  • The whole story since lap 43/77 of the 1998 Hungarian Grand Prix, when Michael Schumacher got stuck behind David Coulthard, being one second per lap faster than the Scottish, and his rival for the title as leader of the race …until Scuderia Ferrari Technical Director Ross Brawn came up with an idea. 💡

5:05 Ross did not change from 2 to 3 stops when Schumacher was already leading. He called the strategy before Schumacher came in. They fueled him less so he can jump the McLarens because of shorter pit stop time and then when we has past them he had to push to make enough of a gap. They could not change from 2 to 3 at 5:05 because there it was already clear he was on 3 stop because he had not enough fuel to finish with 2 stops. He had to get a big enough gap to be in front after his 3rd stop. This strategy was a masterclass but also the 15 hotlaps from Schumacher were a masterclass. Especially the first laps after his 2nd stop when he had more fuel in the tank as the McLaren who had a nearly empty tank shortly before their 2nd stop.

Schumi ist einfach der beste Formel 1 Fahrer den die Welt je gesehen hat 😍.

5:05 The decision for a third stop was obviously made before the second stop already, because back then refuelling was part of the strategy. The reason why Schumacher could overtake both McLarens with his second stop was that he was taking less fuel and could therefor stop for a shorter time.

habe alle Rennen mit Schumi gesehen und Mercedes entlässt ihn Jahre später um die leibhaftige Unsportlichkeit zu holen. Er war einfach supergenial in allen Belangen, motivierend.

Yep, I'm not sure where the rosy-eyed nostalgia for this era comes from (I assume the V10 sounds). I vividly remember a lot of it being an absolute snorefest. But at least it sounded good, I suppose.

@@INFEDnoX It was exciting championships only due to MS. Underdog car from 1992 to 2000. Without him, williams laught to the championship in 1994/1995. 1996 would have been a 1992/1993 williams showcase without any challenge. 1997/1998 would have had no title challenges. 1999 was close anyhow, 2000 would of been a mclaren easy win. Should be thankful MS made the 90s into title race after title race. Lewis on the other hand. Been a snore fest from 2013 to 2020. One year from seb. The only two decent years in f1 last decade was 2010 and 2012. That's it. Even the 2000s had better seasons. 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 but without MS it would have been 6 years William straight with 3 years mclaren.

Comparatively much more exciting than now. Schumacher help build Ferraris dominance and had many master strokes. He never had a warm chair like Hamilton. The Britts are still salty. The German will always be the GOAT!
