    Of note, Seth, due to the way that the mechanics were changed in Lord of the Rings, the amass mechanic was changed, so anytime you amass, all of the counters go on the same token, and Dreadhorde Invasion specifically turns it into a zombie, meaning you can easily get a giant army token that is a zombie, which will also trigger the second side of Dreadhorde Invasion to make the 6+ power token lifelinking. Between the equipment that equips cheaper to a token and the additional amass card, I think the opponent was building into an army theme for their particular Sauron deck.

    I think Ovika was criminally under rated as an overcost izzet legend. It came out in the same set as Graaz, and you can just fill your deck with ramp, card draw, and polymorphs to murder people with 20 5/3's on turn 5-7. Even if Graaz gets removed, there's some sick backup wincons like stryxhaven stadium that make the deck go brrrrrrr into a nice short game.

  • @nathanialshicks
    @nathanialshicks Před 3 měsíci +1

    In terms of budget, being singleton means you’ll passively collect or craft a lot of these staple cards anyways playing arena and you have access to every mana base you’ve ever used.
    It does require some grinding, (and sometimes some rare drafting) but it’s not like you’re burning playsets of niche wildcards. If you need to substitute a card you don’t want to craft, you’ll draw it less often also.
    Good to have one-of playables for midrange piles, midweek magic singleton, and gladiator too.

    been playing urabrask in brawl, and i think he's a great budget commander. all you need is basic mountains and red cantrips/burn spells. i spent 1 mythic on blood moon, which wins games on its own--the rest is pretty much random commons and uncommons that cantrip, scry, deal damage, or buff creatures for sneaky early combat wins. i usually win turn 5.

  • @Tinil0
    @Tinil0 Před 3 měsíci +1

    I consider it budget. As a newer-ish player who is EXTREMELY collection locked when it comes to making decks, pretty much all brawl decks feel budget due to only needing 1 of each card. Yes, I "should" be spending these rare wildcards on building up a standard friendly manabase first, but getting up single copies of important cards still feels very nice. You feel like you are accomplishing something by getting that first copy compared to crafting a 3rd and 4th copy for a 60-card format deck.

    Well as somebody who owns two Klyox (one in both art styles) from random pulls I have to say I'm delighted to see you make it work in Brawl! Gives me some hope of trying to find a recipe that works in actual Commander.
    So a rule of thumb I use for determining if a deck qualifies as budget is: does the land base consist of mostly tap lands or does the rare ratio out number the mythic ratio. The other thing that can work instantly is "what rarity is my commander". For example most people think all Urza Decks are anti budget but there's always Powerstone Prodigy who is uncommon and probably THE HARDEST ONE to make work XD Like you can toss in a bunch of broken stuff and even then somehow he'll still find a way to be the worst Urza most of the time. At least in Brawl you can kind of redeem him with Alchemy Prototypes.

    Staples work a little different for the purposes of budget on Arena, since you don't want extra copies of stuff like pricey lands like with a paper EDH deck, so if you're getting into the format, it's almost always correct to craft part of a fetch/shock manabase whenever you get the chance. Maybe only pay too much mind to non-lands and give a little flexibility where stuff like Bolt that goes in every deck that can play it is concerned?

    I actually think Brawl is pretty budget-friendly just because it's a singleton deck. You don't need to spend four wildcards for a playset of a card you'll only play in one deck, but you find a collection of cards you can use in multiple decks instead. So I think year, 30 rares for this deck is pretty budget-okay.

    Also I would consider a copy of Introduction to Annihilation in this deck. You rightfully pointed out that Izzet has a lot of trouble dealing with Enchantments, and the Lesson gives you an out to that.
    Since Budget Magic is 20% of the list (if you count sideboards - 15/75) or 25% (if you don't count them - 15/60), I would assume a Budget Brawl deck still falls in that same range, so in the 20-25 Rares+Mythics range.

The fact that they don't - but Common duals do! - makes them feel like SUCH a feel bad to me. I might as well replace them with, idk.. Fabled Passage or Terramorphic Expanse or something similar! Snarls can tap for either colour when you need it and can potentially enter untapped, so I'd rather have that over a Pathway any day.

    Considering the size of a brawl vs other constructed formats (100 vs 60 or 75), and the budget limit (15) as a percentage in those formats (25 or 20 percent), I wouldn't consider 29 rare budget. That's not even factoring the less competitive nature of brawl, which would lead me to consider 20 rares/mythics the limit on a historic brawl deck.

  • @WikiED

      The problem with 1000 year storm is that it's an enchantment. He plays a lot of expensive instants and sorceries because he has ways of casting them for free. 1000 year storm costs too much and doesn't synergize with his combo in a way that's worth sacrificing a card slot for it instead of a spell that'll add to his storm count, especially since his spells don't storm well without his combo due to their price. The biggest downside of 1000 year storm is that it just happens to be the worst card type for storming, Necropotence being an exception to this rule.

    honestly the purposefully bad mana-base kind of makes it a little less entertaining I think people know if they want to make a more budget version they should look at the manabase first but I guess maybe to not misrepresent what your showcasing it's a necessary evil regardless good video I just get disappointed when easily castable cards are uncastable and the manabase being so tapped for little reason

    at 9:18 why not Mind's Desire and then Expansion it?

      Expansion can only copy a cmc 4 or less. Even if it could though, the copy isn’t cast so instead it’s better to draw 2 make 2 treasure in case the minds desire just hits another land

    "You can get away with playing cheaper cards" nah, you cant. People are more sweaty and tryhard on Arena than even in Vintage.

    I find the idea of doing budget Historic Brawl to be an absolute nerf for you. You go in there with all the cards you've collected and try to have either a degen combo deck, something insane, or whatever. So hearing you do budget for this format makes no sense, just like an old school player limiting themselves with EDH.

    In my opinion budget for historical brawl should be :
    At most 6 mythic
    At most 12 rare
    Around 24 uncommon
    Around 48 common
    At least 10 basic lands

    Was playing some historic brawl this morning and opponent rush Planeswalker Ral ultimate with the deal 4 damage to target emblem whenever you cast a spell. Unfortunately they didn’t respect my leyline of sanctity and I chose not to play anything targetable so they ended up killing themselves
