- #longlivechainsaw - This was the first time we focused specifically on a raw video at a World Cup DH race weekend and Steel City Media captured the bike abuse. We hadn't even decided to call it Vital RAW yet. This raw compilation is from the Hafjell, Norway, World Cup in September 2013. 26 inch wheels on small, noisy bikes with the likes of Rat Boy, Steve Peat, Stevie Smith, Sam Hill and tons of downhill smashers who are still breaking rocks! Gee Atherton had the #1 plate, Greg Minnaar was current World Champ. Aside from wheel sizes and geometry changes, downhill hasn't changed much as the best form of mountain bike racing on the planet!

I'm pretty sure, that this Raw was from 2013. Here's your own TBT on that... www.vitalmtb.com/features/TBT-Vital-RAW-Hafjell-World-Cup-2013,1480
@@raikojaeski8061 yep, noted by Phil. everything we could edit was tweaked (not video graphic though) #facepalm
I'm pretty sure this is from 2013. In 2012 they didn't have the wooden bridge (1:51) on the course in , and Sam hill was still on Specialized. I broke my hand on my 3rd practice run in 2012.
F! YOU'RE RIGHT. IT'S 2013
Vital MTB if had I not been there I don’t think I would have noticed. 2013 feels like an eternity ago!
@@SkillsWithPhil doesn't it though? thanks for the heads up!
Damn, that sound is so raw, I just got salmonella.
That crash that cut short before Steve Smith shows up! What!!!!
Crazy how much louder the bikes were back then with all the rattling!! They are so stealthy now
Gotta love flashbacks 👍🏻 Any chance to go back in time even further? Say, early 2000s or late 90's? The days of Nicolas Vouilloz, Eric Carter, Myles Rockwell, Missy Giovi...that'd be awesome
hey wally, we have a bunch in our video vault section www.vitalmtb.com/videovault
I was at this race. Stevie absolutely bossed it. #longlivechainsaw
Lourddd !!! ça fait plaisir de voir un raw de cette course!!
I've got to say some of those kits already look dated, but Stevie must have been ahead of the game because his kit just hasn't aged. #longlivechainsaw
Who crashed 0:53?
0:53 WTFFFF IS this crash has a link with the hachtag #longlivechainsaw ?
steve smith rode for devinci he is the rider after the crash 0:55
@@ewm416 thx
Guys, we gotta get a vital raw of the decade!
the position of shooting video in 2013 is better than now, the speed of the bicycle is more clearly seen as seen directly on the track, and the ferocity of rockgarden is also the malignancy of the obstacle course more clearly visible, we are like seeing directly near the track. Nowadays the camera is too far from the track so that the speed of the bicycle looks slow and the slope and steep trajectory does not look as real as the original.
Dang those bikes are loud
I think this is 2013!
And People still think 26er is slow
People don`t think too much. They just repeat information from marketologs)
26 actually looks crazy to me now
Mmmmmm, noooiceee!!!!
Santa Cruz cycles hasn’t change anything about their downhill bike. It reminds me of Henry Ford when he made his first car for years Ford kept on making the same model and it was never updated until he passed away. So I think it’s time for Santa Cruz to update the frame design.
🗣️yyyeeeaa guy's good to lucky yet here tim guy's of the enfrentamint desisibs master's team's bike's of the #MTB seris of the #Montainbiking 🤘😀🤘🍀🤙 #longlivechainsaw 🗣️💯🍀🚴💯
OMG look at those little wheels! Lol! Just goes to show it’s the rider not the bike! That’s why I love my 29’er! Lol
29"er is LOL)))
hard stuff :)
26" ers looks so cool! Very good proportion beetwen bike and rider. Modern 29" DH bikes looks horrible, especially if rider under 175 sm.......
Who cares what they look like, 27.5 and 29 are faster and nicer to ride (in my opinion the bigger wheels look better too but who cares)
When 26 ain't dead at that time.
Como sonaba la cadena en esos años
Carnage.
What do the whistles mean in these videos? Is it an alert to other riders?

🗣️yyyeeeaa guy's good Downhill bike's guy's #moutainbike nice #moutainbiking 🤘😀🤘🆙🚴💯
Lol those tiny wheels!
Compared to today’s bikes these older ones are noisy. Chainslapcity
Bikes were noicy back then...
Where bikes back them way shorter. Riders look on the bike more than in the bike if that makes sense.
They were a bit shorter, yeah. Bikes have gotten longer wheelbases to accommodate for the larger wheel sizes, plus they feel more stable at speed that way. They have also gotten taller because of larger wheels. You might also notice the narrower handlebars in this video.
Everyone had bad fitting clothes . And it’s only a few years ago ...... shocking
26ers look so hard to ride now. Harsh. They are like bmx bikes.
all in your mind. 29 against 26 it`s just few second advantage at the end of 3-4 minute DH track. Nothing special.
