- One of the last old-style cowboys, and yet a renaissance man, the life story of Dayton Hyde and his efforts to save the wild Mustang are presented in this fascinating story. For over 25 years, on a 12,000 acre sanctuary in South Dakota where over 500 Mustangs run free, Dayton has preserved their history and heritage for future generations. Join us, as we examine the inspirational life of a man and his Mustangs.
Artist, poet, steward, cowboy, father, farmer, WWII veteran, rancher. A man of many talents and wears many hats
What an accomplishment to put all this together! I have one of the once wild Mustangs from the range in Oregon. He had been rounded up at 2 1/2 years and sold at auction. A gal trained him fairly well and I bought him when he was 10. He became my trail horse, and we rode all day in the nearby forest in WA. That horse always knew which trail led home, no matter how many we had traversed that day. He is 24 now. Keep up the great work! That is an amazing place you have created!
Thank you, Mr. Dayton !!
Government says we have too many horses? When are we going to have too many HUMANS?!?!?
Don't you worry about that. Bill Gates and the WEF have that all wrapped up. A wealthy woman turned to a woman helping poor people on another continent turned to her and said, "And now the culling begins...."
We’ve damn sure got too many politicians!
Take a drive. Lots of open spaces ...
@@Ohio98….that are owned by large corporations. If you drove through this area, you’d see a lot of “open land.”
ALL OF IT IS OWNED BY LARGE CORPORATIONS. Where you see nothing, we see and experience disenfranchisement. We are “conveniently” located just downstream from large industrial plants that polluted the water, the air, the complete environment AND THEN LEFT.
“ I’ve never forgotten the sight of those horses running free when I was a captive.” Wow. A metaphor for our ages. Bless you Dayton Hyde.
You are an amazing man, Dayton Hyde! May God continue to guide you and bring into your life those that will carry on your legacy forever. Thank you!!
What a beautiful soul this man has!! I thank GOD every day for sending you to save our beautiful mustangs!! I saw a herd of wild horses years ago as we were driving out of Winnamucca, Nevada 😊. We stopped and took pictures until the big black stallion decided we were a threat to his herd and charged us!! We quickly got back in the car and drove off slowly with him
Watching until we were out of sight! I’ve never forgotten that thrill I felt, actually seeing mustangs living free and wild!!!
We NEED more Dayton Hyde's in our world NOW. Bless you for spearheading an astonishing feat of Mustang heritage care taking.
For yrs I’ve been saving wild mustangs over 65000 running free on my montana horse ranch I love what I do’’

