- Exploring Bronx, Bronx Walking Tour, Walking Bronx, Little Ireland, Woodlawn Heights, Yonkers
In this video, I explore Woodlawn Heights, also known as Little Ireland in the Bronx. It is one of the most Northern areas in the Bronx bordering Yonkers in Westchester County. I also cross from the Bronx to Yonkers to see what the area looks like. The neighborhood is mostly Irish and working class people, but you will find a bit of all nationalities. Also you will find restaurants, Irish Pubs, bars. It is a hidden gem in the Bronx. It gives a vibe of a little town in the city. The neighborhood is served by Metro North and is a 30 minute commute to Grand Central in Midtown Manhattan. Hope you enjoy this video, stay tune for more.

Nice young man doing a journalistic job on sections of the city. Bravo.
I agree with you, Manny. The Bronx is so huge and has some beautiful neighborhoods.
Indeed, it has many type of neighborhoods.
yes sadly back in the 60's and 70's large swaths were allowed to rot because of politics and race... but there are indeed still nice neighborhoods in The Bronx
I lived in Woodlawn from 1988 t0 2003 and loved every minute of living there great people great bars great neighbourhood !
I grew up in that neighborhood. WELCOME. Great video.
Thank you Sgt. Pepper.
I had a good friend who lived in this neighborhood. He passed away about a year ago. He had to move out when his financial situation changed. He clawed his way back to just outside of his old neighborhood but never made it... RiP Jimmy
4:22 Mulligans Fireside Pub... My friend Jim was a regular here when he passed away they held an event to tell stories about him, laugh and cry. If I still lived up north I would have gone
Ah that's sad, i used to live on 236th street.
@@bathtownship Thank you, it's sad and I miss him.. Today is the 1 year anniversary of his death. He lived in the apartments on the corner of E 240th and McLean and he had an apartment at some point off of Katonah on one the east 230s streets. I don't remember exactly where.
Sorry to hear about your friend passing.
Gorgeous area. Very family oriented too
Manny, thank you for sharing! I'm in the process of signing a rental lease in Wakefield (which you did a video of, as well) I completely agree, the Bronx gets a bad rap, there are beautiful neighborhoods to discover.
Indeed, the Bronx is really big but people only focus on the bad areas, there are tons of great neighborhoods in the Bronx
Walking street tour wonderful my friend thank you for sharing
I hope Woodlawn stay that way don’t need people coming in and destroying it
Interesting to know, thank you.
Cool, that's definitely further up in the Bronx, never been there hehe.. great walk!
Way up on the borderline of Yonkers.
Thanks manny I love it
Glad you enjoyed it.
Never been here before. Thanks for the tour.🙂
Me either, I knew I had to check it out
It doesn't matter where you go in the world, the people make the place.
Watching here my dear friend ❤️
Great.TY
Looks like a great place to escape the ruckus that NYC seems to have
Indeed it is, its still part of NYC, but a different vibe.
Thanks for sharing Manny, I passed the McLean by in the road, never seen the entire neighborhood
It's a nice neighborhood
Nice work!
Thanks Colin
I Love Woodlawn Bronx
omg i live around and didn’t even know that it existed😮
I didn't knew about it either, that's why I went to explore.
3"20 Yo Manny, well wishes ! The Bronx and Yonkers melt together in that spot and you know where you are by the change in color of the bus stops, fire hydrants and street signs, cops from both places crisis cross on patrol.
As i new yrkers try to keep in their own meeighborhood you just walked thru an old italian ynkers gramps was a cop there then he quit and went to work at otis
.
O never saw this neighborhood. O can see where i used to work inn the post office
Behind Woodlawn cemetery, I need to go the rest of the neighborhood, not far Mercy hospital now call Montefiore hospital
love the videos. new to channel
Welcome
I've watched a few of these walking tours of the Bronx, specifically the NE Bronx and they are usually quite complimentary, which is nice, but they are also always completely shocked, which, to me, speaks to the total ignorance of the person making the video. Not for nothing, but it seems the narrator has received all previous info on the Bronx based on news reports, which we know is going to be mostly bad. I watched a walking tour by Action Guy. He was covering the Wakefield section which he kept calling the Eastchester section. He also kept insisting it was one of the poorest sections of the city. Ridiculous when the average home price in the area at that time was $625k. But he, too, was surprised by the clean streets, well manicured lawns and friendly people. Here, Manny expresses surprise that there would be a lot of pizza shops and an Indian restaurant in a largely Irish neighborhood in NYC, as if NYC is not the greatest melting pot in the world. Every neighborhood mixes cultures. In what neighborhood can you not get Chinese food or pizza or Indian food or Italian food or a burger? Oy Vey!
I grew up , within a mile or 2 or this walking tour. My grandfather is buried in that cemetery (as is Dizzy Gillespie and Big Pun, by the way. Would have been interesting if he had mentioned that cemetery borders that neighborhood). I now live on the other side in Yonkers. If Manny had continued walking down McLean Ave, he would have ended up right back in the Bronx, with the Bronx on one side of the street and Yonkers on the other. But again, he did not do his homework.
So, I hope if you knew nothing about this neighborhood before and your interest is piqued, you take the time to delve further into it and get the facts for yourself. Obviously the place comes alive on St. Patrick's day, but there are many points of interest. Van Cortlandt Park is, in fact, so huge, that a highway (I87) runs right through it. On the other side is another great Bronx neighborhood Riverdale/Kingsbridge. End of the #1 line. BTW, I am the one thumbs down vote for all the reasons I listed here. Maybe Manny will do another tour of this neighborhood and address some of these items. Contact me, Manny. I'd be happy to tour with you, although walking is a problem. But we could do a ride along or two.
This old English houses style
Cuidate, paz
Gracias
Id like 2 c a white boy walking thru morris park filming 😂😂😂
Probably nothing will happen, Morris Park has a highly Italian and Albanian community
