  • Nearly 60,000 people have been evacuated from their homes in China, after days of heavy rain caused flooding in the Guangdong province.
At least three people have died, and 11 people are missing, according to state media.
Several major rivers have burst their banks, and authorities are closely monitoring "dangerously high" water levels.
Much of Guangdong is part of the low-lying Pearl River delta, which is prone to floods due to the rise in sea levels and storm surges. It is also one of the country’s most densely-populated regions, with Guangdong alone home to around 127 million people.

Simple because the dam they built the water can't flow to the ocean considering China blocks the river flows using dams so when that water gets released it comes down instantly flooding impacts are only worse if the flood water levels and the dam is almost on 100%

Referring to water levels being "their highest in half a century" isn't saying much. A 50-year flood should have been planned for and BUILT for, but that isn't what China is about. Displacing tens of thousands of residents is a matter of no importance to the Chinese government.

I lived there for over 15 years. It is easy to see why it floods there.
    1) It is a flood plain. Should never have put in so much housing and businesses.
    2) By putting in all these buildings, they covered up areas with concrete and asphalt where the water would drain off. So now the water cannot drain.
    Hence, flooding....

The cost of Flooding's versus the Economics Benefit of High Density Population are the balance that Urban Planners and Engineers and governments of all Level and Countries have to consider... No absolute "One Choice" -- There is no One Quick Fix.
China Population like Japan and South Korea began in Negative Growth since 2022; so are new extensions to lower density Population Cities would slowly solve current Problems.

Fact-Check : Why is China the number 1 polluter?
According to 2021 data, China tops the chart in annual carbon dioxide emissions from coal, the country's highest-consumed fossil fuel. China yields an annual amount of 7.96 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide from coal - a far cry from the second leading country, India, which has an annual amount of 1.80 billion tonnes.
So I can say that If China and the rest of the world does not change its ways regarding polluting the world that results in climate change then this will definitely get worse....
