I find your videos interesting and I'm glad you were able to make this video. This was the one I requested but it's so confusing that every Gyno has different opinions. Here in the UK, a progesterone level of 30 is classed as woman ovulated. Mine has been 24nmol and at other month it was 12mnol. Both readings were taken on cycle day 21. You mentioned it needs to be 2.1, what is this in nmol or what measurement?
Excellent question. I sometimes forget that I have an international audience. The values I speak about in the video are in ng/mL which are conventional units, the system used in the USA. To convert to nmol/L (or SI units, like in the UK), you need to multiply by 3.2. So an ovulatory progesterone would need to be 7.95 nmol/L (or higher). Levels of 24 nmol/L and 12 nmol/L are consistent with ovulation. Here is an good website to convert conventional units to SI units unitslab.com/node/128

This is THE BEST video I have seen on progesterone. I tested last week and my progesterone level was 1.4. I have been having pregnancy symptoms for weeks but tested negative a few weeks ago and just decided not to test anymore and wait it out. I am 5 weeks post conception and I have had irregular periods my whole life but I know I always ovulate. I feel so confused. I was tested for PCOS and I do not have that. I also don't have any fibroids, cysts or blockages. Sensations in my abdomen continue every single day. I feel like Im pregnant but I don't think the doctor thinks that is a possibility. This has been very frustrating. I retest for Progesterone next week if I don't start my period. Please help!

Thank you for this! I’ve been so worried there’s something wrong I’m in the process of seeing a fertility specialist in the uk. My first test was done a few days after my period had ended and came back at 0.7nmol which I knew would be considered ‘abnormal’ due to the time it was done. I also had one yesterday on cycle day 23 my periods are anywhere from 29-35 days it came back at 15.2nmol which again is classed as an abnormal result as in the uk they say 30nmol is consistent with ovulation. I guess it fluctuates that much you can’t always assume the worst. Thank you!

My wife has an IUI coming up in about a week. We already have have the progesterone vaginal insert prescription ready. Our doctor has instructed to to start the progesterone exactly one week AFTER the IUI. From my understanding of the purpose of the hormone, and looking on the forums of other clinics, I can’t find a reason to start progesterone any later than two days after an IUI. Is there a good or common reason for starting a progesterone prescription a week after an IUI?? This is possibly one to three days AFTER implantation…

OMG...I had my blood test with my OB/GYN and have to wait four weeks to see my REI specialist to discuss them. I got the lab results and was scared until I saw this video. Thanks for helping me reduce my anxiety because the lab result guide indicated my levels were too low (6), but I was tested on day 5 of my cycle and now I see that 6 is not even a terrible number...whew.

I really liked you videos. I had a failed FET, it was euploid embryo and on transfer day my progesterone was 333 nmol/L. Do you think it is too high level? I had successfully pregnant at 50 nmol/L at the time of implantation in the past.

Hi Doctor, I hope you see this comment. Is it possible that progesterone can be too low to ovulate? I believe my CD 21 results were extremely low (like 0.6... im based in northern ireland) and I never got a positive ovulation test until i took provera (but then obviously got my period 10 days after finishing). Any reassurance or tips you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Ive had irregular cycles for 7 months now, dont have PCOS. Thank you.
1) If drawn at the proper time, a low progesterone indicated that ovulation did not occur prior to the blood draw
2) Provera, which is a synthetic form of progesterone, does not induce ovulation. A positive ovulation test while taking Provera is likely a false positive

Hmm. I felt ovulation and confirmed with LH strips, then went to get my progesterone level 7 days later and the level was only 1.8 so I was very surprised when I got a positive pregnancy test at 9dpo. It’s now day 11dpo and the HCG tests are getting increasingly darker. I’m waiting on another progesterone blood test from yesterday, but how would you explain this? Based on this data I shouldn’t be pregnant and yet I am.

In his video he says any level over 2.5 confirms that you have ovulated. You have ovulated with a level of 6.9 and pregnancy is a possibility, but not guaranteed as levels will drop closer to the end of your cycle if your period is about to come. If no period comes, you can take a pregnancy test 8-10 days later.
Hi Dr! I ovulated early this cycle, around 12 or 13. I got bloods taken CD22 and progesterone was a 35.. dr said I ovulated, but it’s too high to conceive. Can I get your input on this? :) Am I pretty much out this month?

Progesterone levels can fluctuate during pregnancy, I wouldn't worry about it as 30 is still a healthy number

Ok so i think i ovulated cycle day 22, my levels were over 30 7dpo, i am now 10dpo and they are only 8.1, does this mean im definitely gona get my period and im not pregnant? Or could there still be a chance?

I have had 3 chemical pregnancies every time they checked my levels they were always between 0.2 and 0.6

From what my OB says it can help sustain the pregnancy IF you have low progesterone. I took it (100mg pills) and it caused me to have all kinds of blood clots during my next menses and I’m scared.

I was hoping this would answer my question but maybe you can help me. My blood test shows I’m in perimenopause however I haven’t had a period in five years and went through all the hot flashes and everything so for me I feel like I’m in post menopause. I am 57-year-old female and very overweight and I have Endometrial hyperplasia. My uterine lining is very thick at 22. Last year they were able to get a biopsy and it showed non-cancerous and I had a scraping done to reduce the uterine lining but this year it’s back to the same level thick.again. Do you want me to take progestin but I wanted a progesterone hormone test prior to taking it and it came out that I was at 0.1 progesterone. I’m at 225 for estrogen. So we’re taking a progestin be beneficial as far as balancing out my hormones and a 0.1 progesterone considered low for my age and everything that’s going on?
This is a complicated case. It is really important for you to follow up with your doctor. Perimenopause and menopause is not a laboratory diagnosis it's a clinical diagnosis. Thick endometrium in a woman in her 50s is concerning and needs to be addressed promptly

Hi Doctor! This video was soooo helpful and informative. I have a question, have you heard of proov ovulation confirmation testing? It’s a urine test that measure pdg. It came back negative for me because basically there is a control and a test line. For it to be considered positive there should be no test line that appears. For me it showed a very faint line. Because of this I went to get blood drawn 9dpo and progesterone came back at 7.3. My question is how reliable are urine pdg test versus the blood test. Would you say I ovulated? If I did, does this mean I had a weak ovulation? Thank you so much!!!!
1) Urine tests for progesterone or progesterone metabolites are not as reliable as blood tests
2) The blood test showing an elevated blood progesterone confirms ovulation
3) There is no such thing as a "weak" ovulation. You either ovulated or you didn't
