  • In 2019, Dimitri Moïse, an actor living with HIV, was preparing for opening night at the Public Theater in New York City, where they were portraying a Black queer person with an unexpected HIV diagnosis. They had no idea how the day leading up to the performance was going to go - and they certainly didn’t expect to get an Instagram message from a queer Black person in Cameroon who had received his own diagnosis and was having suicidal ideations. Despite the stressors any actor would experience before a performance, Dimitri dropped everything and spent the better part of eight hours talking with the man until they were sure he was safe - an experience that carried them through their performance that night and beyond.
