How One Person, In the Wake of Their Own HIV Diagnosis, Came to Save the Life of Another.

In 2019, Dimitri Moïse, an actor living with HIV, was preparing for opening night at the Public Theater in New York City, where they were portraying a Black queer person with an unexpected HIV diagnosis. They had no idea how the day leading up to the performance was going to go - and they certainly didn’t expect to get an Instagram message from a queer Black person in Cameroon who had received his own diagnosis and was having suicidal ideations. Despite the stressors any actor would experience before a performance, Dimitri dropped everything and spent the better part of eight hours talking with the man until they were sure he was safe - an experience that carried them through their performance that night and beyond.
