    Dr Noaks changed South Africa a few years ago. People went crazy for "banting" 100s of people started banting and changed their lives. He made it simple and easy to understand. I myself am truly grateful to him for teaching me that eating doesn't have to consume your every thoughts all day.
    I moved away from keto and am now carnivore which does great for me. But it all started with this man being brave enough to go against everything everyone believed.

      If you don't mind me asking, why did you go from keto to carnivore? I've looked at both and am considering keto. My uncle went carnivore and dropped 30 pounds in 3 months and is now within 5 pounds of his goal weight. That being said, carnivore doesn't have much flexibility while keto does allow more variety for eating.

      @RickySpanish12344 I'm lazy. 🤦‍♀️ I work hospitality. Long hours and constant go. Butter coffee in the morning and a big fat steak somewhere in the day. Life sorted. Keto is good. But the cravings and wanting something yum never goes away. Carnivore makes you look at only meat as food after a while. Even veggies don't seem like food to me anymore. So the variety need just fades on its own.
      I tried it by default. And the weirdest things happened. I was always healthy and I love gym. So it's not a weight thing. But my energy, mood, sense of smell, dark circles, sleep, dry skin... without wanting it to... just improved.
      I'll tell you the negative though. If you go strict Carnivore... when you do introduce other things back in. Even spices... you body is NOT your friend. Hahahaha
      But try it for 7 days. Its pretty cool to see yourself at peak performance just because.

      @@natashamcclintock1324 your body isn’t your friend when you introduce others foods because you are not used to it. Especially fibre. You lack the diversity of gut microbes to be able to break it down and it results in the most awful digestive discomfort. It doesn’t make sense to me to only eat meat. It does make sense that you feel better though but I don’t believe it is the result of omitting carbohydrates and other foods. More so that you are eating less, losing weight, stabilising blood sugar and insulin, exercising more, have less stress about food in general, get a lot of bioavailable nutrients from meat that you weren’t getting before. It’s not exclusively due to you cutting out carbs. You might have felt just as healthy on a clean Mediterranean diet for example.

      @Caliban071 nothing you say is incorrect and I know all of this... you must understand though... I have always been healthy. Iv never been overweight and have been athletic all my life. I didn't go from sad to carnivore or banting. I went from green smoothie queen and brown rice, chicken breast and broccoli to banting. I can't stick to just meat anyway, it was a good test, i saw great results and most days i just eat a steak, not every day though. But I can tell you... if I was overweight or sickly... I would use carnivore for a year to reset my body.

      I agree. It’s a good reset tool. I’m very lean and don’t have the fat to sustain my energy levels and can’t get enough fat in the day to mitigate this. I lose too much weight and look Ill.

    I had wholegrains and fruits, not junks, but they still make me sick and obese. Now I eat mostly animal based foods and I feel healthier than ever.

      Same with me, used to be mostly vegetarian but that made me sick as I got older, went low carb animal based foods diet at age 56 now at 60 I'm healthier and more athletic that ever !

      He has a really interesting history. Australia tried to take his medical license away for espousing the low-carb lifestyle. He was victorious in the end but they tried really hard to ruin his life.

    I met Tim in about 2010 in Durban just before the trials attempted to silence him. Fantastic guy without a selfish bone in his body IMHO. Humble and knowledgeable.
    What he and a handful of others have managed to do is amazing for human suffering and health. I would put him forward for a Nobel prize!

    After almost a year on keto I had to quit. No matter how much salt, Electrolytes or vitamins I took, my muscles always felt weak, especially during exercise.
    Don't get me wrong. It was great losing weight and I'm sure some people thrive with it. But my body simply can't adapt to it. So I switched to Paleo and started adding fruit and Immediately my muscles felt great. And I'm not even heavy on carbs, just added 50-100g of carbs daily and my body is thanking me for that. No need to eat rice or pasta, just 2-3 fruits and it's a game changer. Fruit is good.

