    Given the cost of the extras combined with the fact this would be a dream purchase I'd spend the extra and have the ocean because it would always be in the back of my mind that I could of had the higher spec if I didn't.

  • @watcher24601
    @watcher24601 Před 3 lety +9

    I'd have the Coast, the Bright Oak Wood interior wins it for me. The grey slate just looked too sombre. Can easily spec a few extras and nothing only on the Ocean is a must have.

    Coast would not allow a roof rack unless you remove it before raising the roof..... might be important to some. Ocean can carry upto 50 kg , not a lot but surfboards or kayaks is possible...

    • @dakashades
      @dakashades Před 3 lety +1

      Rom Why do you have to remove the roof racks on the Coast in the UK? Here in Australia we are only getting the Beach and the brochure says that the roof racks on it can carry up to 50kg. It doesn’t say you have to remove them before opening the roof.

    • @daddynugent
      @daddynugent Před 3 lety

      @@dakashades My concern would be that if the roof is raised and theres 50kg still on the rack and the roof was to collapse in the middle of the night it could hurt someone; whereas the electric roof would maintain the hydraulic pressure to keep the roof in place while the rack is loaded. Apart from that I would not have thought theres a reason to remove the rack but I could be totally wrong.

    And then there is the Ford Nugget with a much more interesting layout in my opinion and 5 seats, hot water, ...
    I really like the seperate kitchen area in the back rather than the Cali solution. Time for a change in layout and to come up with something new.

    Very easy to follow guide as usual. Just been through this dilemma, I originally spec”d a Coast with a few juicy extras and was getting close to the Ocean. Currently there are some juicy discounts so I went for the Ocean which ended up just a few K above the Base Coast list price. I also took into account the excellent depreciation on the Ocean, the Coast is unknown at the moment but I expect the depreciation rate should be relative to the Ocean wouldn’t know why it shouldn’t be.

  • @krzysztofkubaszewski7390
    @krzysztofkubaszewski7390 Před 6 měsíci

    Power latching side doors is MUST BE in campervan and it was the main reason why I decided to buy Ocean. If we talked about electric top up roof I'am not convinced to this solution, more practical seems to be manual one. You don't have to bother about rain which can cause damage of the engine. On the other hand as I've read in one of comments below hydraulic top up roof can lift up to 50 kg what is impossible in manual solution so yeah, Ocean seems to be better choice for several reasons.

      VW have continued to provide the Beach in Ireland so maybe that could be an option to import via Belfast and re-register, just something to consider. I favour the Ocean too, but theres a big price jump from a Beach to Ocean.

    Brilliant as ever guys, thanks for posting. We considered a Coast but in the end went for an Ocean (used) Having seen your video I think we’d still go for an Ocean but it’d be a close call as there’s a lot of value for money in the Coast. One of the biggest let-downs for us with the Coast is the lack of a front window in the pop-top and the 3-Zone climate control is a must as we too have a dog (who runs hot, like me) and my wife runs cold so being able to balance the temperatures is important

  • @daddynugent
    @daddynugent Před 3 lety

    The spec for the Coast model in Ireland includes manual transmission as an option, but looking at all of the options when I spec'd p the Coast with a DSG, climate and heating plus, and what i would like from the Ocean model, but with a manual roof and no metallic paint to save some money; the Coast was within €6k of the Ocean spec I had selected. So on balance it is a very expensive vehicle so I would be concerned that I would overlook something that would annoy me later. Therefore on balance I would choose the Ocean model (I would love to be able to desert the electric roof though). Your assessment was really helpful as im trying to decide on which camper I will buy later this year so it has narrowed the choice between a VW California Ocean or a Westfalia Jules Verne. I really like the Jules Verne layout, onboard h/c water and toilet but the California is still a compelling proposition and it now has the same bed system in the roof as the JV. Decisions, decisions.. thank you for all of the information and honest support your family provides on this channel, it is excellent.

    Front view is so nice. We even have it on our T4 ‘94. Exchanging for a coast is an option, but front view missing would be a bummer. Electric sliding door latch on ocean is quite nice. Appconnect is all you need nowadays. And... Is the halogen really that bad? I’d like to know, please share your ideas in the comments!

  • @markheywood8236
    @markheywood8236 Před 3 lety +3

    It's £7k difference and you still don't get the extra power and other benefits. In reality the Ocean is probably worth the difference over the Coast. But neither vehicle is worth anywhere near what VW want for it.
    Look at the small motorhomes or larger prestige van conversions you can get for £65k. Only VW brand suckers would spend £63k on a van with no shower, toilet or garage...and with very little internal storage.

    • @margaretbell5028

      Comparing apples and pears, people who buy the California in their thousands are fully aware that they could purchase a Fiat based lump with typical caravan type interiors for less money, but hey they are just not what they want or need, you pays your money.........

    • @markheywood8236
      @markheywood8236 Před 3 lety +1

      @@margaretbell5028 @Margaret Bell the inside of a California is very cheap plastics for the most part- so trying to compare that positively to craftsman coach built interiors is a joke. Your argument is that a Cali is better quality than a bespoke craftsman van conversion. Ha.
      Secondly, it's got nothing to do with Fiat based lumps.
      Look at bespoke VW T6 and Crafter van conversions . and Mercedes based small motorhomes.
      You're fooling yourself if you think a Cali is better quality. It's OK to say 'we've bought into a lifestyle and a brand', but don't look down on others who have bought better quality for the same money.

    • @margaretbell5028
      @margaretbell5028 Před 3 lety

      @@markheywood8236 Nah, most are just rubbish, any visit to the motor home show ends in astonishment that anyone would pay decent money for such shoddy designs, acres of stick on carpet and plastic wood veneers.
      Now if someone would do a Hallberg Rassy type finish you would be talking about craftsmanship, as ever you pays your money...........

    • @Rowtheboat99
      @Rowtheboat99 Před 3 lety +1

      To some extent I agree that a motorhome can provide better value, but for me it’s about being able to use it every day as the wife’s daily runaround, it’s compact and can be parked easily. So it also replaces the need for a second car. Yes it’s a compromise but spending the same amount on a motorhome which will sit on the drive for most of the time is a waste of money for me. As for branding, at least you know VW will hold their value and have an established used market. It’s early days yet to see how the Ford Nugget or MB Marco Polo stand the test of time say after 5 or 10 years.
