Very pretty; I'm' all for DIY, and you did a great job. However, if you calculate the amount of $ you spent on 4 cans of spray @ $5-7 per can, vs. a black lamp shade from Walmart, for example, I'm not sure you came out ahead. But then again, it doesn't matter when you get the satisfaction of having done it yourself. 😎
Hi Charles, You are correct about the cost of the cans of spray paint. This diy was done at least 5 years ago, and then, black accessories, including lamp shades, were not popular . When you can't purchase what you want, you create your own. Now, you can definitely go out and purchase the lamp shades and in a variety of shapes and sizes. Like you said, it was the satisfaction that I was able to get the look that I desired, and it was a Juani Original
I am making over my sister bedroom and her lamps are great but the shades are the wrong color this would work great I would have not thought to paint them. Thanks for sharing ❤️
I'm so happy I just found you!!!! I did sub you....OF COURSE! ;) I have a question if you can help me maybe? I have Several lamps that are all the same and match my curtains BUT I am changing my curtains so NONE of the shades will work when I do this. My shades are red and have like this embroidery type design all over them.....Can I still paint them? If I can't I'll have to remove all fabric and recover them. I like the way yours turned out a LOT and I LOVE the Finials you chose....those lamps are so glam and so pretty.
Hello, First bbn off Thanks for joining my family. I appreciate you subscribing. Is the embroidery like a piping that can be removed or is the fabric embroidered all over? What I do is. use a tinted primer on the shades first then spray paint. Then go over with the sponge brush to get the velvet leather effect. I get so many compliments on the lamps. The finals were from Hobby lobby. Let me know how they turn out. I would love to see a pic to share on my channel
Hey Ruth, I havent had an issue. I was concerned about how the paint would react to the heat from the bulb. Nothing has happened. Thanks for watching lady. Xoxo Juani
Question- When I got married decades ago, I wanted a red hat for my “going-away” outfit. I was too cheap to pay department store prices but found a cute stray hat for a couple of bucks and spray painted it. The hat was adorable, but the spray paint eventually popped-off…. Have you had that problem with your lamp shades? Would you recommend polyurethane? Thanks for the feedback.
Not at all, My lamp shade are still in great condition. I didn't se any polyurethane on them to seal the paint. I haven't had any problems with them at all.
Thank you for making this video. The camera work and your detailed narrative were fantastic. Appreciate your telling us the price breakdown. The texture using that brush too was also a great idea. Beautiful with those crystal lamp bases. Thanks much.
Actually, I was thinking the same thing until I just looked it up online how much a black lampshade cost. What she should’ve done is used fabric paint. It would’ve covered it more evenly and would’ve looked a little better.
They actually look very nice and everyone who has seen them liked them. That's your opinion and just like butts, everyone has one. You should have kept yours. ijs😉
The texture makes the shades look like you made them out of suede! Gorgeous 👍
I love them because I had been wondering how I could paint them. I will definitely be using some spray paint. I love spray paint. Thanks for sharing
Did you have to let them sit outside for a long time to get the smell out of the spray paint? How did they look with the bulbs on night?
Love the shape of the shades.
Thanks, for a cost saving idea. Lamps look elegant.
It's interesting how you made this. I was looking for an idea for the living room area. Thank you for sharing this lamp shade diy.

They came out so chic, tfs.💞
I will do this with a ‘rustic’ bronze color. . . . a lamp/shade in my son’s room. Thank you.
The lamps are beautiful.
Using 'primer' paint as a base coat saves paint.
Beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing!

Your lamps are beautiful.Great job.!
Did you do anything with the inside of the shade to keep paint from getting on it? It looks perfect & I am wondering if the spray went inside.
I was curious about that too

Hello can you tell me the brand of paint do you use
I wonder how sueded paint would work?
Absolutely beautiful. So inspired by your updated classic style.
Thank you for making this video. The camera work and your detailed narrative were fantastic. Appreciate your telling us the price breakdown. The texture using that brush too was also a great idea. Beautiful with those crystal lamp bases. Thanks much.
I don't understand black lampshade that don't show light through. What's the point?
Nice, Juani!
Nice work!
Great project idea...tfs
Why didn't you use primer spray paint?
Nice!
u are always so gud i love yr videos
Yessssss YESSSSSS AND YESSSSSS GOOD JOB
XOXO VEE
Love the shape of the shades and the new color
How much did you spend on paint?
I spent around 3.00 for 3 cans of paint. from Walmart had some paint on hand.
Great face lift to the shade. Thxs for sharing
WOW those shades came out so beautiful and elegant
Did you say four cans?
Yep,
Ok now Ms. Juani I will be over to take those lamps off your hands they look great you did that thang.
Lol, and Mr. B will probably give you some of my dishes also.
It’s seems like you could buy a new lampshade that was already black for the price of all the spray cans you had to use
Actually, I was thinking the same thing until I just looked it up online how much a black lampshade cost. What she should’ve done is used fabric paint. It would’ve covered it more evenly and would’ve looked a little better.
I'm sorry yall ......the patchiness is terrible
she said 4 cans of spray paint. for 2 lamp shades. wow.. I've painted an 8 drawer dresser and mirror with just at 3 cans.
Thank you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 The blotchiness is just not it and idk if these people praising this are blind or don’t have HD.
You didn’t protect the inside of the shade
why didn't you spray the inside first
Oh dear lord
Can also cover with fabric. Beautiful.
you could've used chalk paint; it would've been less $$
You are not spraying the paint correctly. Google it.
It's done now, and has been done for a year now. It still came out great regardless.
4 cans? Sheesh
Don't forget to put cardboard behind to protect the environment
Very nice
It needs help... 9 1\2 . it needs a nother coat.jeff
They look like moleskin now, very nice, although why you would want to black out something that is designed to add light to your house is beyond me!
not my cup of tea
These look horrible and blotchy when dry
They actually look very nice and everyone who has seen them liked them. That's your opinion and just like butts, everyone has one. You should have kept yours. ijs😉
