Lyrics
Mother said
Look now at that fire
You’re a lasty
One by one, I watch ‘em run
And then they pass me
All look back, say save me lost my light
Got my hip in the door
And my foot on the drive
All get set, taking my mark
Nothing to lose, I got nothing but heart
Take you to your knees
Left us in the dark
Feeling all this heat
Ooh, ignite our spark
To your knees
Left us in the dark
Feeling all this heat
Ooh, now I’m gon’ take ‘em back
I’m gon’ take ‘em back
Mother said, looking at the sky
Who will the last be?
One by one, I watched them die
I said don’t ask me
Laid on my back, this’ll be the night
Pin my head to the ground
Got my eye on the prize
Officer
I’m taking the fall
You woke him up fool
Beast is coming for y’all
Take you to your knees
Left us in the dark
Feeling all this heat
Ooh, ignite our spark
To your knees
Left us in the dark
Feeling all this heat
Ooh, now I’m gon’ take ‘em back
Take you to your knees
Left us in the dark
Feeling all this heat
Ooh, ignite our spark
To your knees
Left us in the dark
Feeling all this heat
Ooh, now I’m gon’ take ‘em back
I’m gon’ take ‘em back

I heard the song in "Wilderness" series. And wow... so powerful. I can't stop listening to this song
Same here......fits so perfectly to the series.
The Wildness has an amazing OST
Same😊
Same here

Heard this in a series, Wilderness, fell in love with it
Me too
WILDERNESS 🔥, nice little ode to disparate youth in there too, this made the show, especially at the ending, Kate Bush level performance 💯
Thank you wilderness for featuring Santigold. She's so underrated. 🔥 🤨
agree
Wow, this one is very beautiful! It sounds like Kate Bush or even Björk! I love it! Such a variety of styles in the album
My first listen: wtf is santi talkin bout
My thousandth listen: This track is for people who can win a race while still in last place without cheating.
Wow thank you this help a lot am very greatfull
I think its about a woman who has been run over by the world but then in the end she comes out on top and watches them all die ahead of her...she thinks she might be next, the beast is coming, but she might save them saying 'now I'm gonna take them back'.... meaning she might win and overcome and on top of it all, she might take back the very lives that had once trampled her. Not sure.
maybe....And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.'
A song about resilience… out lasting any obstacle …
Lasty
This hit me where it hurts and I love it.
Heard this yesterday in a new short season called Wilderness! The first time was when Olivia played by Jenna Coleman was with her husband Will and they went to the Grand Canyon I think it was!? But um anyways, the instrumental started to play, and although simple, the sound was absolutely fine and wonderful, then came Santigold's voice, like when she started to sing with the instrumental, I ascended to the higher dimensions 🌌😇 She actually has some phenomenal instrumentals and a Heavenly voice! 🎶🥰
Oh and um I heard the song being played in the ending credits of episode 1 and the ending credits of episode 2 as well. Is the song played at the end of every episode or not?!?!
And thanks to Pandora for playing this on SOHN radio 1/3/22 high chance this was the 1st song I thumbs up in 2023.
The ending scene in wilderness. The sudden change of her facial expression was frightening.
Love this sound!
Wilderness brought me here!❤
I guess we watch it almost at the same time! :D
Binged it in one day and then watched it all over a second time with my boyfriend. We both tripped out on how Olivia Coleman got him back. That's what every cheating malignant narcissist deserves.😂
Here because of Wilderness on Amazon Prime. GREAT series & GREAT soundtrack! ❤️✨
Thank you Santigold, I love this song. I've been playing it on repeat for weeks!
I love this woman. A true singer!!!
Anyone after watching Wilderness?

Wow!
Them vocals 😍😍😍
Wow ❤️❤️❤️
🔥🔥🔥 you never miss
Wilderness brought me here
Hey u good ones out there... never quit please?
🔥🔥🔥
Who is from "Wilderness" ?
Very powerful song
Speaks straight to my soul
The voice is so similar to Kate Bush or Bjork
Intro to this sounds almost exactly like The Frail by Nine Inch Nails
Oui c'est exactement ce que je pensais aussi ! ! !
Who is here after "Wilderness"...???
Wilderness brought me here...
Sound like the riff is lifted from NIN LA Mer
Is ‘lasty’ a word? I don’t understand what it means.
I am also trying to ignore the lyrics but I find that very challenging because somehow I always expect them to make sense. 😂
Love it reminds me of Kate Bush
Does anyone know what's the exact genre of this song? The background vocals are incredible but I don't know how they are called.
Lyrics please 🥲🥲
The song and performance are amazing, the lyrics not so much. The person who wrote those lines should stop snorting.
Yeah this is why I prefer instrumental over lyrics here, but Santigold is a good singer though, so I'm not sure as to what the fuck she was even trying to say here lolol 💀💀😂😂
@@Clarkkent163 I totally agree.
I also found it quite strange. But she makes a lot of comparisons and illustrations. Lots of metaphors.
But I looked it up and found this about the lyrics...
With her own position secure, she can bring us along as the setting grows darker, drawing on strength in numbers. The piano-tethered dirge "The Lasty" encapsulates the devastation of watching videos of cops killing unarmed Black people and reframes it as a necessary warning of protest, turning sorrow into strength ("Officer / I'm taking the fall / You woke him up fool / Beast is coming for y'all").
