I like it how Blake rode MegaAvalanche on a hardtail, but decided to get a full suspention for a case of stairs.
Lol
Rofl
yeah my thoughts exactly. I did say to Nick/Cameraman. I need my hardtail haha
@@BlakeSamson8 I think your next contract should include a stipulation that you aren't allowed on full sus bikes.
Ps it'd be amazing to see urban/trial riding from you on a gravel bike, watching your trials practice videos with Ashtyn was awesome!
@@nk-dw2hm đđđđ
Blake should bring Sam Pilgrim to the nice stair sets, he only seems to find "DOOMERS".
That would make a great part 2! đ
they should do game of bike
i just hit my first set of stairs today and honestly there is nothing like it, it is one of the funnest things i have done on my mtb so far.
ayo nice vid! alttough can you do more tips like this, but on a hardtail? I'm a begginner and i've just bought a new hardtail and I want to learn as much as i can
I have a relatively budget hardtail. The basics are the same, but just bumpierđ. Itâs important to stay loose and donât be scared to pick up speed.
@@davidxin5805 yea, my bike is also like 600 euros. Thx for the tip
Saddle down, pedals straight and level, and try to put most of your weight over the back wheal this is the most important thing. Because as the nose of the bike dives in the stairs the back will have an easier time getting up in the air thus loosing control and throwing you over the bars (don't ask me how I know).. I'm riding a 300$ XC bike every day in my urban area riding stairs every single day. Yes it will be bumpy on a hard tail but with practice of that technique it will be a piece of cake. And most important put on your protective gear, don't be scared, and commit to it! Have fun
@@andreiatanasiu463 What do you get for 500 euros where you live? I live in Russia, and I for 400euros I got a GT Aggressor with a freewheel and tourney with 3x7 transmission
@@Tone32616 i got a Cross Fusion 9, with mt-200 equivalent brakes, 100mm Srstuntour fork, 3x9 drivetrain
When I used to live in London and occasionally commute to work in winter on my downhill bike. I would change off road wheels for road wheels and tyres. Sort of "supermoto" my bike. There was always street furniture, stairs, challenges and obstacles to ride.
The great thing about this was I still got my fix of challenging riding, and I didn't get filthy dirty nor did my bike. Obviously if you screw up and hit the deck, the ground is a lot harder than rain sodden mud. But a prang, is a prang.
I once suggested that one of my mates that he give it a try. (Road wheels on his down hill bike and go urban down hill)....... The look he gave me was like I had told him that I had just wiped my backside on his pillow. He was shocked at the thought of it.
You wonÂŽt believe how many ppl would like to do things but fail because they they think too much or have lack of confidence. This is the same what's hindering them to join other riders.
Ty gmbn for always encouraging the people. I think especially within the greatest sport in the world the first experiences on the mtb need to be as cool as it can be to rise the stoke level.
I actually got over confident and nose case a platform and otb 12 stairs
It's true. I like the guys I ride with because even though they egg you on a bit they respect your limits and you're still part of the group and we all have loads of fun.
Seems like bike breaking territory. I assumed there was some technique that allowed you to preserve your wheels when I saw people do it in videos
Did my first stairs this summer!!! 64, not to old, although my bridge vibrated loose.
đ€Ł
Blake is always so happy. It makes all his videos great to watch.
Woohoo Blake.. I've had my bike for 1 year..came off it other day(first time!)...got first puncture yesterday!..and I've worn the chain and cassette down!!...but I'm loving it,this is cool on steps..but I love it when you go to the woods!!Merry Christmas!XâŁïž
@sisterdrummer 777 Sounds sick. There is always a first time for everything but glad you love mountain biking! Keep Shredding đ€
Stoked for you!! Merry Christmas and I hope you get some biking kit or stuff.
In addition to Blake's vid another tip is to approach with pedals level and push your knees sightly forward so your elbows bend right before rolling in. This makes the roll in easier compared to doing it with more stretched arms. Once rolling in your bike will shift forward and because of the bend arms you have more room to let it do so without having to move your upper body a lot. Don't forget to drop the heels slightly once you roll in.
I hope this makes sense, a bit hard to explain in just words đ Learned this from another CZcams tut ons stairs but not sure if it's appreciated adding the link.
