I wasn't expecting a detailed explanation of why white painted electronics go yellow, but it was honestly really interesting.
indeed.
way more interesting than the underlying GPU at this point :D
Yeah, that was really helpful, and now I have a better understanding why it isn't as common.
My case is white and some parts have turned a light yellow. It is weird to look at and bothers me a little.
Yeah, it has made me reconsider my desire for an all white system
Came for white GPU, got science lesson on white paint yellowing. Very Nice.
Those colours got my attention. I know they don't exist but boy this one is sexy
Same here
6700XT is gpu thats easiest to buy
@@Terror1046 For 1000 dollars in the EU. That's not my idea of availability
@@Herr.Mitternacht well they are available. For msrp you'll have to wait until 2023/24
They're available for AUD1100 in Australia and have been in stock for over a week. Definitely overpriced but I'd rather pay $1,100 for a 6700XT than $2,000 for a 3070.
I really like the idea of getting an all white beast of a computer and then chain smoking right next to it.
i love the idea i mean that dynamic color change would surely be dope?
Lol
A graphics card review, and a masterclass on paint and it's molecules. The more you know!
But if his whites aren't right he just needs some Daz or Persil!
Next video: I left this 6700 xt in the sun for a week and this happened!!
It turned black.
Why do you have the same accent as Steve and Tim?
How to make a content piece on some non-content.
Oh god please no that’s ten percent of the world supply
Maybe Power Color secretly care about us gamer health and want us go outside and bath in the sun with this puppy once in a while.
i like how you made the bar on the bar chart white to mach the card
I like how my missus brought some beer home.
Man! Lately with this shiny and fancy white trend I was really forgetting the time when all cases where that dirty cigarette-yellow!
Really glad for the reminder and the explanation on the natural process
The weird thing is I had a PC next to a window as a kid and we eventually stashed it away in a closet and forgot about it. Both speakers are yellow but the one that was furthest from the window was way more yellow, nearly sickly beige.
When you clean your PC every few months, just take the GPU outside for a little bit of fresh air and sunshine. I am sure it will appreciate the change of environment and the vitamin D :)
Yeah take the Hellhound for a walk 😏
Appreciate the bonus explanation behind yellowing. Hardware Unboxed is truly a cut above the rest.
Honestly, I am so tired of all PCB's on video cards, sound cards, video cards being black. What happened to all the colours we had in the 2000's like green/purple/blue/white/red/yellow(gold). Manufactures should seriously start bringing them back.
The yellow will be a reminder that it’s time to upgrade!
Well I just learnt something about why white turns yellow, & I'm not even being sarcastic either. Thanks for that info!
Gloss paint goes yellow if it doesn't get sun light. Europe law... different materials than old gloss paint.
Thank you for the explanation on the paint. I always wondered that
That white PCB is beautiful i really hope more start doing it including motherboard manufacturers i understand the yellowing issue but damn its good looking
If you run some UV-LEDs in your case it will prevent the yellowing since it will keep the paint bleached
@@Bobis32 never thought the shiny trend could actually be useful someway but if it's for that beautiful white I could even do it
@@rodrigoferreiramaciel4815 think about 6 years ago it would have been impractical to produce UV light in a case since you would have to you cold cathode tubes now small 5w led strips can do it
damn thats one clean looking card, for these reason, white build HERE I COME
"Your white card will be a nice addition to my collection." Says Crypto Grievous
*GPU drought enters the chat and laughs at Crypto's joke*
I'm getting either this or a Vision G. Both are amazing looking cards
I love this channel, this is like my go to place when i want to get an idea of a product that i'm considering to buy. Thank you folks!
Unironically the only GPU review I've been interested to see in a long while, since it's actually interesting to hear about the whiteout process
Thanks for the science class concerning the colour white. From your explanation, I have nothing to worry about since my Spectral White 6700xt is sitting in my Thermaltake Snow White P3, while sunlight is bathing both.
Though you can't do much about the PCB, Exposure to intense UV light will whiten plastics up in short order. The backplate can always be powder coated if it yellows. Heat will be a big factor in yellowing as well. Been looking hard at the Gigabyte vision 3080 because I need nvenc.