      That's correct. Fruit is amazing and so many other carbohydrates given to us by nature are too. Its ridiculous when people say that the human body wasn't made to handle carbs when it's the bodies main fuel source by converting these into glucose.

      Glucose is the primary fuel. It’s so critical that the body can synthesize it when carbohydrate intake from whole foods is inadequate.

      @@swanseaboy76 i disagree that it is the bodies main fuel source. Remember our bodies can produce glucose. This implies carbohydrate as a "fuel" is a 'as needed', not a primary. Personally, given prehistoric diets of pre-historic man, makes sense we are adapted for fat storage, and fat burning. Carbs is more of a stimulant, because naturally our bodies don't have it, and just creates what it needs, a kind of catalyst for certain metabolic needs. So, my opinion, modern society has been snorting the equivalent of crack for the last 70 years and all the metabolic health issues that have arisen is the result.
      i'm not advocating no carbs, but keep them low. no more than 100g a day. depends on your activities and personal metabolism ofcourse, but typical sedentary office work/management level person should not exceed that.

      @@ericaugust1501 yes I agree that it's best to keep carbs low, otherwise it's like priming a lawn mower with too much fuel. I don't think it's a good idea to completely remove carbs though, especially if you regularly participate in high intensity exercise.

      @@elkpaz560 same! I’ve had so much trouble losing extra weight caused by my medication. Within a like 1 1/2 years I was only able to drop 13 pounds. Now after being on keto for one month I’ve dropped 10 pounds. My ketones have remained hardly existent I will add, I stopped worrying about my ketones level because by going keto over cut out ALOT of food choices. I feel fine, Not tired, Not weak etc. no bad side effects. I stoped worrying so much about my ketone levels because when you only eat 20-30 carbs at the most a day, you’re going to lose weight either way. I eat FAR more fatty foods than I ever have and I eat way more calories than I ever have and I’m still losing weight.

    I was 250 pounds about 3 years ago. I got rid of carbs and added sugar and now weigh 145. I didn't follow a certain diet. I put down the pizza, cupcakes and soda.

      @@SamirNYC It depends, it depends, and it depends. Basically, they need to be natural and not ultra processed. We wouldn't like sugar so much if we didn't have need for it; Many of our systems operate on sugar, and though we can convert fats and proteins into sugar, we can certainly absorb it too. The problem is refined sugar, and way too much of it. It's easier to find fats and proteins in the wild, but our ancestors would not have eaten a lot of carbs until the agricultural revolution. Grains have been gathered for a long time, and are fine in their whole forms, but bleached grains are a problem. Same with oils; All earlier civilizations used a lot of oils, but they weren't refined oils.

      @@johnp7739 I used to feel this way, and now I eat 3-4 slices of french toast every morning (using plain white bread). Over the last 5 years I went from 230 and fat to as low as 6% body fat. Over-restriction leads to binges for me - moderation does not.

Ironically I broke a pretty decent streak of low-carb eating with packaged sweet oatmeal and peanut butter last night and it wasn't pretty (and didn't stop there). Moderation doesn't work for some of us.

      @@supirman Yeah I had the binges too. And trying to allow myself some carbs every now and then and some foods that I love but are not that great keeps me from binging as much which in the end helps me lose more weight and stay more healthy so it's a tradeoff.
      Now when I notice that I'm really starting to crave more carbs again then I'll allow myself to eat them for 1-2 days and will feel great again and then I can usually go back to more keto/low carb for a week or so before I start craving again.
      And usually when I got the cravings I went completely overboard and now I'm moderating it more and that seems to work better at least.

      So doing some research into Noakes revealed why. He has a much higher tolerance for carbs because... he's on metformin. Self-prescribed daily dosage of 2000mg, that reduces intestinal glucose absorption, so he's basically just eating the biscuit and sweet potato for taste.

