- This video is really short and kind of choppy (and yes I reused some footage) but I was on vacation last week in Chicago so I didn't have that much time to work on an extra cool video this week. However I will be uploading a Chicago vlog to my side channel this week as well so look forward to that.
Here's where you can listen to The Great Comet:

the fact that Dear Evan Hansen is still running and TGC closed keeps me awake at night. dont @ me
Hey hey, the great comet closing is a terrible sadness but this is an all show friendly environment. The Great Comet deserved better, but we shouldn't hate on other shows. (Also as creator of this video I reserve my right to @ you or delete your comment sorry but I really don't want a fight in my comments)
I'm sorry if that sounded really bossy, I just refuse to be one of those creators whose comment sections are filled with arguing and I know that a lot of people might be offended by your comment and ignore your request.
I wasn’t about to argue; I fully agree.
❤️
I KNOW RIGHT
DUST AND ASHES KEPT ME AWAKE FOR WEEKS THAT SONG MOVES MY SOUL IN SO MANY WAYS
I listen repeat to calm myself down a lot.
Cmon there were definitely more than 5 reasons why they deserved MUCH BETTER
Yeah but I didn't have enough time to make a 10 hour video talking about why the great comet is the best
That Lazy Snail I understand 😭
*SOBS IN RUSSIAN*
I spent most of the morning crying honestly
That Lazy Snail same
IM SORRY AMBER YOU DESERVED BETTER
Yes, yes, YES! Honestly Great Comet is perhaps the most unique show Broadway has seen in the past 15 years (sorry Hamilton 😂) I was lucky enough to see it when Oak was Pierre and honestly it was probably one of the most incredible experiences in my life. Another thing that really made it special was the fact that they were able to incorporate improv into their show. It was like no two performances were identical, which I thought was super cool. A true artist can adapt to their surroundings and make something different with the same source material every night.
You are so lucky you got to see it! I agree it is more unique than Hamilton, it's just not as ear wormy... I hope it will get a revival and I'll get to see it (preferably before I'm dead)
This. THIS.
I couldn't agree more, the shows deserves much better. And Groundhog Day too! They have announced its closing date and I am so sad, I hope it will get back to London soon enough, so I can maybe get a chance to see it. I would LOVE to be able to see The Great Comet live. It's unique and I'm talking to every theatre nerd I know so they can learn about it and, at least, listen to the amazing album.
I have tried to convince at least 5 different people to listen to it. It deserves so much more recognition.
In my opinion, this was a perfect example of how "Broadway Fever" makes sure that 90% Broadway shows never make money and are 100% controlled by the Broadway machine. T.G.C. was a totally original type of show, not only in the writing , stage design and music but in it's ability to flaunt convention. I mean what kind of show ends up running out of a TENT in the Meat Packing District of New York???!!!
The problem is that once the show get's monetized for Broadway, and the investors must be satisfied, and the unions must be hired, and there are only 40 theaters that control the "success" of every play in the country... The original rebels who conceived of it and produced it don't stand much of a chance.
Yet, again and again, we all collectively concede that "real theater" can only exist in New York, (or possibly London) and can only be successful if done in the Theater District of Manhattan. And if the Broadway financiers, or the powerful stage unions, of the theater press, or the politics of Broadway conspire to screw things up, then a good play goes down in flames, due to no fault of their own.
Maybe it's time that we stop putting ALL our eggs in the Broadway basket and be willing to broaden our definitions of "success" to include other places where the same quality of work and production can be done at much more reasonable costs, without the backing of investment bankers, and the approval of a small number of powerful critics who's peculiar tastes influence what everyone else gets to see.
If not, this will happen again and again as i has now been happening for decades.
someone: *says literally anything*
me:
I 100% agree with what you said in this video! The Great Comet of 1812 is such a magnificent musical and it sucks to see it go
I just hope that it will someday get a revival and I can go see it
thE GREAT COMET IS SO GOOD IM WEEPING
Are you weeping buckets? (I'm sorry I had to make the pun)
PREACH! This show was ground-breaking on so many levels and more Broadway shows should take note. #keepthecometshining
Also, the costuming is incredible! They paralleled Regency-era clothing with styles from the 1980s/90s (Cold War era) and it works so well. To anyone who thinks the show is rehashing material that's not relevant to a modern audience: the story delves into the depth of different types of relationships and the impact of isolation and depression on people seeking connection (in addition to the gender-fluid and race-blind casting that better reflects present-day audiences). If that's not relevant to our society today, I don't know what is.
I totally agree, although it seems like it isn't relevant to society right now it really deals with all the themes and concepts that we as a society are talking about today. #keepthecometshining
YES! On the surface it seems like it's just telling the story of War and Peace, but once you actually listen to the characters and their struggles, you realize that we struggle with the same things today. Great job, Dave Malloy!
I'm happy they were nominated in the Tony's, at least..
Yeah, but it should have won something (although I will fight for Dear Evan Hansen so not a good argument) but it definitely deserved best orchestrations Lacamoire (though I love him) did not need another Tony
That Lazy Snail I agree
As someone who had the incredible oppourtunity to watch the show on Broadway, I found it one of the most uniquely staged and incredibly-written shows I've ever listened to and had the pleasure to see.
The actors were all incredible and their vocals were insane, the subtext was incredibly clear and the characters were presented in "Prologue" in such a fun and interesting way.
It will be missed on Broadway, and I'm just lucky to have had the chance to see it before it closed.
I agree with everything you said and I'm very jealous you got to see it. You are right, it will be missed
Im more hooked to this than Hamilton tbh.
And DEH didnt even strike me as much.
THANK YOU! I wish people had listened to this and gone to the show so they made enough money so Great Comet didn't have to close! Also, I've begun reading war and peace because of the show! I would've never even considered it if not for this show. I'm so sad I never got to see it...
Same, I am so sad I'll never get to experience the show in it's truest form. I have also started War and Peace cause of it too, I hope to make a before and after the Great Comet videos talking more about the characters and their roles in the book
#greatcometdeservedbetter
AGREED
I read war and peace before finding Great Comet and it was so unique and beautiful!! It deserved so much more!
I really did, I'm so sad it is gone
The thing that infuriated me most about the situation is what caused it in the first place. I get that it's not the best idea nowadays to have a white actor step into a role that a black actor was playing (Especially when that actor is someone like Oak who already has a following), but there's so much more to the situation than people realised.
1. The show already featured many non-white actors and actresses. Hell, Natasha had always been played by a POC. It's stupid to say a show with this kind of casting is "racist".
2. The guy who stepped in (I can't remember his name) was NOT going to replace Oak and was only going to be there for a few weeks, at most a month.
3. Oak had already done some shows as Pierre. It would've been another thing if Oak was only considered to play Pierre, but then the other guy was cast instead.
Im sad too because it would be really hard for it to go on tour because they would have to remodel the theatres they go to or rework the show to be only on stage
Yeah which is why it didn't win at the Tonys
I agree with everything you mentioned in the video! I had a chance to see the show a few weeks ago and it was amazing. Everyone in the cast is so talented and the show is beautiful. Great video!❤️❤️
Thank you ❤️ You are so lucky that you got to see it
• the songs don't all sOUND EXACTLY THE SAME LOOKIN AT YOU DEAR EVAN HANSEN
Please don't yuck other people's yum here on my channel, you can like Great Comet more than DEH but you don't have to tear DEH down to do so. If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all, I know a LOT of people on my channel love DEH, and I don't want them to feel like it's not safe for them here.
