    I absolutely love the PSP. It makes me feel good seeing all of the comments praising the device still. It's also super easy to modify. I have mine loaded up with a bunch of GBA games and that's mostly what I've been playing now. Even though it is an older handheld, the system and the games on it have held up extremely well over the years.

    PSP is probably one of my favorite portable consoles of all time, but honestly I think the Vita is a little better because not only does it have a decent library of it's own, the backwards compatibility for PSP games fixes almost all of the PSP's problems by reducing load times drastically and allowing you to use the right stick however you want.
    Here are some of my personal favorite PSP games:
    Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles
    Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?! (shoutouts to the slightly worse sequel)
    Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days (also the first game which I really suck at)
    Half Minute Hero
    Pursuit Force
    Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
    Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection
    Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars
    Split/Second Velocity
    Burnout Legends
    Valkyria Chronicles 2
    Daxter
    Buzz!: Master Quiz
    Z.H.P
    Rockband Unplugged

    The PSP is one of the most versatile handhelds ever created, and it still holds up even today.
    I mean a PSP with Custom Firm Ware has it all:
    - emulation of light N64 games and below
    - native support for PS1 eboots and PSP game ISOs
    - UMD support for physical PSP games
    - music and video players
    - themes
    - up to 128 gb of storage
    - homebrew
    - 100% portable with no compromises
    - can use dualshock3 controllers
    The Vita is superior in terms of hardware, but due to the cfw of the PSP, it is still much more versatile. PSPs can be obtained around the 40-70$ range, and no phone around that price has the same gaming capabilities
    I'n waiting until the Vita has a permanent hack so that it can surpass this amazing system.

      Don DL - I was contempt with Mega Man X: Maverick on the PSP without feeling like I needed MMX2: Maverick and MMX3: Maverick, although a release of those would have been cool.
      However, I was and still am disappointed that Capcom did not continue with the Mega Man: Powered Up series. Mega Man 3 from the original series is one of my all time favorite games,, so a remake in the Powered Up series was perfect for me. I loved the art style and was anticipating seeing one of my favorite games remade in those graphics.

      @NijiDash Před 7 lety +5

      Okay, I genuinely didn't know that. But the reason I bring it up is because some people like to choose what games they want to play themselves, not having to rely on selections they might largely not care about.

    PSP is probably one of the best handheld emulation console of all time. It's so sad that you can hacked it to play a retail games since it's early life. Now PS vita seems to facing the same fate as PSP but much worse.
    I just came back to Thailand. Strangely the price of the pre-owned PSP doesn't really drop much more than a years ago contrasting the price drop of pre-owned PS vita which about the same price as PSP at the moment.

    I remember my PSP, I loved it. It's such a shame that the screen stared to die until one day it was just unusable. I did the battery hack so I could put custom firmware on it and run all kinds of third-party stuff. I also remember copying UMDs on to my computer's hard drive, then transferring them on to the memory card so I could play games without needing a disc in the drive so it would load quicker. Although I didn't run much in the way of emulators, I did have something that would convert PSX games to PSP so I could play those on it.

    And lots of love for the Michelle Chang theme from T2! And T2 is playable on PSP, I luved it at the time. And also lots of love for the FFVIICC and C:SOTN footage.
    BTW, the hacking thing eliminates the load times problem -- just launch the games from the Memory Stick.

    "LGBT model" LOL! I love the PSP, and it's probably my favorite handheld ever. I love the softmod capabilities, and use them frequently, but the system itself is great, sitting somewhere comfortably in between the PS1 and PS2 in terms of power, and being able to provide a home console-level experience on the go. One great thing about soft modding the PSP is that, for collectors like myself, we can use the ISO_TOOL application to rip the UMD games to the memory card. These days, you can buy converter hardware that is basically an empty shell Memory Stick Pro Duo, with 2 slots for microSD cards, and can store 128GB or 256GB on the combined cards, and rip loads of PSP games to the memory stick. This cuts down on the load times, saves the UMD drive so it will last a lot longer, and means you can carry a large portion of your PSP library with you. The nice thing is, soft mods are easy these days, and you no longer need the Pandora Battery that used to be required.

      @MrDmoney156 Před 7 lety +4

      Yeah the uniqueness of the games on the system is one but the media part like an internet browser, music, video player (though with Dreamcast you need homebrew software to use that feature) Photo viewer (same thing) but also the four face buttons, one analog, and only left and right shoulder buttons (triggers) reminds me ALOT of the Sega Dreamcast for that reason alone and the online functionality too at that.