      Except he hasn't done any research, he came up with a theory, applied it to himself (and failed, by the way, because in addition to his diet and exercise, he admitted to a self-prescribed 2000mg of metformin and other supplements to manage his diabetes in a 2016 interview, which he conveniently leaves out on his social media tour), has a long history of being criticized by the researchers he misquotes to support his claims that sugar causes cancer, and that cancer can be cured by going on a keto diet (despite the fact he's aware the liver produces a glucose when you go into a ketogenic state, so it's literally impossible to starve cancer).
      I do low carb, I'm not criticizing it, but he is a very troubled character with a terrible track record.

      Correct me if I’m wrong. During ketosis the body only makes glucose to feed Red blood cells
      Kidney medulla, testicles and the brain needs a little. Cancer cells can’t use ketones and will be starved of glucose. So in theory yes it could kill cancer. Correct? I believe there are studies that show this.

      At the beginning of the video Dr. Noakes said he had "biscuits and butter" for breakfast and then he said for dinner he is having "chicken and sweet potatoes". Someone needs to tell this so called doctor that biscuits and sweet potatoes are carbohydrates.

      @@dontfit6380 That's the theory, but think about what's feeding tumors: blood. Blood that will always have glucose in it.
      It's important to understand what the physiological changes are to our cells when we go into ketosis; our body signals to most of the cells to start preferring ketones over glucose, so when the blood is using _and_ transporting glucose around the system, our normal cells aren't immediately snatching the free glucose away and accidentally starving the cells that can't use ketones.
      Cancer doesn't care, it's going to steal all the glucose it comes across, and going into ketosis means we've reduced the available glucose supply, but we've also just signaled for most of our body to not compete with cancer for what little glucose there is. The cancer will keep spreading like a wildfire, the parts furthest from the blood supply will probably starve and die out, but it's not going to stop the parts closest to the blood supply to continue spreading.
      Now _maybe_ this means you can slow down the cancer, but you'll never be able to fully starve it; it's just going to keep growing until a small clump of cancer cells break off, gets swept away by the blood stream, and winds up where all blood cells eventually do: your liver, Glucose Central, the all-you-can-eat promised land of cancer cells. At that point it doesn't matter what diet you're on, you've bought a one-way ticket to liver failure and there are no refunds.
      Theory aside, what's important is where are the studies showing that keto is more effective than chemo at curing cancer? There are none, it's literally too unethical to perform a study like that, so all the quacks who promote it rely on petri/lab rat studies and testimonials by a handful of randos. And a lack of testimonials by all the people who *died.* Yay for unethical, population-wide, unsupervised, unregulated human testing.

      The real evil is processed sugary foods. Whole organically grown plants are very healthy, especially those lower in the glycemic index. For me personally, I don’t really care if it’s too high carb, as long it’s whole and organically grown. There are very few people who have a problem with high carb if it’s an organically grown vegetable or fruit. These people usually have a wack gut micro biome from consuming a limited amount of foods, such as processed sugars (bread, snacks, desserts, etc), as well as a large quantity of meats and little whole plant foods. The goal should be to build up your gut micro biome with probiotics and slowly introducing whole plant foods.

      @@JoeARedHawk275 - there are many who have been vegan for years, who haven’t eaten junk food who became bloated and sick with autoimmune. They were eating only the best fruits and veg, and weren’t eating processed food, so it’s not always due to sugar and meat. In fact, these people often become carnivores and heal everything they experienced while being vegan, so it is not the meat at all. Check out Steak and Butter Gal, Nutrition with Judy, or Dr. Rimka. They are only just three of the vegans who went carnivore.

    I was watching a video about a woman who was captured by the Souix In 1864. She said their diet was almost exclusively meat and they may fast one day and eat meat frequently all the next day. They skinned bison so completely it looked like the bone had been boiled. They dried the meat immediately and it was hung and dried covered with dirt and dung.

    I have to thank Thomas not because of good information but because of the information of saying it’s okay to eat or these different foods which started me getting cravings for more and more of foods that push you out of eating healthy. So thank you as it made me find carnivore and now it’s been a year and I felt great from the time I started and still do.

