- Are you looking for a simple overview of occupational therapy (OT)? This video offers a guide to occupational therapy and how it can help you.
This video is created and voiced by Sarah Lyon, occupational therapist, for people who are looking to learn more about this wonderful profession.
Whether you are interested in learning about occupational therapy for children or adults, or how occupational therapy helps with specific conditions from hip replacement to autism, this video gives you an introduction to the basics of OT practice - and how an occupational therapist or OT assistant can help you!
No matter what setting you encounter OT in or what your diagnosis is, occupational therapy care follows a basic structure:
Occupational therapy evaluation - where we listen to your goals for recovery and what matters to you.
Occupational therapy treatment - where we use different techniques to help you heal and when necessary introduce technology and equipment.
Discharge from occupational therapy - where we strive to set you up for ongoing success to participate in the daily activities that matter to you.
There is much more to learn about this rehab profession, so please visit the website below!

This is a great resource. Thank you!
Such a helpful video! The explanation and animation work perfectly to help define a beautiful profession.
Thank you, Numbering Company!!
As a OT, i think that everything is correct in this video, except the images that was showned in the min 1:12 until 1:17. We are not that. That is the work of other professional. Not ours. And in 2018 we really should be the change in the idea that people have that the OT does the same as the physio.
Its my honest opinon, as an OT.
Great, great video. Keep on going.
Hi Catarina, thank you so much for chiming in here! As a fellow OT, I definitely wrestled with the best imagery to communicate to potential clients about our profession. As you will see throughout the video, I erred on the side of what I thought would communicate with the non-health professional. (For example the supine to sit mechanics were lacking, but I went with the most simple imagery of "helping someone up.") If you (or any other OTs viewing this) have ideas for imagery or language to use in the future let me know!
Oh! And I forgot to add that most people will see this video in the context of this " What is OT?" page, so it will be accompanied by a long-from explanation of OT as well! otpotential.com/what-is-ot/

Thank you for this video! I am in high school trying to figure out what I want to do with my future.
I cant find a video that describes what OT actually does though... 🤔
