    Hey there, always find the vidoes informative. How often do you need to add the magseal fluid to the main seal you were showing us? Can you add fluid or do you recommend a complete breakdown and starting fresh? All my fishing is freshwater smallmouth fishing, so most of my water containment comes from rainwater. Is there a brand of oil you recommend? Thanks for your time and look forward to future videos.

    Living in Japan, I have a couple of small Stellas a bit long in the tooth ... maybe 15 - 20 years old, and though still with tight tolerances, they are not sounding as nearly smooth as when new, and Shimano doesn't service anything over 5 years old. Here it is 2020, and I am looking for a 1000 series trout, panfish, light dock fishing reel .. and the Daiwa Caldia seems to be 'the one'. Maybe a third of the price of the stellas when I bought them, but the technology just keeps improving by leaps and bounds. Two caveats are that the spare Daiwa spools are more expensive, and Daiwa seems to have that same 5 year plan. I wish these two innovating companies made something that could be serviced and bearings replaced for life.

      There is a rubber lipped seal under the rotor's retaining nut. Daiwa is 1000% incorrect in their marketing of every single mag sealed spinning reel. There they offer zero reels with a mag sealed main shaft. Though they do offer traditional seals there. Which prove effective

      Ok, so the seal at the main shaft is similar to what Van Staal uses.
      What is so G-D expensive about using quad seals at every entry point like the Van Staals? Part of the reason why long-cast reels like (to mention another brand) the Shimano Ultegra haven’t really taken off in the New England surf zone is because they’re not sealed and do NOT like getting wet. Imagine a fully sealed Shimano Ultegra 5500 or 14000? They would sell out instantly.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  Před 5 lety +1

      @@Onewayto2024 The main shaft seal is a light rubber single lipped seal....not in the same league as vs's quad seal....but effective since the rest of the reel is water tight. There is an ultregra that is fully sealed (or at least sealed at all points but a bit wimpy at the ar clutch...it's called the Spinfisher VI lc.....Right now it's the most rugged long cast reel.....Brass main gear, Rock solid. Slow oscillation. The tsunami shield is a fully sealed reel. OR whatever the OEM overseas is. Kat king i believe and balzer? Very capable reel at a 100$

    Will magoil stop sand or fine sand suspended in water from entering the reel? I'd hate to spend a grand + on a Saltiga, Expedition, or Dog Fight only to ruin it wet suiting. Does self service void the manufacturer's warranty?

    • @IdanVLRF
      @IdanVLRF Před 5 lety

      Jonathan Woodman Probably late but these are not waterproof reels,You shouldn’t dip them in saltwater just because they can take a wave. As for sand etc. It does a good job keeping the internals clean but you should still regrease and oil it externally.
      It is recommended to service once every 2-3 years to change worn out bearings,mag seal, internal re-oiling etc.

      Best way is to use a thin plastic rod (like a cheap paintbrush). Put two screws in.. Slightly tighten them... And stick the paint brush in the vacant screw hole... Use it like a joystick... Pop the rotor on and finger tighten the retaining nut and check for clearance... Repeat until clean rotation.... That's how I do it.. I've seen first hand 4 brand new reels that weren't aligned properly... Just fixed a 8k saltist for a dealer

Also, i accidently used daiwa oil on my 16 certate line roller ball bearing which i believe is also magsealed, one drop in between the slit between the line roller and the rotor. So do i have to reseal the bearings? Also, from my understanding, the ferro fluid doesn't lubricate the bering itself, so what do you use to lubricate the bearing? I know it's a lot of questions, cheers in advance.

      I've used several of these types of slide on fasteners, the first being teh corkscrew swivels that have been used in heavy saltwater rigs for so long.
      I've found that all of them have the same limitations. The first is that not all lures can be maneuvered to get on there properly depending on the space available in the clip's bends vs the space needed around the attachment point of the lure. Secondly, you will run into many lures that will go on the clip but end up jamming against the mechanism which changes or restricts its ability to move freely.

    Genuine question. Unlike you I'm not a DIY expert. I have a couple of European Daiwa mag sealed reels now discontinued (Cast izm 25 QDA).
    I think it's just the main body that is sealed. If I ignore the Magseal will it damage the reel. I mean I only use it in freshwater so I'm not too worried about ingress.
    Or will it damage the reel in general if I ignore the magseal. Hear no evil. See no evil. 😂

    I wouldn’t trust any mag seal oil not supplied by the company that sells ferro fluid to Daiwa! Who are they? Does Daiwa manufacture their own mag seal oil? Daiwa is very greedy $$$ no doubt! : ( 😡
