What I learned from this is…good footwork is needed and don’t kick unless you have a setup
Kicking is fine if it’s a body kick or hard enough head kick they won’t risk getting caught with a shin most people will shell up

One was a body kick that folded my opponent quick not even 10 second into the fight and the dude considered himself a boxer cause he trained at a gym . Another was lowkick into lead hook combo that dude was out cold . Mind you all my opponents outweighed me .

I’m not sure how familiar you are with checking leg kicks Cra, and I know you were trying to limit injury too, but an option to utilize superior boxing in kickboxing is to counterpunch combination off a check and keep the fight close rather than giving up ground and only working from the outside.
Only thing you need to worry from there is exiting out and watching for counter kicks.
Weight class matters too of course. So I get not wanting to scrap in the inside too much too.