    I'm no athlete but since switching to 100% carnivore 6 months ago, my recovery at 56yo is greatly improved after a heavy exercise session, got down 32lbs to my 30yo weight but regain much of my muscle mass with little effort. When I was on SAD, I HAD TO give myself a day or two to recover from a heavy exercise session and muscle gains were not that huge. Now I can exercise daily and only rest on Sunday. Thank you for a great interview. It totally agrees with what I'm experiencing.

    Prof Noakes's lifestyle enabled me to lose 24kg's and for the first time in my adult life I'm at my goal-weight! I mainly eat ground beef, eggs, ostrich meat, some butter and take no medications or supplements. I only eat one meal a day. Great discussion!

      @@SimplicityForGood I can't even recall when last I visited a doctor or had any tests done and I'm 61yrs old. I rely on my body to give me signs. I'm 95% carnivore as I drink coffee with milk and have a chocolate once a week. My only advice if you are carnivore is to eat until you are full as it's easy in the beginning to eat too little. Perhaps start with 2 meals a day and see how you do. All the best to you!

    I started on Carnivore on November 27, 2023. My blood glucose constantly exceeded 18.3. Today, December 28, 2023, it tested at just 5.6!! 🥩 2:50 am. OMAD followed naturally, I just don't want to eat for a day after a small steak or leg of lamb chop. I also lost >5kg over this month. Feel healthy again. Beautiful yellow morning urine. I sleep well, no leg cramps, no restless legs. No insomnia.

    I’m very carb sensitive too. People tell me as long as I’m within my daily calorie intake, I should be able to consume breads and pasta even twice a day or even once a day. If I do that, I tend to hang on to fat and even increase it on my body. If I eat low carbs, my body responds better.

      I was absolutely addicted to bread, pasta, crackers, cookies, chips, potatoes. Without question, I was physically addicted. Every hunger impulse I had was a false signal triggered by desire for a fresh hit of dopamine, regardless of whether I needed nourishment. Since 1/8/24, I’ve cut ALL grain, sugar, starch, and seed/vegetable oil. I eat only meat and its fat, fish, dairy, eggs, green veg, low glycemic fruit, monounsaturated oils, and nuts. After I detoxed from carbs, I became fat adapted. Now I eat to satiety and never experience hunger or cravings unless my body actually needs nourishment. I’ve dropped 80lbs of fat. My blood pressure has normalized. My doctor has taken me off statins and blood pressure meds. I no longer need reflux meds. I haven’t healed because I lost weight; I’ve lost weight because I’ve healed. Don’t tell me carbs are not addictive. I know better.

    Understanding that glucose is stored in the liver and then released when you try to go keto is so important to understand. Watching Dr. Boz I realized why even though I fasted for 5 days straight my glucose went UP for 4 of the 5 days. Sardines made a huge difference to me.

      @@dianasolfest7237 I had thyroid cancer stage 3 with lymph nodes affected too, did 2 surgeries and RAI. Had massive side effects and RAI just provoked more cancer in me. I denied a 2nd round of RAI and did less than 5% keto for 3 months. Didn’t have cancer again after that.

    I discovered my inflammation was caused by chemicals in food as well as gluten and sugar. The chemicals I identified and avoid include artificial sweeteners(diet soda gave me swollen joints)and herbicides. I lost stubborn weight after I switched to mostly organic foods. My blood pressure dropped too.Also much lower carbs and more healthy fat though not too much, and walk every day.

    Great interview! Thank you gentlemen. After trying both keto and carnivore I've found some carbs do help. Fruit and honey mostly with occasional rice, Italian pasta or sweet potato. I work out enough and stick to my plan enough that I will have some snacks on the weekend, as I think a balance is good for maintaining long term. Gotta enjoy life too!

