Hey Darren thank you sir appreciate that 👍 it’s all I’ve ever done since leaving school and I still have passion for it, I do question it thow when I’m wrestling and engine or box on my own 😂.
That engine/ engine bay looked like a van that had done 500miles after you had finished! Your attention to detail is quality 👍 love this channel 👍
Hey Mike thank you mate appreciate that, it did come up well for an almost 300k work van. Thank you for the comment 👍

Massive thank you for the video Nathan. Cracking job you did there. The new engine sounds sweet and is on the button. Loving this Transporter build.
Hey Karl thank you sir always appreciate your comment, it does sound sweet will get the Downpipe attached and take it for a better drive.

Hey Sam that’s great thank you I’m sure you can do it 👍 if you get stuck with anything give me a shout and I’ll try help. Thanks again mate

Another good vid dob especially appreciated the little cut away shot showing the vnt mechanism working Looking forward to the 10k subs party keep grinding bro your smashing it its gonna come soon 💯
Hey bud thank you I appreciate that, and thanks for the feedback on the video 👍 it’s sometimes hard knowing what bits to show and what not.
Great vid as usual! With the dipstick tube if the lower half is the metal press-in sort then this may be able to be removed and replaced with a plastic tube that’s shaped and moves the dipstick back towards the engine. The plastic one bolts into the block at its base. It’s easier to remove the metal tube by tapping it out from underneath with the sump off. This is what I had to do fitting a golf bkc into a caddy with a broken bls- some of your earlier vids were a great help with this project. Thanks!
Hi jec, yes the bottom half was a metal press it. Yes I know the one your on about actually, the plastic bit I got fit onto what was there and I warmed it up with a heat gun and it sits perfect now I’ll show it in the next video. Thanks for the little tip mate 👍
There nothing I can say that has not already been said, you my mate are the absolute DON!!! 👌 tour attention to detail is phenomenal ❤

hi ! thank you for helping me to understand my T5.1 engine !
Now that is what you call an engine build 👌🏾 i dont normally watch videos which are this long but i watched this one with ease and found it very interesting and informing . You have done a cracking job there and it aint even finished yet. Already looking forward to the next one 👍🏾
Hey bud thank you always appreciated 👍 glad the video kept you entertained for so long I do try to keep them half hour or under but a full engine build took abit longer. I’ve cracked straight on with the next video so will try to keep them regular 👍

Hi there!!! I really liked the whole saga and I have a very similar project, I'm just missing things😂😂😂 VW T5 2.5 to 1.9 TDI ASZ. It helped me a lot to get started and I am missing the electrical diagram and hardware connection
Thank you as always Nathan, excellent video, have no doubt you will do a cracking job with this van.
Hey simon thank you as always sir 🙏
Just done the same swap and changed the dipstik also. On the ASZ/ BLT you need to knock the dipstick holder out when the sump is off.
Hey Joe awesome a few people have mentioned the same to I wish I done mine but scrapped the block now 🤷🙄
Very interesting rebuild top job mate and well explained 👏👍
Hey Tim thank you sir, I try to explain the important bits without waffling on to much 👍
If this is only half as good as your caddy it will be an awesome build. Keep at it mate, looking forward to the next episode👍

Half way through very similar swap and sure darkside did a 170bhp map for this swap because gearbox is the limiting weak part ( 5 speed ) and 2.0 tdi 6 speed box bits for a transporter are silly money either way nice job great video
Hey Marc I’ve heard loads about the 5 speeds so I’ll be limiting my remap round about 150, someone else mentioned they are in the middle of a 6 speed swap.
Top job as always nathan
Its gonna be a super van when its all done ❤
Hey Al thanks mate always appreciate your comments 👍 I havnt mentioned in the videos yet but I’ll be putting this one up for sale when done so I want it to be as good as possible for a new owner.

Nice video & nice mention! My T5.1 will be gone in a couple of weeks, so will see what’s left over 😎
Hey Ian thank you again mate, really appreciate the lights and had to give you a mention 👍 any bits would go to great use, what you buying to replace it?
@@YTDTETV , already got the replacement. T6.1 panel van, which is being converted to a camper. Doing some bits myself, but it’s in next week for pop top, windows, carpeting and floor. Leaving that stuff to the experts 😂
@@ianduckworth9925 oooo very nice 👍 what engine does it have? I don’t blame you with pop top or windows I’d be nervous of taking a grinder to the roof or side panel to 😂 carpet lining isn’t hard but it does take some effort.
@@YTDTETV did the windows myself on the T5.1, but can’t be bothered with the stress this time round 😂. Engine is just the 110 BHP 5 speed manual. Seems to go well, be will get remapped once the VW warranty ends. Will go to 180 BHP. Did similar with the T5.1 4.5 years ago, from 101 to ~170, without any issues whatsoever. Put ~40k on the clock in that time, so not worried about doing same with the T6.1.
@@ianduckworth9925 oh man your so right about window tinting that takes some effort to, I’ve done most jobs and there’s a handfull I’d still get someone else to do. That’s a nice power increase I’m hoping to get something similar from this one. Not after massive power just a little extra umph!!

