    Heimerdinger is right: Hextech is dangerous and is being rushed.
    Jayce is right: Humans don't live for centuries and just waiting for things to get better doesn't solve anything.
    I side more with Jayce in this instance; Heimerdinger isn't evil, but he is inefficient and out of touch. He's also quick to tell people what not to do, but doesn't have any plans of solutions himself.
    Granted, Jayce is acting emotionally. His friend, someone like a brother to him, is dying, and Heimerdinger wants to destroy the one thing that might be able to help him. It's a hard situation all around.
    The Vi and Jinx reunion was very well done. Credit to Vi, she said and did all the right things, reassuring Jinx and trying to de-escalate the situation. Unfortunately, as they so often do around Jinx, things went wrong.

    • @bluewolf6323
      @bluewolf6323 Před 2 lety +9

      Jayce may be emotional but he has evidence and points and brings them up. He exclaims what being under Heimerdinger's rule is doing to Piltover/Zaun, but Heimerdinger still thinks this is only about the Hextech. When Jayce brought up the damage, Heimerdinger ignores the damage and ruins and goes for saying that 'Hextech needs more time, more safe guards' I don't side with either because both are in the wrong but have good traits, but Heimerdinger needs a wake up call and sadly, that's the best case scenario. Heimerdinger won't be kicked out of the streets or his lineage as the Father of Piltover won't be damaged, he's retiring, meaning he can still live in that big mansion he calls home and won't be part of the council. Heimerdinger may have been there for Jayce, but there is only so much you can notice before you realize that your friend is doing more damage than on the surface, even if they're right.
      Sorry about the word vomit but I do love having conversations about Heimerdinger's character writing because it's a flawed beauty.

    • @danielwhyatt3278
      @danielwhyatt3278 Před 2 lety +3

      You are totally on point there. It is wise to be safe when it comes to new technology, but, when you consider the lifespan of a human versus what Heimerdinger is, humans really can’t afford to wait otherwise we’ll all be dead before anything good happens or any good can be done. Especially when risks breed a lot of innovation in the first place.

    To build on hiemerdinger noticing something changed viktor probably has to do with the fact that all yordles are inherently magical, some more than others etc. Think of them as gnomes, they magical beings of sorts, and at best are avoided in runeterra because of their reputation to cause trouble although that has been more or less retconned in Arcane (for the better in my opinion.) So hiemer got the spidey sense.

      Official Yordle lore seems to be kinda wonky at this point - they're also said to not be perceived as fuzzy little things (but as humans for example) by normal people, but they obviously are in Arcane (and other cinematics). Not sure if they just retconned that, since that would lead to other inconsistencies like basically invalidating Poppy's lore

    • @MrIchi27
      @MrIchi27 Před 2 lety +3

      @@thescholarsarchives5002 all yordles have inherent transformation or a illusion magic, not sure one of the two they have, to make them look like humans some dont use it cuz they dont care, as in the cinematic that graves imprison some of them, so Demacia only thinks Poppy is a really short person otherwise she would already be kicked out of demacia, we see them normal so we know who is a yordle.

    Heimendinger doesn't actually know what will happen with the Hextech. He's seem something similar, but he doesn't know for certain. Not saying that he's wrong about the new development of the Hextech, but if they listened to him back in episode 2 there would be no Hextech development which has made Piltover world-renowned and successful over recent years.

    Heimerdinger being a yordle, he's kind of in touch with the spirit world and the various energies of nature, though he's much more scientifically minded than most of his kind. He can probably feel a subtle change in Viktor's essence, more or less, since his blood merged with the hex core and he laid his hand on it at least once.
    Heimer's outlook definitely doesn't help things for others, for sure. He's 310+ years old by this point but that's not even old for Yordle standards. Technically there probably isn't an 'old' for Yordles since they're essentially fae creatures, ageless spirits more than anything. There are some Yordles that are over a thousand years old comparatively, even at 300 years Heimer is actually still relatively young. The timeline might be different for Arcane though, since it is explicitly a different canon than the main timeline, but that should still hold true for the most part.