Good MTB skills can transfer to all kinds of 2 wheel adventures. Solid video, thanks for posting. đȘđ„
I always notice how Blake always has a colorful set of grips on his bike. I donât know why I took notice to that but I feel like itâs a nice touch and I got a set of moss green grips to go with my bike. I know it has no purpose with this video but I really like watching Blake and his tutorials.
I have a hardtail. I have been driving past stairs for over a year. Just 2 weeks ago i just sent it. If i only new, that stairs are so much fun, i would have done it a year ago. Now i have been sending all the stairs i could find in my neighborhood.
Awesome video Blake. I got a new MTB and now I just have to wait for this Canadian winter to pass and then try some stairs. đ
Cool instructional video đ I enjoy urban riding early on weekends when no one around especially traffic
used to do stairs as a kid. love doing them still the more the better
Thank you Sir.
muchas gracias.... muy interesante y bien hecho
Blake and Martin are the Don daddas of GMBN... That Canyon is the boom! Bike check? What's with the pink lid?
Also, another disadvantage of riding too slowly on a set of stairs is that the natural tendency to counter steer for balance could force the bars at full 90 if the front wheel happens to be just at the edge of the next step. This will almost certainly cause you to jackknife over the bars especially if the stairs were steep. Just keep a moderate speed and and front wheel square. And of course weight centered over bottom bracket.
my front fork is on the low end and I prefer to lean a bit more to the back wheel ;d
Thank you! I will get an mtb gifted soon and this Will be the first thing i will do!
thnx mate
Just upgraded the forks....it's time to learn this
Hey! Great video Blake
Thanks
Thank you for that, I live on very top of a mountain and . There's 150 steps .am going for it. Helmet and pads, I have med care and have not used it....yet
Blake, you are the gem..
\m/
Now do a how to ride up the stairs!!! I only got till my back wheel to the 1st step. đ and im 40. đ
Hi Blake, please make a video how to ride Upstairs. There are so few bids about that - I'm especially interested how to approach the first steps.
Thanks a lot! Why heals down?
I hit my first set of stairs today im going to learn this skill so i can take more advanced stairs
What a solid bike.
My first and most brutal crash ever was a concrete staircase, I broke several of those rules above :| mild concussion, broken helmet, wasted left knee, wasted left 3 fingers and wedding ring, tore my pants, scraped my boots and scratched the bike up.
Yeah, they not to forgiving. I went over the bars on a set near to me. Still give me the eby jeebies & don't feel that great even when you do them correct to be honest.
@@Northstar-Media pinch flats and disapproving public too! Ha ha
Great to watch but I doubt it can be done on a recombent trike or the bowhead?
Had loads of them for the European XCO Championships in the summer......
I learned what cement tastes like after trying this out at my local "nice' staircase.
Great job Blake. The next for me is how to cross an not very deep river...
Stair turns are fun!! But check no one coming up, yes
Ive been eyeing a gnarly stair double gap for ages. Got out of control once and am terrified now!
Christmas stairs in Bristol are challenging đ
Best way to learn how to go downstairs is to go down a curb then down a two-step then down a three-step then down a four-step then down finally a six-step and then you could just pretty much do any kind of vertical size of staircase really easily
@@8ace293 you know when I go down stairs you really do t have to put all you weight In the back you can just ride down also.
Your bike stats stable like riding down a hill just by its self so if you just committed its really not bad at all its just like a thing you go down.
lets hope it works i have a xc race its my first time and i trackread it earlier and messed up and fell down and the race is tommorow and the funny thing is im using gravel tires one slick one not. i just hope ill do good tommorow and not mess up again
I always look at a stairset and want to ride my mountain bike down them. I can't even watch a film with stairs in. Without wanting to ride down those stairs as well. Except maybe the stairs in Valparaiso Urban Downhill.
tips for going up them please.
0:54 bro made scrambled eggs
Can you do a video on this on a jump bike
Blake could make riding down the Grand Canyon look easy.
Going faster smooths it out!
How much psi should I put in my tubeless tires for jumping and riding stairs?