    I have friends 10 years younger than me that are diabetic obese have arthritis, fibromyalgia I mean the list goes on and on and they are on multiple medication’s. The only reason I am on warfarin is because of occlusive DVT blood clot in 2007. I have no blood flow in my deep vein back to my heart and to keep me from having a secondary blood clot we’ve got me on warfarin other than that I have perfect blood pressure. My lipids are great and at 64 I am on nothing else and my 54 year old friends are wasting away and killing themselves, and it’s all from the food they eat. I have tried to be an influence, but they simply will not listen.

    You guys Aced it! I did a low carb keto diet for 6 years after being 16.5 stone. I dropped to 12.5 stone. I have returned on a carb diet for 2 years now and weight has maintained, I reversed my dads type 2 diabetes with it. You describe a problem I had with training with carb creep in the morning, or morning dawn phenomenon. I only get it when lifting weights. Tried 3 times to solve it without effect. Basically Morning fasted Glucose is too high then I eat fat and it drops. But the longer I do this the higher it goes. I did find a video on Stephen Phinney saying he only knows to refeed which I have and it fixes it but as soon as you start ketosis again you are fine but if you train you get close to getting knocked out of ketosis in the morning. It is self repeating and I am curious if you solved it?
    I tried MCT oil before training, did not work, tried MCT with 50gram of glucose before training, did not work!
    Also regarding saturated fat you will be happy to know that it cant enter the blood stream when in ketosis! And in my opinion your blood lipids will go higher and not lower, but it is all the protective ones so total cholesterol means nothing!
    If you want my DATA I have recorded and will share!

      Whoever told you saturated fat cannot enter the bloodstream in ketosis, is lying to you. This is utter nonsense.
      If it could not, you would not function. This is probably the stupid comment I've read today. Maybe even this week.
      You store way more fat during ketosis, but you also burn more fat.
      You store less fat when using a balanced diet. But also burn less.
      It's all balance. What will ALWAYS matter is energy ingestion vs energy expenditure.
      Also, if you have heart disease in the genes, you have to stay away from sat fat like the plague.
      Each person is different but the all cause mortality studies are quote clear, saturated fat is not great when over consumed for CVD.
      Ketosis should only really be considered for those wanting to reverse type 2 diabetes, type 1 diabetes and those looking to improve HBA1C markers. Simple.

The Egyptians were known as etophigoi, the bread eaters. They all had dental caries and all had diseases of high levels of estrogen. Most men had gynocomastia. At some point the carbs catch up to you and they are the cause of heart disease. Not the saturated fats. The ancestors who were hypercarnivores eating huge amounts of meat and huge amounts of fat did not have heart disease. Anthropologists are clear on this. But seems like most people, MDs included, are ignorant of the latest conclusions by anthropologists.

Since saturated fat intake has decreased to 1/3 what we ate 100 years ago and heart disease went through the roof during that time, tells us it’s not the issue. Saturated fat has decreased in the last 20 years yet the rate of CVD has doubled and diabetes rate increased by 4.5x!!!! This alone eliminates Sat fat as the cause. If anything it’s evidence it could be the cure.

    Great interview. I let myself go after years of good health. My middle grew, my skin and features changed and dark circles aged me.
    It was my own fault I trained less, consumed alcohol and ate a hi carb diet.
    A month ago I purchased a well respected mct c8 keto oil, stopped drinking alcohol and ditched the carbs in favour of steak, eggs, sausages, bacon etc.
    I do 3 heavy weight sessions with bench press every week and walk everywhere.
    I'm 62 and feel like a 30 year old. My dark circles have gone and my skin quality and face shape have drastically improved.
    Don't allow nay sayers to deflect you. Most people will compliment you on your appearance but some will warn you of the dangers of hybrid keto carnivore diets. Usually they're the ones that look very unhealthy.
    One of the benefits of MCT C8 is that it seems to quickly eradicate cravings for unhealthy foods.

    In my view Noakes, Phinney and Volek are the most important researchers in metabolism of our time.