RIP little Father. You lived an incredible life, a life of giving and growing
Thank God for people like him
THANK YOU FOR SAVING SO MANY WILD MUSTANGS & FOR YOUR RESPECT FOR OUR PLAINS & INDIAN TRIBES WHO STILL KNOW THE SECRETS OF OUR BEAUTIFUL WILD LAND. GOD BLESS YOU DAYTON HYDE.
Ive seen petitions started by other organizations against things. If yall start one, against the uranium drilling ill proudly sign . Thank you for this, it means alot. I came to tears at the end, it was very touching.
What a wonderful man. A man I can relate to too much. I know exactly where he is comming from. I pray his sanctuary lives on for generations to come.
Mr Hyde i take my hat off to you for all the hard work you do to save the wild horses .I wish i could have been a part off it.
He makes this look so easy and just like poetry. I wish I could afford to this. I just help my brother with his.
Thank you for all you do, but especially for saving the horses. You’ll be remembered.
SO thankful for Dayton Hyde!
It's amazing how many people are helping to preserves the wild horses. "A slice of Americana".
This is the sweetest old man.
thank you Mr. Dayton Hyde
Thank you for being you and a blessing to these wild horses. You are an amazing human being. Congratulations for all you are doing.👍
I would love to know how many doctors have told their horse loving patients that they're allergic to horses! Personally, I've heard it from 2 so far and my neurosurgeon shook his head and said "I will never understand horse people. It doesn't matter how seriously they're hurt or how they got hurt the only thing they're worried about is how long before they can ride" at more than one appointment. It's amazing when you find a doctor who has seen the physical benefits of riding horses and yet that doesn't include the psychological and spiritual benefits of just being with horses.
Amen, 🎯❤️
It's just a part of who you are. Not be able to ride is the same as some horrible disease. You just can't live a quality of life without the horse. Im not a horseman, though I do think they are amazing, but I totally understand horse people. Much love ❤️
Wonderful! What a full and blessed life you have lived. You have given this world a wonderful gift, thank you, God bless you and your family.
Most wonderful stories about the wild Horses , My best memories all 81 years of them.. Thanks for sharing this story
Thank you for all you have done. Would cherish being able to spend the remaining days of my life around horses that are so healing.
God blessxx
A great man with a supreme calling, and new Slim Pickens, cant be bad. Many Thanks and regards. Alan
I know this incredible man was lovingly welcomed and received by our Heavenly Father Amen 🙏🏻
At the end of this video through tears all I can think is I wish I had been born into this family! Now I am going to find a copy of the book and read it! Thankyou Dayton, a wonderful man and story! I hope your spirit is running free!
What a beautiful inspiring video about one amazing man and his tireless work to give all the wild creatures he cares about a fantastic safe life. Your work will never be forgotten and hopefully continue by others who share the same compassion as you.
I'm with you cowboy, Same in Australia 🇦🇺
I loved riding a running horse so I became a leading jockey in the state of Washington. I love this and watching the wild mustang run beautiful.❤ Thank you God..
Hello again. Henry Wilson here. I'm here in Clitheroe, Lancashire, England. I can't afford to donate to your lovely skeam. I'm just a old retired Stone Waller that worked the land and loved every minute of it. So thank you for showing us how things should be. I enjoyed your video. Thanks again.
Wonderful and breath taking.
Thank You.
For putting in such an amount of work...
For portraying such a historic life...
Thank You.
I really wish more people would see this.
Well done, and Thank You again.
With all the trumps and elon musks out there one forgets that the human animal can get also produce such gifts as this incredibly HUMANE and loving person. To you Protecter Of Ceremonies
They DO have predators. Some of your reports are wrong. Sir, you've been a Savior to these beautiful creatures, and what the politicians are saying is wrong. When it comes to destroying the land, I'll take a herd of horses before. Cattle. Cattles run over EVERYTHING in site. Horses leave most areas intact.
I have had horses all my life to I know this feeling~!
I’m now a 67 yr old bird watching ( listening) horsewoman. What you have done is AWESOME for sure
I may never own Land of my own. However, after talking to my brother and dad I told them they should rescue a couple wild horses. To me wild horses are the most beautiful creatures God has ever created. They took my advice. Every chance I get I go to the farm and each time I go I get closer and closer to the wild horses. They are still young. One of them I can actually brush and put a harness on and off. He is absolutely gentle and beautiful. In a few years he will be ready to ride. Fiona is a different story. She will come near if you have hay but she is spooked easy but that is to be expected. It will take some time. The worse thing to do is push to hard to fast. The relationship between a horse and human is based on trust and love.
the horses were free and wild... how is it that yôu took their freedom away and keep them captive... rescued them from what, being free
@@manny7982 They most likely rescued them from being locked in overcrowded holding pens. Once they are rounded up, they are kept in dry lots for years sometimes. Better to be with a family that loves and respects them than to be in a holding pen somewhere.
Hello mr Dayton I commend your many talents and great resolve to do meaningful work such as this wild horse and land conservation.
This is a fantastic documentary beautifully crafted & relatable content without being either too soft or too strident.
I hope the horses on your sanctuary will continue to run free and proud for many long generations to come. Such endeavours are needed all the more when there is so much to loathe about modern mankind’s many demented and destructive ways, showing those with open hearts how to be better to ourselves and the other life this planet has made possible.