Hey guy 👍 I think it’s all about the noises and feel with mechanics, just let’s you know something has seated nice or is in square. Appreciate the comment 👍
Fantastic thorough content bud fair play 👍
hey man watched the whole series. diggin it ! i had a question about the turbo upgrade. 1 where did u buy it ? 2 What car does it come from ? car looks great ! cheers
Well I’m in a world of pain as you say 😂. Just don’t my injector seals with new bolts & they’ve jumped the thread at 270 degrees 🤦🏻♂️ tried the next one at 180 and the same again. Currently looking to upgrade to a asv engine.
Hi Lee oh man sorry to hear that, with injectors I don’t normally go by torque settings for that exact reason as the threads are so small and the bolts are so weak. I just use a 3/8 ratchet and do the bolts up by holding the ratchet by the head with one hand and do them tight rather than 2 hands on a ratchet. That way you can over tighten or strip the threads as your holding the ratchet with the smallest leverage point. I’ve never had an injector leak and I’ve never stripped one. What mileage is your engine on? If it’s below 200k it might be an idea just to replace the cylinder head.
@@YTDTETV engine is on 180k, done the head gasket 5 years ago. I’m looking at a ASZ engine tomorrow (time for an upgrade)
Got my ASZ engine in..is there a generic map for these. I went and asked revo remaps and they won’t touch it. I’ve left the pd130 injectors in & kept my old 105 turbo
I see you mention about the oil cooler being different on the original engine compared to some ASZ engines, I assume by what your saying that they aren't interchangeable.
Loving the clean engine bay too 👌
Hey Brendan yes they are interchangeable 👍 thank you

Thank you Jack appreciate that mate 👍
Hey, nice to see your project progressing. I am literally in the middle of a gearbox swap (5->6 speed manual), be careful with the remap if you plan to do that on your ASZ, the gearbox is not really made to take a lot of torque and eventually it will fail.
6 speed 02m are good
Hey Richard thank you for the comment. I totally agree with the remap on the 5 speed as I’ve read a lot about torque killing them, my plan is to have a remap but a super soft one. Let’s say it’s 105hp now the max I want is maybe 140. It goes alright now I just want it to have a better map than factory really, better on fuel and just a hair more power if needed.
Is that the car gearbox? They are very very good.
@@levispartan1993 Unfortunately the t5 uses a different gearbox than the car (They are different shape and form and geared differently). I believe the 5 speed is originated from the t5 2.4D, whilst the 6 speed is a completely different design.
As my foggy memories tell me it is possible to swap a TDI to the T4 together with the gearbox, it is not an option for the gearbox (at least not plug-n-play) in the T5.
I actually happen to have a 5 speed fabia and and a 5 speed T5 2.0 TDI gearbox side by side outside I can show you the differences if interested. Well, I could actually show all 3 of them (6 speed T5 bitdi box) and compare them in a video if interested.

Hey bud thank you appreciate that and thank you for watching 👍
Great video, I’m about to do this, quick question, did you remap it for the bigger 130 injectors before starting it. Sounds mint 👍👍👍
Hi bud thank you 👍 you can run it on the 130 injectors yes but it runs lumpy on idle and smokes abit. You can then get someone to remap it but they need to remap it properly as the furling maps need changing to 130 injectors. I ended up fitting the original injectors as I wasn’t after a power increase and it runs absolute mint 👍

Have you gone 6 speed box?
What needs doing to the exhaust?
Did you solve the boost pipe issue? Any clues