    Yep, its a very nice system, and pretty well built too. Mine survived a couple meter-high drops onto asphalt without a scratch.
    Its easily one of my favorite handhelds, specifically because of how easy soft-modding is and how much potential unlocks. Just being able to natively play most PS1 games and play backups of your UMD games makes it worthwhile. I almost wanted it more for playing PS classics than the system's own games. A PSP and PS Store downloads are probably the cheapest way of playing classic Square RPGs like Legend of Mana or Threads of Fate.
    Emulating the system on PC is also pretty easy for the same reason, its easy to backup and play the games straight from your PSN account, or the UMD.

      Although I haven't done it, I would like to soon, you can now hack both the PSP and I am sure the Vita and PS TV completely to play every single PSP game digitally even if they never had a digital release. I would rather use a Vita though coz more power, nicer controls, and actually allows more configuration coz of the front and back touch interfacing. Also just a nicer screen and I am sure faster processing. PSP compatibility is full on that too.

    Always loved the PSP's great multimedia capabilities. If only Sony would not have been so dumb of using the UMDs.... Instead they should have used HiMDs. They were better protected and much more sturdy. And you could have also used the PSP to play your minidscs. The DAC of the PSP was also VERY good and the soundquality was amazing. Especially when you played PCM Wave files from the Memorystick. I also wished the videoquality of the external PSP camera would have been better and would have been able to record at higher resolutions instead of the native resolution of the PSP screen. The Game-sharing feature was also great. You could could play some games in multiplayer mode with a friend who did not have the game. The PSP would simply transmit the needed gamefiles to your friends PSP (the engine and the game level) so you and your friend could play a multiplayer session together. Not all games supported it but some did. Like Sega Rally.

    I loved my PSP as well as my DS and as I have stated before that was the best handheld generation so many great games it really was a repeat of the SNES vs Genesis and guess what it was the consumer won!

    For me one of the best games on the PSP was it's release of Gran Turismo, in fact I have the GT Special Edition PSP 3000, which looks identical to the standard black one except with a GT logo underneath the face buttons. While not the best release of Gran Turismo, for a handheld it was excellent. It has a very wide selection of cars and most or if not all of the classic tracks from Gran Turismo 3 & 4. It's one of the only games I like which uses the analog nub, it feels just right in GT for whatever reason unlike a lot of other games which don't feel that great with the analog nub.

    As a person who owned both at one point, I've gotta say that Harvest Moon was one of the major reasons I enjoyed the DS for as long as I did. I really enjoyed the PSP also, possibly even more overall, but I think the library of games was also a major reason why the DS beat out the PSP.
    Great video!

    One game that's a PS2 and PSP exclusive (unless you get a PCSX2 emulator) is Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. The audio may not be as good quality as it could be, but it is an interesting prequel to a prequel to a prequel to a prequel. The PSP is less than $20!

  • @kefka989
    @kefka989 Před 7 lety

    Gotta say I love the system for all the crazy ass JRPG's and other great exclusives. My only issue is the hardware longevity. My current one refuses to charge anymore and the frame has loosened up to the point that hitting some buttons also activates buttons like the pause or the home button. I wish there was a way to mount the drive so I could run it on my computer with the disks I have, rather then simply emulating them. I dont want to run bootlegs, I own the games, I just want a way to play them without dealing with my PSP falling apart!

    I won mine for sales working for sky lol wanted the only white one and got it other three were black. Very nice machine and had and have plans of getting games but, other machines got in way. Plus knew it was easily hacked to hell and back so, just have it. Still pretty mint. Got midway classics or something with it bought gta liberty stories and then it just sat for what 13 years or so lol...I want the metal slug collection on it probably lots of good games like you say. Just not a massive handheld fan I do like them, but I rarely actually use them.

    psp loading time was long only if you used umd without extracting game data on console itself, most of the game that I've played (and I play a lot of games) allow you to install game data on psp which would shorten loading time in 10 times, while some of the games offer you to do that while you are creating save data on the very first launch of the game. That's why I don't think that this "problem" should be on the list.

      I also think with a lot of console(s) doing not selling well had to a lot with people not buying the consoles because of the marketing and lack of knowledge of the console(s). I never knew about the Saturn, Game Gear, Lynx, Dreamcast, Neogeo pocket, and a lot of other consoles in the 90s and I was born in '92. I mostly gamed on Nintendo consoles because my parents bought me a N64, a game boy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy advance, GameBoy Advance SP GameCube, Will, & WiiU, DS, DS Lite, DS Lite XL., 3ds XL, New 3ds XL. I did get a Xbox, a Xbox 360, which I switched to a PS3 because of the red ring of death, PSP, PS Vita, PS4, PS TV, love that for the fact that you can use PS4 controllers. I don't have an Xbox One because I don't really care about it.