One of the most amazing stories that I've ever watched thank you for my eyes to see such a wonderful story in the horse world
True example to all of us horse❤lovers, ranchers, herdsmen and country folks...
Life is not short... Youth is short!
Therefore, we must plant a tree, write a book and have a son...
Greetings from Venezuela
What an amazing story, life and dream. It got into the my very soul.
God Bless you, Dayton Hyde.
I grew up in the upper Michigan also and loved horses. I also was allergic and very badly to horses but that didn’t keep me away either. I, like so many can relate to this great man !! They don’t make men like Mr Doyle and my dad anymore. Sad and magical all at the same time.
True conservancy of a beloved land and Godspeed to you and yours!
You have led a life that some people can only dream of. The very best to you and all. Tks for the video.. Alberta. Way north of you
This is the most beautiful documentary on the planet, one that everybody should watch.

Excellent documentation of an american in America, doing it his way.

Wow, a man doing something useful! John P.
The BLM has 16 mustangs in their kill pen in Stroud, oklahoma!!! They just brought them in. Said they had papers on each one. There's more than that. They almost ALWAYS have a mustang or two. Burros as well. PLEASE CHECK IT OUT!!
One great man life story
I love this man
For the love of horses ❤
I wish I could be there to help you with the horses. Thank you so much for what you have done for the mustangs. You will be remembered and I pray the horses get to stay there on your land
and be safe n happy for generations to come.
Thank you for showing a city girl your life..I have really enjoyed this ..I'm reminded of yesterday's and again thanks..happy new year 2023.i would like to see more please..
That is as close as a person can get to heaven while here on earth.
They thought he had a degree in engineering when he went to get the permit to build the dam but he knew he only had a degree in English. 🤣😂🤣😂
What an awesome story his is.
He has been successful beyond belief. Feral horses now are 4 to 5 times the numbers set as their ranges being able to sustain in the Wild Horse and Burro Act. They are basically out of control at the detriment of other land uses. No one wants them to go away, but something drastic need to be done to get numbers under control or nature will take care of the problem (rather cruelly, as it always does).
thank you beautiful
Dayton has a connection to the horses.
🥾🥾 >>> >>> "continue the dream" 🐾🐾🐾🐾
I wish I would have been raised buy somebody like him I wish I could live somewhere and learn how to work with the horses I never had one but anytime I get around any I know that I love those animals you never meet somebody as good as that man in any church in any City

JO JO IN VT 💞💨❄️☃️
I lost a child too, and it changed me forwver
This was my dream not to be. So I settled in to city life and did what I could to buck the system. We raised all king of animals I used them to teach others. We camped on a cattle ranch . My dad and friends would be off Fishing for bass My Brother and my self would try to convince the remuda horses to let us ride in the little bit of wilderness left in Florida amongst the Cracker cattle . And other wild life
Thank You
I would sure like to meet you Dayton
I think we have to many politicians!
His love of God's creatures, beaute and spender is great.
So if 75 percent of the horses are domestic how is this a feral horse facility?
Outlaw horse like steamboat my grandpa saw him
That's great to take care of them 🐎 🐎 they still need special care deworming and medical care from fighting.
Chilaquin, Or. …… I lived up on the Dead Indian about 20 miles up. We use to travel a road close to our property to Chilaquin then over to Klamath Falls. Moving to the property up on the Dead Indian, we were able to keep our horses on some ranch in Chilaquin, till we made the move.
Very interesting documentary.
I love horses but i can't stand the cruelty they do to them i really take it to heart i often wonder how people would they like to be treated that way what ever happen to cruelty to animals by law and really happy to learn some one wants to take care of them.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏
I will help... 👍
Save it for heaven's sake.
Thank you so much my father's place and grandparents place was taken by BLM
Does the horse tame them or us?
Where did he get all that money to do all of this? It's not cheap. Did he write and sell books? And what's the name of his books? I'd like to read them.

Why is a foreign corporation even allowed to submit proposals for permits to mine on American land ?
Canada…..go home !
Tell that to your country when it’s ALWAYS stripping other country’s rights & minerals. This particular mining is not good but see what your country has mined out of ours !
You need beavers for water management.
You show was was and what could be again for man and horse.....
Dayton is a "naturalist".

And my brother has a lot of rules and regulations that he has to follow. After 1 year my brother will own them. They send inspectors out to check on them. I told my brother if he would do this I would help with the horses.