I think its more heartbreaking to imagine the split second after the smoke clears and she is left to imagine if she really did reunite with her sister and then she got taken away or was it just all a convenient delusion she is telling herself. I this idea is reinforced with the line "are you real?". Jinx has prob "seen" or "heard" vi many times over the years when she wasn't actually there. Big sadge

    Singed (The scientist that works for Silco) only worked with Silco because Silco allowed him to do what he wanted regarding pushing the boundaries of Science. He mentions in one episode that he stopped working with Heimendinger because Heimendinger's idea of science would only go as far as his morals would allow. There is a great video here on CZcams that described Singed in more detail stating that the difference between him and scientists like Jayce and Heimendinger is his approach to death. Where other scientists accept it as a natural process of life, Singed seeks to conquer and redefine death itself, by any means necessary... That's why though Rio is death by our standards, she is still alive by Singed's standards because her mutation is still thriving. I believe he mentioned having a daughter once, which implied that he failed to save her, which could possibly explain his obsession with conquering the natural process of death. Singed isn't concerned with right and wrong. He is amoral. He only cares about scientific progress, no matter the methods.

    Am glad the appreciation and warmth for Viktor is there more. Wouldn't feel too bad though, its actually a pretty common phenomena where people subconsciously tend to attribute higher moral and ethical character to conventionally attractive characters, and less to people less conventionally attractive. Knowing how deliberate and well thought out Arcane is, they also probably done this on purpose, by introducing Viktor and Jayce the way they did. Viktor does have "villain vibes" because he is pale, skinny, frail, gaunt, has unkempt hair, has a obvious "foreign" accent, and was standing beside square jawed, cute, pretty boy Jayce, with his shoulders, smile, twinkle in the eye, yadda yadda. It sets up an interesting dynamic. Show also likes to make you reconsider your initial gut assumptions.
    I mean I think Viktor and Jayce are both attractive, to be clear, but "conventional beauty standards and coding etc". Consider how they are viewed by others as well, not in a competitive way, but just ideas and themes around value, celebrity, how different people treat them, their backgrounds, their similarities (science bros) and their differences (poor and wealthy), even consider the the attractions they experience, Sky vs Mel, and of course their low points where they both consider taking their lives. The attraction thing though is kind of messed up, not just for people generally considered not conventionally attractive, but also conventionally attractive people as well, because it undermines any actual sincere ethical and moral strengths you might have worked on, because people are too focused elsewhere, and they also can't distinguish your strengths, if you may be standing next to someone about as attractive, but much more ethically or morally flawed.
    Heimerdinger and Jayce conflict is pretty tricky grey area too. Like others have pointed out and discussed, this isn't the first time Heimerdinger was apprehensive and outright ordered Jayce to stop his progress/technology, and ordered the research to be destroyed, and in that instance, when Jayce and Viktor actually showed results... Heimerdinger ended up going with it, and we ended up with Hex Tech. I'll be blunt, I think it was really rude how they kicked Heimerdinger out, but Heimerdinger isn't a flawless or shiny beacon of morality. He has an "Authoritarian parenting" style, when an Authoritative style would probably work wonders. To elaborate, his communication is very one sided, and he just makes demands. "Don't do this. You don't understand the danger. I will see this destroyed" etc he doesn't actually try to explain to them, the worries and issues he sees, or his past experiences, or elaborate or explain or.. he just uses his age and authority. Maybe if he was more open and communicative with his concerns and why as a scientist he thinks such technology could be abused, appropriated in specific, detailed ways. Then all three could work on safeguards and safety measures, and putting as much emphasis on risk management as well as speed of progress. I mean in an ideal world. Instead, he can seem skittish and fearful, and also he has shown, that if you just ignore him and get results, he will probably end up changing his mind and then rewarding you.
    Also, I don't think its the case here, but a common argument and stance used by many in the face of progress is to appeal to the idea to slow down, otherwise we risk civil unrest. Heimerdinger seems personable and wise, in person, but he is out of touch, and probably struggles to really relate and understand people with shorter lifespans. If he lived in reality, he would have existed before Women's Suffrage, various Civil Rights movements, etc and a lot of those struggles weren't pretty or neat, and many many people were hurt/killed. To be clear, its not the same. I don't know enough about Arcane magic or setting to make any informed or educated stances on how "dangerous" the progress is being made by Jayce/Viktor but... if Heimerdinger is so concerned, he could be doing a way better job or working with and alongside Jayce and Viktor to help them understand, instead of thinking resisting their scientific curiosity and desire to help people would work. Since on that topic, what the hell has Heimerdinger actually done to help people? Why is there an Undercity, why are their literal kids fighting and dying on the those streets? To be clear I like the character, and bet he has done a lot of good over his life, but people in his position, should take steps to make sure they don't lose touch with the people around them (think rich politicians who are clueless about the struggles of every day people or people in poverty). He basically needs to try and account for his life span, and find ways to relate to and see why/how some people won't be content waiting decades, when they see others struggling and dying around them. Many of his concerns are worthy of consideration and probably accurate (the potential for Jayce and Viktor's technology to be WMD) but then he should be that guiding force to ensure safety protocols are met, not to try and force the genie back into the bottle.
    Finally finally, Sam asked a great question about Jinx/Powder. Will she think that Vi had ill intentions or believe Vi was there for her? I think the really sad thing about her character? Which also applies to various mental health issues, and certain disorders, like BPD, psychosis, schizophrenia etc etc is that... Jinx will never actually know one way or another for sure. Doubt, second guessing, insecurities, invasive thoughts, will find ways to make her question herself, over and over and over, flipping and reversing, and reopening fresh wounds, old wounds. Just the degree and severity might change. Even if she got reassurance, such questions will haunt and plague her, and find ways to be twisted. Which sucks for her and for Vi too, because it can be hard trying to reach and reassure a loved one, to try and give them stability and security and yeah, its sucks even more because, welp, no signs of good mental health services in their setting. Not that most countries mental health facilities/infrastructure are optimal, we still have a lot to improve on. So I found the question very poignant and bittersweet. Anyway, the answer to the question ends up being more about management, and learning healthy coping habits, so even if one answer or scenario is dominant, you sort of make the best of it.