Actually there is nothing to learn about riding on stairs. There is only one thing you should know - faster you go, smother and more fun it is. And if you don't need to turn on the end of the stairs, don't use brakes.
agreed, i've ridden stairs a lot. If anything its much easier than going down a tree rooty downhill as all the steps are consistent.
0:52 HTH did you pull that off. đ
tip if u go fast then it takes a lot of the bumps out of it and your tire will glide over the ridge/peak of each step
hey does somebody know are trail bikes good for riding staris?
are enrty level bikes good fro again riding stairs?
can you guys make a video on how to gap a set of stairs?
Is that a mullet set up on the bike? I see the back wheel is a 27.5 but I can't quite see the front wheel.
Next, Blake demonstrates how to ride UP the stairs!
How much tire pressure to go up and down stairs ?
I could do that stair set, its when the stairs are have a bigger foot steps when I struggle, it starts to buck you half way down & you don't want that. Face down on the ground. Been there.
why am i watching this my one and only KOM is at my uni with only stairs on the trail haha but great video nonetheless
i'm more curious how to get up onto those wooden sand-stairs on the trail that the cyclocross guys guys use. most MTB'ers i've seen will just get of the bike and run up, but some manage to ride/jump to the top
Shout out Frome and Gordon the camel in the background!
Can you go down without suspension on mtb?
What size is Blakeâs Mullet? đ
Final step.. forget everything Blake just said & just send itđ€đŒ
A beginners guide to street riding hereâs is a couple of tips avoid Riding in the rain on a JB and avoid those Block paving style bricks that many street Spot has they are like Black ice when wet and if security guardâs ask you to move on just leave and go to a different spot if you argue with them youâll just make it worse for yourself and avoid going down escalators there may be fun but they are very slippery when wet And also tried to land flat itâs a part of street riding culture LOL
I ride down steps regularly on some of the routes I ride they good fun pedestrians think Iâm nuts đđđ
no.1 thing is commitment, know that it is going to be steep and bumpy. U cant stop in the middle, coz if u do, ud go over the bars
I would try to ride staris tomorrow
The steps to riding a staircase. :D
you guys could make "How To" 's videos riding hardtails, to make things more interesting
My first stair set was all 4sets abt 36steps on a 100ÂŁbike
Whereâs Pilgrim?? Stair sets of DOOM! lol
A DOOOMER !!
There are far more sketchy stairs than trails by me and Iâve ridden almost all of them.
How do you progress to gapping stair sets?
Find a small drop into a stairset (bench, ledge,...) and go from there. Bunnyhopping into easy stairsets also builds confidence, start slow and increase the distance you hop into the stairs when you feel comfortable.
Hey Siri⊠show me the closest set of stairs âcause weâre going!
Blake: Be natural let the the bike do its thing. Yur gonna feel those vibrations.
Me: Go get spank vibrocore and dats it.
My question is how do i use stairsets as landings like Gabriel wibmer
ExactlyâŠ!!

For some reason when I do stairs I seem to have a tendency to put the derailleur into the rear wheel on the descent as it slaps about and rip the spokes to bits and ruin the wheel & mech. On my jump bike (single speed) it's fine but on my full bounce MTB I'm always apprehensive now.
Change into an easier gear. Don't have it on the hardest gear but also not in the easiest gear - IN the middle. A little more tension in the derailleur will help.
@@BlakeSamson8 cheers Blake.. I think a lot of the problem comes down to the fact I'm using a clutchless mech with a long reach (shimano Altus or Acera tend to be my choice - I'm running a cheapo bike with upgrades lol).. Chain is probably way to sloppy as a result.
@@IanMaddock do yourself a favor and get a deore derailleur with a clutch. Itâll make a world of difference
I completely ignored the braking advice and locked the brakes. I then flew over the handlebars
What u doing in Frome?
Was Chris too busy to make this?!
Stair set of doom.
As a daily bike commuter, I'd need this for emergency reason...
Stair set of DOOM!

3rd comment?
Stairs are rooty chutes.
Im sad. Hoping I can have my own bike đ
stairset of doom
2nd comment?
So is this not gonna break my bike in two?
Can you show use how to ride up the stairs?
There is "old" video on gmbn how to ride up the stairs.
But yea, they can make new one đ
What to