Hey bud thank you appreciate that 👍
1.9 tdi all the way ! 💪🏻
The 2.0 tdi as just as good, if not better in the t5.
Hey igor I do love and PD 👍 thanks for the comment.
Hey Richard is that the later common rail engine you speak of? The 1.6 common rail is really bad in the caddy.
@@YTDTETV I have the CAAB (102 PS) with the Bosch CR injection system with 443k kms. I strongly believe this his the best engine for the T5 (the 82/102/140 single turbo variants are literally the same the difference is the maps they have and the gearbox, the 140 has the six speed from the factory). These engines does not have the balance shaft driven by a hex rod other 2.0 TDIs have. I'd say the EGR is their only kinda issue. This engine relates directly with the 2.0 PD with some obvious modifications.
The 1.6 does have a siemens/continental injection system which sometimes give the owners headache. They are not bad engines in my book, but they are aimed at a different audience - mostly it is about fuel economy when not driven hard, commuting to work, etc.
@@RichardStefanits ah the Bosch fuel system is much better than Siemens 👍 blimey that mileage is up there but my old block had 280k and was mint inside. The 6 speed box would be nice and they are a lot stronger. I’m a fan of remaps myself and mainly egr deletes I’ve seen the crud build up in intakes and inlet ports from them so that’s why I delete them. Yes the balance shaft TDI’s are pretty bad, I had one once I bought it broke and I fitted the 1.9tdi pd pump and chain into the sump literally a straight swap.

Hey AK thank you mate appreciate that 👍
Stumbled on this channel, I love the little tips and tricks you share, you have great knowledge. Question- I have a 2010 t5.1 carevelle DSG, only 50k on the clock. When I am driving around town I can hear a low gas pressure noise, not loud, sounds a bit like a steam/air sound. When I parked up the other day, blue/grey exhaust smoke expelled from underneath the engine area. Only has done this once, it looks dry underneath, turbo is only two years old and clean. What do you think it could be?
Hi bud thank you appreciate the comment 👍 is your van air con? Do you use it? If so next time you hear the noise turn the ac off and see if the noise has gone. Had a a few customers recently ask that and that’s what it turned out to be.
@@YTDTETV Hi yes it is AC, however I very rarely run it as it’s freezing over in Northern Ireland. However I will put it on and off tomorrow to see if there is any difference. Thanks for the reply 👍
Hi mate great vid I did this conversion on my t5 best thing I ever did what did you do about the dip stick? Did you keep the asz dipstick in?
hey bud thank you appreciate that, Yes I left the ASZ dipstick and just cut a small piece out of the front engine mount.

Is it sad that I’m watching DTE latest vid on the night it drops whilst in Egypt on holiday?? Nah, good. Do those turbo bolts shrink or something?
Hey B-RY that is awesome that your watching while on holiday. I really want to go to Egypt one day I’ve watched so many pyramid programs on the tube, are you visiting them? Erm I think it’s a case of rust and heat and they shed layers. They start as 10mm and the longer they are left the smaller they get. Have a nice time mate 👍
Hi mate,
Goto say attention to detail is a1, a man after my own heart.
My BRR engine has just died so in the middle of doing this swap myself. Did you have any issues running the asz turbo? With the vacuum side of things? Regards Anthony
Hi Anthony thank you for the comment appreciate that 👍 the asz turbo is just a vacuum actuator the same as your old one so just push the line on in the same place and it will work 👍
I explain what I done to the Downpipe on the next video
@@YTDTETV hi mate, was only asking as I read somewhere that one was a push and one was a pull actuator but thought they both run on vacuum so can’t see how they wouldn’t work.

Very interesting indeed.... I have an 05 transporter at the moment with the 2.5 axd engine. The engine is out and in bits at the moment because a piece of baffle plate broke off in the sump and wreaked havoc on a few cylinders. I am getting a quote for liners but am now wondering what would be involved in putting a pd 130/150 into the 5 cylinder model. Any advice 🤔
Hey James I see so many horror stories about the 2.5, to fit the 1.9 you need the engine and gearbox as your gearbox has a different bolt pattern, engine loom and ecu. It’s a fair few parts but the 1.9 is so much more reliable than the 2.5. Hope that helps
@@YTDTETV thanks for getting back that's good advice 😀
What oil filter housing and rear mount you used? I see it differs from asz and axb
Hi Nathan
Great video .
Could you tell me if the engine has to be from the fabia vrs or will the atd beetle engine work as well?
Thank you
Hi bud thank you any 1.9pd will fit it’s just a case of some having an oil filter housing that pokes out more you can see the difference just looking at them. Both engines fit but the bigger oil filter housing ones need a slim Line radiator fan instead of the oem one.
@@YTDTETV thank you Nathan

Also I was thinking about all the sensors . Ie crank and cam and it other sensors .
Should I just swap them all over .
I lm asking a lot of questions but this is my first attempt at this and it’s daunting . I’m just a diyer.
I was also thinking of just mapping the injectors rather than dig in there so I’m gonna look for a file or take it somewhere to do it .
