The large S-band* dishes that make up the ground based WSR-88D network are quite big (around 10m). S-band is a good choice because they have low attenuation and can penetrate through storms and see things behind them. Airplanes can't use S-band though, because the antennas are too big to put on the airplane and require too much power to fully utilize them. Airplane radars are generally in the X-band*. X-band can see smaller particles than S-band but attenuates easier. This means if a big storm is in front of you, the energy doesn't penetrate far into the storm and may not show you the whole storm. These are great short range radars and work well in airborne applications as long as you are aware of the issue with attenuation. To be honest even though the new WX radar are quite dramatic.. pilots should avoid areas of moderate to severe precipitation (Red or magenta returns) and clearly this was an active TS over the field.. they did a very good job but still….
When the windshield wipers are in synchronicity with each other, it seems like the mind takes of a lesser load. Maybe that might be something to think about.
sheesh! i would have my heart in my throat! even after doing it a few times! I'm sure he's done it quite a few times in his flying career though, since he's a captain! still, that is pretty gnarly! lol
Thats what i want to see when it arrives hopefully in 2020 i can only wait and see, might just get it from what i have seen so far, anyway great video, thumbs up and a Sub.
I would divert .. even if it s a headwind landing..you can’t predict gusts and wind direction under a storm .. plus the insane water quantity that s the engines had to injuste..however nice landing and fly safe .
Fecking Majorca has a thunderstorm? Jeez, it was like this driving to the airport in Ireland but when we got to Majorca. Not a cloud or a gust of wind.
If that landing was bad for the passengers they better be happy that they landed on the runway instead of the grass so even with that bumby cockpit still it's a good landing and safer than over running the runway or having the winds push you off the runway
That co-pilot is really working the yoke with his mind.

Anybody else end up hypnotized by the windshield wipers?
more annoyed they were not in unison.
isn't the right one faster? :)
I hate airplane so much, I didn't know that I can hold my breath 4min straight
@@-AlexMil- You can engage them separately, which results in a little offset sometimes ^^
Mushroom tea would go great with those wipers.
I got hypnotized by the dancing flight yoke!
Impressive pilot skills, I love the last minute rudder kick!!
ALWAYS remember, a good landing is when the airplane can be used again.
don't let ryanair see this
The airline likely is Ryanair lol
The Comedy Pilot Yep, it is Ryanair 100% there are other videos where you can see that the airline he works for is Ryanair
@@laloglez1058 I think most 737's in Europe are operated by Ryanair, it's very easy to tell lol.
@@thecomedypilot5894 Yes but you can never be sure till you see it, IMO
Amazing staying on top of that crosswind at the last 10 feet. Wow.
Thx for the videos and keep em coming....great skill displayed👏
JESUS the amount of "storm" that is on the radar
Those are microbursts, and trust me, you will *NOT* like them.
@@akkihole_ They are not microburst, just intense precipitation. And the new weather radars are quite dramatic.
@@solocounter absolutely terrifying mate those are some calm and professional pilots
What is detected by the wx radar is precipitation, not storms or microbursts.

02:20 reverse thrust "the flash" :D
hahaha
Wow great landing! You guys definitely earned your duty time that day.
Nice landing and awesome 4k . Greetings from Brazil.
Excellent execution. Bravo.
What a skilled pilots! Great job!
@Mr. X At 1:45 you can hear the Autopilot disconnect sound, so yes he land it him self, no autopilot landing
they earned their money that day!
Yeap how the pilots say, they are not paid for a regular flights, they are paid to land the plane in those unforeseen circumstances, ace job.
Uh .. I think it's the auto pilot that landed the plane?

You're kidding? That was very calm landing. No wind gusts, nothing. Just a bit of rain.

Kudos to the pilots !! You probably don't realize but landing in a thunderstorm is AWWWFFFFUUUULLLL !! Really experienced and trained pilots.
Which is why you should avoid doing it.

It was the sneaky crosswind right at touchdown!! And was still in control of that Aircraft now that’s piloting 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Great landing.
Parabéns
Fastest wipers ever :)
No streaking either!
My car wipers are faster.
Just remember: Pilots fly with much more, than just their view through the Window. Still a great job, every one of them are doing.
Jesus...what a landing! I would have left the AP on till I got over the runway!!! The radar looked like a kaleidoscope.
Wow what a landing! World class pilot skills. Also love this because I have landed (as a passenger) hundreds of times at Palma de Mallorca.

Those wipers remind me of the ones on my Morris Minor!
Pilots Rock.
wOw look at the controls !!
Es sorprendente que con tantos avances y tanta tecnología, aún nadie haya inventado algo que sustituya a un limpia parabrisas de toda la vida
That was quite close with the wings during the de-crab. Great landing though👍
I have an extreme fear of flying and this video somehow made it feel s bit less scary.
That landing was butter
Wow big gust 10ft off the ground
I think it's the final rudder input to straighten up after crosswind.
I love the way you can see the pilots guiding controls on the co pilots stick at the start , while I’m thinking “where on earth is the runway”
It's on autopilot until 1:44, then the pilot takes over.
Good job
What airline? Good video👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
mixture of lucky and crazy ... and for the passenger all set and happy end :-)))))
Plane: gets struck by lightning and shakes like an earthquake

Useful reminder of why I’m sitting in the cabin and not the cockpit! 😳

good job and good landing in this condition , bravo :)..but the the wipers awful lol ...wich airline Ryanair or Enter ?
