If you've ever experienced a significant food poisoning event and found that your digestive health has never been the same since, you're not alone. Many of my patients can trace their chronic digestive symptoms back to an obvious food poisoning event. Today we'll explore the fascinating link between food poisoning and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO).
Is there a causal link between food poisoning and IBS or SIBO? Some of the cutting edge science, initially done in animals and now in humans is saying YES.
The underlying mechanism involves food poisoning bacteria secreting toxins that can confuse the immune system. The immune system recognises these toxins and sometimes mistakenly targets the digestive tract, disrupting the normal function and leading to SIBO. Additionally, poor motility in the digestive tract can further contribute to SIBO development.
To properly treat SIBO we need to
1) First, confirm the presence of SIBO through testing.
2) Next determine if slow motility is a contributing factor. Tracking gut transit time can help here.
While advanced tests for antibodies and toxins exist, they can be expensive and challenging to access here in Australia. If you've been struggling with SIBO for an extended period, they may be worth running. - Věda a technologie
Great video as usual, Todd. Have you ever thought about releasing an e-book or some kind of guide so people who can't work with you directly can still benefit from all of your knowledge on this topic? I'd love to work with you, but I understand you don't accept patients from outside of Australia. Or, do you have any colleagues you'd feel comfortable recommending that DO with with individuals in the US? Thank you so much.
Great idea. This will make Todd’s invaluable information and expertise more accessible for all of us outside of Australia
Yes! I'm currently working on a few digital products. The real challenge is finding the right herbs as I use some unusual and hard to find ones. I'm currently thinking I'll put something together and offer a number of different herbal and natural solutions and people can see if they can track them down on their end. Would love your thoughts here!
@@ByronHerbalist I think that's a great idea Todd!. The issue is that so many doctors seem to not understand how to treat these types of issues and people suffering like us have no where to turn to.
I think the 2nd best thing aside from working with someone like yourself, is to have access to some kind of guide or roadmap where we can at least try to start the healing process on our own.
Yes! I've definitely looked at some of your product recommendations in the past so I absolutely think having you recommend trusted products would be extremely helpful.
@ByronHerbalist Todd, you have such a passion for herbal medicine, I'd love to see a tutorial on how to make a liquid herb tincture--even a simple, mono-ingredient one like ginger! 😃
Brilliant video so helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Samanella poisoning and a hospital stay may be where the chronic constipation started. I am going to try your suggestions from the constipation video. And this one! Thank you very much!
Thanks for doing a video on this. It's indeed very important and I've just finished dealing with SIBO induced by food during foreign travel. Finally recovered using some of the methods you mentioned in your past videos and through reading lots of academic studies! :)
So glad the content has been helpful and that you are back on track!
What did u do?
Hi Todd. Thanks for yet another wonderful video. What is your input regarding extreme upper GI symptoms such as constant burping in methane Sibo patients? Other than low stomach acid and pancreatitis enzymes do you think overgrowth in the gut itself could be the cause? For me as soon as I eat ( even just a gulp of water) I burp and that’s literally within seconds of me putting anything in my mouth. so at that point the food hasn’t even gotten into my small intestine. My speculation after dealing with this for all these years is that not only I have overgrowth in my small intestine but also I have it in my gut. I know you mentioned the treatment would be the same, but is there anything else I need to do to address the overgrowth in my Gut? As far as stomach acid and digestive enzymes support, I’ve done it all with almost zero to very little improvement. Thanks.
I liked your new style 👍❤
Thanks!
Yes, My ex room mate poisoned my food right before I moved out. I was violently sick for 2 days. Ive had SIBO Ever since and it just got worse over the years. Now its full blown. Still fighting it.
Thanks so much for the video! It was great! Could you share what are considered very high doses of ginger and for how long it is safe to take them?
Thanks so much for sharing all this, it is very generous. A lot of the information, apart from being hard to digest and parse, is behind paywalls too (e.g. some research papers). So thank you!
Thanks for the great feedback. 1-2 grams per day of ginger is quite a strong dose. I would be comfortable with a patient on this dose for months at a time.
@@ByronHerbalist Great, thanks! I was considering making a tincture, but it seems I can get this dose with capsules. Thanks!
Great video thank you Todd. My symptoms fit exactly that timeline from a stomach bug until now, however I have tested negative for SIBO with a minimal reading. Still not sure what to make of it but have been improving slowly with Betaine HCL and digestive enzymes.
Could be leaky gut
Hi :) What dosages of immature bitter orange and high dose ginger? What should we look for in the supplement itself?(oil, tincture, pills, etc)
Thanks, Tod :)
❤❤❤the three reasons for me.Three months water diarrhea, hospital couldnt help Now what to do
So if the root cause is food posioning, would it be healed?
Hi. You are a guru! Can you pls tell me what herb cures amoeba and then for giardia? Also for tingling in the toes and bottom of the feet. I usually thought that was a Mg deficiency bit could ot be related to a bug. Lastly a colourless odorless discharge that trickles down like urine but not as a urine stream pet say just a trickle from a woman. It comes out as if the petsin is having their menses but not alot like a period however it feels like they are having a period. Sometimes after eating something sweet & even when the thing they eat is not. And there is no infection or STD. They are not sexually active. Can candida or amoeba cause this or release toxins when they are in someone. Pls respond - Thanks
Thanks for your comment! There's a clip somewhere here on giardia. Candida sounds like it could be driving some of those symptoms listed too. I'll be putting together lots more here as best I can!
What if salicylate & phenol intolerant, and can’t take those prokentics?
I would address the intolerances first and then move onto root cause treatments next
@@ByronHerbalist root cause is mold. I’ve done a year each with a different ND practitioner since 2020 (4 practs in 4 years), and issues have escalated to MCAS, MCS, POTs, histamine/sals/phenol intolerances as protocols pushed didn’t respect symptoms…I now react to water and even salt (& sups). I understand the theories to treat the issues individually, yet have had no success with those I’ve worked with, as so many issues at once. Very tight corner to be in sadly.
@@gpello2316I am in same mode sooo tired
❤❤❤i am going to detox with asparagus, nettle, grean tea and ginger in capsules. To stirr and move out the old from the small intestines.Ok?
Love those herbs!
💎
Appreciate you! :-)
Why don’t you work with sibo patient's in the US?
the logistics are difficult - shipping, timezones, business insurance etc - we're working on it but it's taking time!
@@ByronHerbalist I really hope you reconsider. I haven’t had any luck here with sibo for 10 years. They just want to put a bandaid on the problem, rather than get to the root cause and treat it.