    Wow! Such an incredible interview. I'm a 19 year old, I used to be an elite Rhythmic Gymnast and going low carb assisted my athletic performance exceptionally. Some days I would train for 8 hours with only a 1 hour break and I couldn't have done it without Keto. I never got injuries, I recovered quickly and I had great mental clarity.
    I stopped gymnastics this year but I continue to train with the same intensity without additional carbohydrates. I never count calories, because once you switch to real food, your cravings completely disappear.
    As you both mentioned long term health is key- thank you for this extremely educational interview!

      Now try adding good carbs* with lots of fibers in your diet.
      You'll have similar results with a much more pleasurable easy to maintain balanced diet.
      You are too young to be restricted to these fad diets.
      *basically Mediterranean diet carbs

    I was strictly keto for over a year and down to one meal daily. Then, I started working out again, running and strength training. I was concerned keto wasn't my best approach, and I worked with a board-certified dietician that encouraged me to eat frequently and increased my carbohydrate intake significantly. After starting carbs in earnest, I immediately gained weight, mostly water weight, but some muscle gain from strength training and running. I still eat organic and healthy, but more or less ignored my keto eating principles to follow "dietician's orders." It took some adjusting, and I never felt very good eating the 420 grams of carbs recommended to me and eventually backed off somewhat. I don't really count calories or macros, but as a lifelong athlete, I am in tune with when I need to eat and when to back off. Unfortunately, running (I am 55) has exacerbated my knees and hips, so I can hardly continue. My goal was to be able to run ~ four miles regularly, and the pain radiating from my hip and knees began to hobble me once I increased my training volume. My dietician said the carb and protein intake would help recover, build muscle, and prevent injury. Still, I believe the wear and tear from being a 120-day-per-year skier, physical labor, etc., means that running is not suitable for me to exercise. When I ride bikes, everything is fine. My confusion comes from diet. I think that for an athlete training six days per week that OMAD is tough. I felt like I was cannibalizing lean muscle mass and at the least needed more calories per day. But Dr. Noakes talks about a biscuit, sweet potatoes, etc., and seemingly isn't strictly keto. I've consumed massive amounts of data from all sides of the nutritional spectrum and am more confused than ever. When I was a competitive cyclist, I fueled with a lot of the "science" food containing maltodextrin, whey, and soy protein, etc., with horrendous results. I've done ok on long-distance mountain bike rides fasted on keto, only consuming electrolytes, and I have performed reasonably well using carbs. Although, I have never done well with the 60-80 grams of carb per hour routine that the fitness world espouses. For reference, most of my bigger mountain bike rides are 3-5 hours. Thomas, I love your channel and content, but the more I watch, the more I am confused. I believe everybody is different, and what works for me might not work for someone else. But, I am also hesitant to believe my dietician entirely because it feels very much like talking to doctors about statin drugs. They all say it is safe and necessary, but nobody will stray from the script for individual needs nor admit the known side effects. I am very good about sticking to a plan, but the older I get, the less I believe it is imperative to be so strict about food choices. I do not drink alcohol, do not eat any added sugar, stay away from a lot of sweet fruits and stick mostly to berries. One well-known doctor that advertises like crazy that we all know of talks about the evils of lectins, but lately, I have leaned on quinoa and steel cut oats for carbs without issue. Lastly, I am not looking to lose weight, I just want to eat healthy and perform my physical activities well. What is the balance for an active athlete!?

      I am a good cyclist and i perform well on high carb. But my metal health and my bowels suffer on high carb.

      Since I posted this, I have replaced all my running workouts with cycling, and my knees feel great. So much for the "you can run at any age" crowd. I've also embraced eating when I feel like it and not following the strict three meals per day with snacks protocol that my dietician suggested. I haven't lost weight, which was never my goal, but I have added muscle and lost midsection fat. I look and feel stronger and fitter. While eating carbs regularly, I am far from the massive amounts suggested. I still eat a lot of vegetables, but I do not try to eat massive amounts like I did on healthy keto. I have also increased my protein intake. On lighter eating days, I may cut carbs almost entirely, but I still eat a lot of protein. My meat protein is salmon, sardines, anchovies, or grass-fed/finished burger primarily. I also eat at least three eggs per day.
      While I do not fault dieticians and doctors for having guidelines, I am worn out with their inability to account for individual needs. I really appreciate Thomas' approach of being open-minded to different fueling options. Most of the rest of the people in the "eating healthy" field are too rigidly attached to one way of doing things, and I no longer give their advice much weight in my decisions. I've worked with plenty of aspiring athletes over the years, and learned long ago that every athlete is different, and my approach helping them needs to be individualised. It is crazy to me that doctors and dieticians haven't learned the same approach.