It's only when the life of his friend, the one who saved his life, is on the line that he decides to take sides against Heimerdinger. And even then he's clearly struggling with the decision, feeling bad about it.
      I honestly can't blame him for doing so, even though I wish he'd tried harder getting Heimerdinger to see his side and maybe coming to a compromise over just kicking him out of the council. Then again, maybe that was what's necessary for Heimerdinger to actually get out of his comfort zone and see the world as it is.

    Heimerdinger's "decade" estimate was just off-the-cuff, and probably not even accurate. What Heimerdinger should have emphasized was the direction their efforts should be taking--adding more safeguards against misuse--rather than some silly estimate of how much time they should spend on it. For all he knows, proper safeguards might only take a couple of years to develop, not a whole decade. And while Jayce is designing safeguards, Viktor can still be following up on the biological end of the research. Heimerdinger doesn't want all research to stop, he just wants to keep Hextech from being put into the hands of the citizenry at large until those safeguards are in place. Viktor's life can still be saved while making sure Hextech is safe for the general public. It doesn't have to be an either-or situation, and setting it up that way was a bit of sloppy writing, IMO.

      Which is why he will never see eye to eye with some people.
      For someone who is 300 years old.
      He still doesnt understand the impatience of human.
      He sees everything in his own perspective and is naive and goody two shoes. His only argument revolves around his age and what he saw
      Thats it

    No what happened to heimerdinger wasn't sad. Heimerdinger lacked a basic understanding that time is somethinng humans dont have. We invent a seatbelt we use it right away, we dont have 200 years to invent the perfectly 100% safe car to go with it. what happened to heimerdinger was not sad, it was inevitable.