Great work as usual from the PowerColor people, I'm really happy they went all in, white PCB just shows they have attention to detail.
I don't care if it goes yellow, this is so beautiful omg
Besides if you have RGB inside the case , you're not gonna notice the yellow coloring
Definitely buying this specific card when I have saved up enough. The current 1070 is past its prime and about to go to GPU heaven soon.
4:26 I think it's exactly how much we needed! TIL man, great segment ^^
~a random canadian subscriber dude
Nice review, sad on the "yellowing" of materials though. On another note, are you guys planning on going over the b560 series boards now that intel is going cheap?
Nice. Finally, been waiting a white Radeon. And also it has Radeon VII vibe for me...
I love the fact you made the bars white for the hellhound spectral white
After 7 month of good use (about 10h/day) with 24/7 shade, I can say the card isn't making any signs of yellowing whatsoever. Compared to other white products I used before this is very nice and high quality
(But I recommend turning off the 60°c cooler threshold on warmer days, but other than that is this a nice and chill gpu)
I'm ready tempted to downgrade from my reference RX6800 to this card just because it looks so nice!!! 👀
How are you getting such low hotspot temperature? At stock settings, my RX6700XT Red Devil hotspot reaches 96c and although it is well within spec, I still repasted it a whole lot of Artic MX-6 and now its max around 88c. Running an undervolt of -0.09mV takes it down to 84c max.
Oooh. It's pwetty! :D Not in the market for an upgrade though, and I'd have to hide most of the card in a full over waterblock anyway, but I totally appreciate when manufacturers release white components :)
Hi Steve, thanks for the review. May I interest you in making a Sapphire Pulse version of 6700 XT review? I recently got one and it has some interesting stuff. For example the card has a dual bios cut-out and written on the backplate but it does not have an actual switch despite the 5700 XT version had. This alone interests me enough to see if Sapphire has an answer for it. It also lacks the LED lights which 5700 XT version also had so plenty of "???" stuff going on.
I love how your graphs show it in white too
VRAM temps?? i feel that info would very nice to know for some of us, so kinda bummed out you did not mention it, especially with no thermal pads connected to the backplate to aid GDDR cooling.
I've got the black 6700XT Hellhound and according to HWiNFO64 the VRAM under full load is roughly the same temp as the GPU edge temp at roughly 60 degrees C. The GDDR6 (non-X) doesnt produce a lot of heat and the Hellhound has thermal pads on the VRAMs which transmit heat to the heatsink, the cooling design on the Hellhound is definitely sufficient for this card.
I've got the standard hellhound card. The switch on that simply turns the blue LEDs off - are you sure it's not the same here?
So. If it's exposed to enough light, the yellowing will holdoff longer/less?
@Hardware Unboxed Hi, my PowerColor RX 6700 XT Hellhound goes up to 95 degrees C hot spot temperature, mesured with CPUID HWMonitor. Is that a problem?
We need more white pcbs!
Regarding white hardware, I am sure that it would sell, at least in higher end market. I sell high end sff cases, and they sell around 45/55 white/black
Of course it's rare. Scalpers have them all.
100 years from now we will tell stories to the younger generation, about the great GPU drought of 2020 to 2030..
@@Ghastly10 oh god... 2030? This is going to be a hell of a decade!
Makes me wonder why all these you tubers make gpu review videos when it's impossible to buy a gpu?
@@peterpeter5666 then what should they do?
It very Well can be the whole decade! The crypto booms seems to remain strong!
Interesting presentation, but I would like to hear your opinion about my motherboard.
Could you explain why my Asus Z170-A Prime motherboard's white plastic parts are still clear white without any maintenance? Only done dust cleaning.
Sunlight and hydrogen peroxide seems to reverse the yellowing process, although UV lamps work as well. I wonder if you could rig up some black light in your rig to stop the yellowing?
What are the 2 rest vrm?
I mean the card should have 8+2 VRMm but on the PCB there is 12 phases.
