How to Turn a Large Sock into a Tiny Dog Sweater

All you need is an oversize sock to whip up an adorable sweater for a tiny dog.
Step 1: Put on his hat
Take the toe piece and put it on his head, pulling his ears through the slits.
Step 2: Go for a walk
Take him for a walk so he can show off his spiffy new outfit.
Step 3: Remove the top
Cut off the top of the sock, the part with the elastic, and discard.
Step 4: Cut a slit
Lay the sock on a flat surface so that it's in the shape of a "J." Fold the heel over and make a one-inch cut through both layers. Unfold and enlarge the slits if necessary so your dog's legs will fit through.
Tip
Roll down the top of the sock to make a turtleneck.
Step 5: Cut the toe
Cut off the toe of the sock, just past the seam. Fold the open edge over about an inch and make a small slit through both layers. Unfold and enlarge the slits if necessary to fit over your dog's ears.
Step 6: Dress your dog
Slide the sock over your dog’s body so that the top of the sock is around his neck. Pull his two front legs through the slits you cut in the heel of the sock.

How effing adorable I'm gonna borrow a pair of my husband's socks. He'll never notice. And even if he does, mama always said it's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission. I was surprised this worked. I happened to have a large fluffy sock and it worked. Sad to say the sock is pink and white and Ralphie is a boy but he doesn't know. It is nice and snug and now he is warm. Ralphy is a very small Chihuahua, 6 pounds or less, I don't think any larger dog would work. Even fluffier might not work.
Worked like a charm for my 4 month old chahuahua. Husband had plenty of worn out size 13 socks. Thank you!

One time my wife and I were visiting her mom and dad over Thanksgiving. While we were there a snowstorm blew in, and my father in law took a "monkey sock" and cut it to fit our yorkie, haha:-).
This worked perfectly! Had a huge random fluffy sock & did this for my Pomeranian/Papillon mix after his spring shave down. Still some chilly days left & he now is warm & extra adorable. Thanks!!

Making the 1 inch cut for the legs almost made one big hole. I'll try again making 1/2 inch slit. Also I didn't cut enough of the toe off so we didn't get a hat. I'll keep trying till I run out of socks. lol

thank you for sharing this idea...I've got a tiny 4lb, 6 week old Shih-Tzu who shivers out in the cold while potty training him, I just made him one of these sweaters from a fuzzy sock and he no longer shivers. Finding tiny sweaters in the stores is impossible. This will work til he gets bigger.

I have a Yorky-Chihuahua-Mix and her fur is so thin. Our winters are too cold for her to go out without any cloth. I tried it and it just has the perfect size. ;)

Sometimes small dogs DO need clothing, especially during the winter season. Something like this is very practical and cheap. It doesn't make the dog look like a poorly-dressed fashion reject, yet it also gives warmth.
This is a great idea.
However, when it comes to stupidly expensive and pointless dog garments... That is over the top.
You can also do this for a bigger Chihuahua like my 3kg chihuahua just use a sleeve from a sweater or a leg from a pair of pants!
