or the best way is to use an extension, maybe even a swivel attachment for the right angle @corbinaycock1918

      You can. Just takes a little more work and a few T connectors and tubing. I'm going to try to make a custom one pretty soon myself for the 3.0

      I just stumbled upon your videos and they’re awesome. How much do you charge on average for carbon clean on the 4.2? I’m looking around and prices fluctuate a lot.

    • @Mechani_Cole
      @Mechani_Cole  Před 7 měsíci

      @t-rav206 I do the 4.2 for about $600 usually. Appreciate the comment, I'm located in Las Vegas if you ever need help🫡
      I have a 4.2 carbon cleaning video on my page too

  • @franksls1
    @franksls1 Před 6 měsíci +1

    Hey man, if my engine is not siezed. Am i able to pull the engine without the torque converter attached? If so, how is that achieved?

    • @Mechani_Cole
      @Mechani_Cole  Před 6 měsíci +1

      @franksis1 yes, you can remove it without the converter. Once you remove the starter, there will be an access hole where the starter went to get to the bolts. You have to then turn the engine until you see 1 of 3 bolts exposed through that hole. Then you have to break each one free. This can be challenging at the angle provided. You will also need this STUBBY triple square socket set. All the other ones are too big and you'll never have enough room. - amzn.to/48sH0k6

      Thank you! Im in the middle of this now. Thank you for making this video! You wouldn't happen to have a video on replacing the timing chains would you?

    • @Mechani_Cole
      @Mechani_Cole  Před 6 měsíci +1

      @franksls1 no, just the upper tensioners. There should be a few other videos out there on the timing for this engine. Also, here is a free resource- charm.li
      That gives free service manuals for most vehicles

    • @Mechani_Cole
      @Mechani_Cole  Před 23 dny

      Not really needed, but sure, you can do it that way too. AC is ice cold after service without having to drain or fill gas. Remember, not everyone has a machine to recover it. I make videos for diy people🫡
