  • Join Trail magazine for a video guide to one of the Lake District's greatest mountain walks.
This route starts in the historic Wasdale valley, climbs to the rocky summit of Great Gable, then drops down to Sty Head Pass, before cutting across the mountain's famous Climbers' Traverse path.
This has to be one of the most action-packed trails in the Lake District, getting you up close and personal with iconic rock formations such as Napes Needle and Sphinx Rock. Great Gable and the peaks around Wasdale are widely known as the birthplace of British rock-climbing, and this walk tiptoes directly beneath the cliffs and crags that were home to many of those pioneering early ascents.
