      How was she discrediting the movie? How dare you belittle Robin Roberts, especially as black woman, for addressing something so crucial to the human spirit, as rape. She asked the questions that I, as a black women want answered. Why do you have to berate her as a black woman for asking about rape. So because he is black, he doesn't have to answer questions on rape? Nat Turners story was about injustice and rape is about injustice. How can we talk about systemic crisis and not be responsible to these grievous allegations of rape. Read the court documents before you are quick to defend him.

      She was trying to boost ratings for her show. So basically they were going to spend probably more than 30 mins on the case if he actually talked. Look at teh actual amount of time they spent discussing the movie (probably only 3 minutes). If he were to talk about the rape case, it wouldve taken 30 minutes. So when they realized he wasnt going to boost their ratings with the rape case talk, they cut it down to 3 minutes, meaning they didnt really care for the movie. BUt nate handled himself well.

Instead, he showed himself to be an egotistical power hungry hollywood type that only cares about himself, and his movie, and his money, and me, me, me, me. No one wants to work with a person like that, his movie just bombed, and no one is hiring him in Hollywood right now. He just ruined his career. Creepazoid.

  • @JustAThought155
    @JustAThought155 Před 7 lety +2

    The problem is based on the fact that Nate was invited to the show to discuss his new film but the issues discussed turned to an issue from the past. Here is the true sad aspect of this, or maybe the designed aspect of this--based on negative news creating an audience--I never heard of the film and the last time I witnessed a performance by Nate Parker was during the movie titled The Debaters.
    Therefore, a rape accusation, an actor "refuses to discuss" a rape charge from the past, and the soundbite telling this audience member how actor Nate Parker refuses to show remorse for a formerly taped victim who committed suicide, are the only forms of advertisement I have been introduced to regarding such a historic film, written, produced, directed, and starred in by this talented man.
    Sick. When will our nation simply honor those who accomplish much, forget the lines of skin-tones, and operate as one nation?
    Personally I like the interview, though some oppose it. However, I wish he simply said words like, 'Sadly the issue was raised many times and I have addressed it; I feel horrible for the family of this victim and the victim herself, but I must once again declare to all viewing this: I was not charged nor did I commit such a vile act; which causes me to discuss the same type of accusations which are revealed and exposed in the film.'

      She did not say she'd 'never heard of this story,' she said she had heard bits and pieces of it. She also indicated she'd seen the film and didn't want to give away the ending to viewers. As Nate said, this isn't about him. So... instead of focusing on the rape he was falsely accused of and wasn't found guilty of, how about you bother talking about the numerous rapes that did occur, with impunity, during the time period on which his movie is based?
    Focus on that. On the pain those women must have felt, knowing there was no court system to protect them. No newspapers they or their families could write about it in (unlike the many *smear pieces* written nowadays, but I digress...). Talk about the babies from those rapes that mothers had to decide their feelings about due to the manner by which those children were created.
    Talk about the fact that those same rapists claimed the moral high ground, much like the very people doing and upholding the oppressing do today. The very same ones using the Bible to support their cruelty and sadism, despite numerous people pointing out, Biblically, why that line of thinking is invalid (including, as Nat did in the clip, former slaves in their narratives, as well).
    Or dare say, would that be too much for the audience to stomach?

    What many people tend to forget is that while he was cleared of raping this woman, he was not exactly cleared in the civil case of harassing the woman after she complained. The University wound up paying a sizeable settlement because he and Jean Celestin were found to have stalked and harassed her. For that reason, he could have simply reiterated the empathy he attempted to convey in his Facebook post without admitting anything. This was his opportunity to present his reason why people on the fence about seeing this film should financially support his work. He blew the opportunity and came across as arrogant by referencing the 60 Minute interview three times, even when she pointed out not everyone saw it. He came across as angry which only raises more doubt in the minds of many who were already skeptical of his character.