    I gave up carbs 4 years ago and went low carb ketogenic and now at 60 I have never felt better ! I'm very athletic, weight lifting, sprinting, biking, mountain climbing and my muscle, strength, endurance and health have steadily improved the last 4 years of low carb diet ! I have been following Dr Noakes for those 4 years. I wish we could punish the large food companies and people pushing Gatorade and that sugar carb crap ruining people's health

    Great to see Tim Noakes interviewed. On the polyunsaturated fat issue, Eric Westman's clinical experience is that for his patients the quantity of sat or polyunsat consumed has made no difference to outcomes of weight loss and type 2 diabetes reversal. So, although I avoid polyunsaturated fats due to the 2 issues of unbalanced omega 3/6 ratios causing inflammation, and rapid oxidation, any other issues should be looked into of course, but can only be secondary, compared to high carb consumption.

    I have been eating carbs (sweet potatoes, yams, some fruits/berries, cassava, etc) for some time now and it aids exercise a lot. It makes my diet sustainable too and my gut seems to like it.
    Maybe I'll do a keto cycle this year for 2 or 3 months.
    I personally think both approaches have upsides and downsides, and, since I'm not overweight/diabetic and I am lean I don't feel some carb sources // amounts are bad for me.
    I've watched part of the interview and will finish the rest this week. I've know Tim Noakes for a while too and he proposes some good interventions for sickened metabolisms.

    There are some individuals who do fine eating mainly carbohydrates ( from whole foods ) and actually prefer them. Genetics plays a role and a high level of activity such as 10 hour shifts walking, lifting, carrying..where as those who are less active may do better on a lower carbohydrate diet

      I know two or three people who live on high carb diets and low protein and drink coca-cola everyday like they have done for years. No diabetes. No health conditions whatsoever.

      @@martynblackburn9632 another important factor that rarely gets raised is the ratio of fat to sugar or starch. Carbs and fat can interfere with each other as they are both sources of energy. Carbohydrates will not be a problem as long as the fat is low enough not to interfere with Carbohydrate metabolism. Fat can be problematic if the ratio of sugar or starch is to high..so carbs and fat are neither good nor bad.

      @@johncalla2151 I've never had a big appetite and always kept my protein intake fairly high with fairly low carbs...as I always have done since my teens. I rarely drink soda. After my diabetes diagnosis in my late 40s I reduced my carb intake a lot more and started eating less as I got older. People have always said I eat healthily cos I prefer to cook at home (I don't like fast food) and always small portion sizes. It didn't stop me getting that metabolic disease though, but luckily I've always had an athletic physique. The doctors who diagnosed my diabates called it latent Onset diabetes with raised anti-gad antibodies, which means my diabetes was pancreatic and autoimmune related.

    One of the few points I disagree with him is that if glucose goes up during exercise, it means you are insulin resistant. I disagree with this because depending on the intensity of the exercise, adrenaline raises blood glucose levels by stimulating your liver to release glucose.This rise is an indication that you are mobilizing your stored glycogen (meaning the workout is too intense for your body to rely primarily on fat and needs to use glucose as fuel.

      So what about a person who eats carnivore and zero carb? What does their glucose do with higher intensity exercise? This is for someone fully fat-adapted. Based on what I've heard/seen there is basically NO workout that needs glucose for fuel. Matter of fact Noakes has produced some research, supported by many, people who are more meat eaters and very little carb actually exceed in performance vs carb based athletes. For those who feel they run out of steam during endurance events actually run out of ketones instead of glucose. And those ketones actually feed the brain more so than the muscles. There is entirely too many examples now of high endurance carnivores succeeding and excelling to simply dismiss it.