Speaking of white PCBs, I would really wish wish for Sapphire to re-enter the motherboard market now that AMD has a complete package of high performance products, their white boards simply looked amazing!
White motherboard with Sapphire's devotion to cooling and power delivery? Sign me up!
So Hardware unboxed researched about what is paint made of and how the chemicals work just bcoz they have to make a video about white GPU
Thats a lot of dedication and preparation
Steve and Tim are generally the gold standard when it comes to thorough tech journalism. Where they pull ahead of the pack by a significant amount is in delivery. It is imho THE most pleasant channel when it comes to pacing and structuring the delivery of information in a logical and straight forward manner. It never feels "information overload", yet there is always plenty of perspective on how much or little a given thing matters in the real world.
Hardware unboxed is awesome love this channel more every day
PowerColor really seem to knock it out of the park with their entire Radeon lineup. If they're the first to jump on pumping out near-MSRP cards as soon as stock improves they could gain some serious mind/market share.
Man that is a beautiful videocard !! Always
A pretty good looking card that just might match my beard! Interesting idea for a build if I ever manage to get parts for. :)
The way Steve welcomes us back to hardware unboxed is the only thing we need in this pandemic.
Will you guys be covering the Enhanced Edition of Metro Exodus? I'd enjoy a deep dive into what the new edition's graphical settings do.
The new version (manufactured by ASROCK this time) of the NZXT N7 MoBo is ALL WHITE (well at least the metal covers are) and from what I have seen on other channel it's a pretty damn nice board... this would go VERY WELL with it :)
So sunlight exposure on white plastics slowdown the yellowing?
At 6:11, on top of the PCM, what is the conveyor direction?
Cool, does it come 'in stock'?
Neat. I like learning but I am curious how the sun actually keeps it white instead of causing the yellowing. It seems like this is well outside of the scope of this channel though.
Chill intro ngl
Is the yellowing semi-permanent or can UV light reverse it? I know peroxide could bleach it if strong enough, but wondering if light can as well.
UV light should reverse it, but peroxide can have funny side effects like brittle paint, or outright wonky color effects. I once tried it on the white base of a blender that had turned yellow. It whitened up right away, but after a couple of days it developed a very slight bluish green tint that was only visible in daylight. In electric light it still looked white...
If yellowing is an issue. Can’t they make it easy to disassemble to paint for a touch up?
Can't you just put LED strips inside your case that produce the similar effect of daylight on the the bottom of your case to prevent the yellowing from happening?
Please manufacturers make more white (maybe even other collors too) and put it on more accessible stuff, not only the high end ones, btw good job regarding that PowerColor, they're just beautiful and we need more variation
If I use UV RGB lighting, will it stay white inside my case? (/s)
Thank you for this review. Any chance of reviewing new B550 offering from Asus - ProArt Creator? It's the first ever AMD B550 motherboard with Thunderbolt 4/USB4 ports. It does not seem to be officially certified by Intel, as yet, like X570 ITX last year, but it's interesting enough. Also, the number of capacitors is not that big, so could this motherboard OC well 5900X?
Does anyone know if the yellowing is also a possibility when using white vinyl wrap?
This or the red devil which is clocked higher?
Is that definitely a dual BIOS switch? On my standard 6700 XT Hellhound it's just to switch the LEDs off.
2 things: 1) Another big factor in yellowing of any plastic or paint, is heat. Inside a PC case, that's very long term, extended or constant exposure.
2) What were the OC results like? IMO the ability to overclock easily, deliver power, and good cooling / noise profile, is an essential core feature you're paying for (often a lot too), when buying premium versions of GPUs, motherboards and relevant CPUs the last 5++ years. There are exceptions of course, but thinking generally. There really isn't all that much out-of-the-box, bone stock configured performance difference between the different models, because there's _not supposed_ to be. Where the real differences lie (re; mentioned exceptions), is in the cooling and overclocking. That's not just my own thinking, the manufacturers apparently do so too, sinking a lot of budget into that, and actively encouraging its use so much as to polish the tools to do so, and even putting overclock(ing) or OC right in the product name.
