As he said in the full video of this performance, this song is about soul death in suburbia. It reminds me of a song written back in the mid-1980s called "41 Lawnmowers", written by Billy Crockett, who was/is primarily a Christian artist, although he's really more of a folk artist like JoCo, and his guitar skills are wonderful. He too writes music that is on the complex side in terms of music theory; not really your run-of-the-mill I-IV-V-I chord structure. JoCo in many ways reminds me of a younger, more cynical version of Billy.
Most unsung legend, deserves more fame.
Been a fan of JonCol for over a decade
this dude's body of work is amazing...., how the world got Weird Al and not This guy I'll never know... , your Amazing Jon, Thank You!
I fell for a man while he was playing in a Jonathan Coulton coverband. The band's over, but we still enjoy Coulton every weekend.
Whenever I’m down, I just pop in a JoCo CD and turn it up and drive. Always brings me a smile 😊