    It goes against my thinking, but ut makes sense more and more. In my early 30s, i started eating tons of whole grain etc, working out, cardiovascular fitness. 5 years later, diagnosed with hypothyroidism, kept up an elite level of fitness, still high carb. At 63, diagnosed with thrombocytopenia, another autoimmune disease. But went the medical route, steroids, immunosuppressive drugs. No more i told the hemotoligist. I am drinking Asea, to supercharge my cells, and detoxifying my entire body. So this case for training in zone 2. I hsve trying to help my wife lose 30 pounds. Sounds like zone 2 and ketogenic way if eating will supercharge weight loss. This is very exciting. I have seen Tim few years ago and i was so closed minded to this. So i need to learn what to eat for satiated state, and studying glyogenisis. Which I guess it means, when you sprint, your liver etc. Will release glycogen for the bursts. ❤

      He means that carbohydrates should not be the focus of your diet. He doesn't encourage zero carbs. Low carb, high fat is the idea. His Banting diet encourages some carbs with every meal.

      @@LTPottenger I’m on keto and I still incorporate some veggies into my diet. But I definitely Portion them out unlike before I would eat huge portion of veggies. I do enjoy the fiver from them but I only eat 20 carbs a day total. So I have to measure all my carbs including from my veggies

    My theory is we need various substrates as fuel for the body at different times in order to achieve metabolic flexibility. Basically conditions our metabolism. So any extreme exclusion diet for a prolonged period is unhealthy. We are designed to thrive via hormetic fluctuations.

      @@crdeyalsingh You were probably in a caloric deficit for too long of a time. It's harder to get enough calories if you are going low carb. Add in that you are probably a little obsessive about body image to get below 8% body fat.
      "I got down to below 8% body fat and my body started resisting using fat for fuel." Well, no shit. You need 4 to 5% body fat at the very, very minimum just to provide padding to your internal organs. This is like never filling your car's gas tank more than a single gallon at a time and then complaining that you can't drive very far.

    So I went and had a VO two max test done. When I was on the treadmill burning the lab technician could see that I was in the beginning burning fat for energy and then for about a minute my body went into a glucose burning mode for like one minute and then I transitioned in that. I’m feeling a slight fatigue but I could actually feel my body transition back into fat burning where I completed a 14 minute VO two max Test on a treadmill. My results showed that I was at 83% tile above the people my age and he asked me based upon what I looked at my result if I was a CrossFit instructor. I said no I am suffering from chronic fatigue, debilitating To the point of having difficulty walking upstairs, difficulty waking in the morning. And I wanted to see if it was mental or physical. I got my answer. Ketogenic is an absolute must. I disagree with him. Exercise and food has everything to do with everything. That’s like saying it doesn’t matter what oil and gas you put on your vehicle it will still run well yes it will but it doesn’t mean that your vehicle won’t break down at a sooner or faster pace. This guy just lost a lot of credibility to me and that’s a shame. Of course you need sleep and rest. But you don’t want to run a marathon after you just were up all night. Anyways everyone have a great day and good health to all. Never give up the fight to feel good.However I enjoyed the video thank you so much. But at that testing my point is I had to mentally fight really freaking hard to get past the chronic fatigue that I’ve been feeling. I am trying to dispel the whole theory of fibromyalgia and the diagnosis of that. However sometimes that extreme fatigue of not being able to walk up a flight of stairs is real. According to the VO two max that I’m able to run on a treadmill like a mad woman for 14 minutes prove that my mind is stronger than my body.

    I think a great easy point to understand is when you study and look at all these older runners a lot of them will have strokes. And why is that because they have high carb diet insulin resistance and still have high cholesterol despite the fact that they run 10 miles daily.