I didn't even start the video yet but I came to say o m g this white gpu is gorgeous
Any update about the color becoming yellow?
In the pcb the same as the fighter version?
I found one of these for 495
But I have an all black rig lol
I have a sapphire nitro 5700 xt
Is it worth it?
Just ordered the black version on Amazon, and definitely I stick with the black version. Blue lighted fans and best painting resistance.
just got one for 700usd! def more expensive than i want but in the current climate we are in and it matches my build perfectly and thats worth a couple hundred right?
That looks sleek!
Came for the GPU review, stayed for the explanation on why white PC parts are so rare. Seriously, that is an eye-opener for me.
Speaking of fully white motherboards, our choice is so barren the only fully white motherboard I know (at least on AMD's side) is MSI's Arctic and Titanium, and those two are old B350 / X370 platforms. Here's hoping manufacturers would step up their game and offer an updated all-white models.
In the meantime, I'll be staying with my Vega 56 that I painted white years ago.
I just got one at MicroCenter.
*GORGEOUS*
why is no one talking about how good the XFX card is, it was one of the cheaper aftermarket cards and is much better than the others.
Agreed!! I have the XFX and an Asus Tuf. The xfx performance is too notch, but was much cheaper.
@@stylepoint1200 And I have not seen one tech CZcamsr mention it yet, it is strange.
The difference between hellhounds might also be mounting pressure or thermal paste
Is a water block available for this card?
would you like to not own that in white or black?
Hopefully they continue this going forward, would love to snag one with RDNA3.
Will there be a 6800xt/6900xt variant of this?
Whats the length on this card?
These cards look really nice in a mining rack with 20 others.
xDDDDDD 48-50 MH/s @ 80W
The white pcb is the cheery on top
Would love to build an all white pc someday
I need one for my all-white build!
price currently in august 2022?
Isn't the NZXT N7 B550 motherboard both white and recent?
What about noise levels in games?
This was officially launched by powercolor, where is it listed??
And here i was, hoping to build a network of contacts so that, when GPU availability normalizes, that maybe I could import a Galaxy HOF edition. For aesthetics, and the ridiculous level of engineering behind them, a HOF would have been a beautiful addition to my latest build and fit the theming.
I didn't even think AMD _allowed_ a white edition of their Radeon cards until you showed this video, this morning. Looking at it, i only wish there was a 6800XT version as well.
I want a Galax hof 3090 as well, but only to play with it on ln2!
Come for the video card review, stay for the science lesson. Thanks for both! 👍
Will I be able to buy this for reasonable prices (MSRP) within the upcoming 6-9 months? If not, thanks for your review, but at it feels kinda wasted on me :/ I have learned a lot about white hardware though lol
Do you mean aib msrp or amd msrp. Most likely you can allready get this near msrp (aib msrp) amd msrp most likely newer…
Currently its $388 in my country, watching rn to decide, man white cards are pretty rare for radeons
Random crazy thought that is probably wrong... Black absorbs and White reflects, could this account for the temp differences?
Not unless he was testing with the sun blaring right at it. Fun fact though: Black is also the best at radiating heat.
I'm I the only person that would be all in for an all chromophore episode of unboxed?
Okay the white in the blue bar graph looks P H E N O M E N A L !
The video doesn't mention that the fans light up blue. But there is a switch to turn the fan lighting off.
That white PCB looks sweet as!
Next video: "Taking out my white GPU on a walk"
This paired with the msi b360 arctic , and all white aio, ram and case would looks absolutely stunning
I just wondered why my white Arctic BioniX P120 cooler fan became yelowish. Now I have an answer lol
Black basically can contrast all spectrums of colour a lot better than white, black adds more focus on colour and accents as white usually just absorbs any RGB and floods the interior with reflection.
White eventually yellows and gets stained more easily than black.
This would work great for my white build... but it will be impossible to find I'm sure.
Damn I want this card! Shame I can't get it anywhere, unless I want to pay way more than other 6700XT's. Love the white bar on the graphs!
