Koukám, že jsme se hodně posunuli, že už to není věta, střih, věta, střih, ale už normalně jedeme jedno slůvko, jednu větu za druhou. Respekt a tříkrát sláva!
Dámo, smekám klobouček. Málokterý cizinec je ochoten se takto naučit naši mateřštinu. Tvoje videa jsou velice inspirující. Asi se nakonec zlomím a začnu se skoro v padesáti taky učit :)

Uprimne, Americanka, ktera se naucila jazyk tak odlisny a obtizny jako je nas a neboji se mluvit verejne na tytrubce, by se urcite nemusela stydet ani kdyby prizvuk nebyl paradni. ;)

Nemusíš se stydět za svůj přízvuk.Chantal Poullain na tom založila kariéru herečky v Praze.Prkna co znamenají svět by určitě vstřebala ještě jednu. Talent na to máš!
Jen je větší level, mluví krásně spisovně a pravopisně na rozdíl od Chantal Poullain-přestože je ČR skoro 35 let, stále špatně mluví česky !

To nějaký dvojníci standardy, ne? Proč od jednoho cizinců potřebuje na českém mluvit tak že by vůbec nikdo ne slyšel že on je cizinec, a druhům od Čechov to stačí ze by jih rozuměli?
Hi Jen, living here is quite tough especially when you can not really understand nor speak their language. I myself been here for quite sometime and been interacting with locals most especially with my partner's family and it is really challenging to communicate with them and with your very inspirational video, it gives me the motivation to study and learn more Czech. But sometimes I am tvrdohlava😅. Thanks for the motivation and you're almost becoming a Czech now🙂
I think that one of the best things about Prague is that they continue to talk to one in Czech constantly even if it is beyond obvious that I am a foreigner. Despite only short visits to Czech Republic it helps one to learn Czech very fast. Ps. Ofcourse the opposite side of this being that Czechs have very low tolerance for foreign accent. And will not hesitate to remind you even of a smallest mistake. Pps. But than again it is a plus too, because it helps one learning a lot!

Jen, tahle věta může mít dva významy, podle toho, jak to vyslovíš. Buď neutrálně - víceméně monotónně, a pak to znamená, že ujde. Ale! Když to vyslovíš s důrazem na posledních dvou slovech, znamená to kompliment.

Thanks for sharing these stories, Jen! Marketa's motivation really reminds me that I need to learn CZ after living here for 2 years! It can be tough to find the motivation to do that when you work in English all day, teaching CZ students. Thanks for the 'kick in the butt' style reminder.... :)
But how? How could one possibly avoid speaking Czech in Prague if they insist on speaking Czech even if it is beyond evident that one is a foreigner? (outside the most tourist places). I lived in Finland before and absolutely everyone tried to speak English to me even if I try to say something in Finnish. While in Prague they will make fun of you, but also correct you even for the smallest mistake (like mixing up which word is Slovak and which is Czech).
@@jammmy30 Do you still have the same problems? For me it's a struggle to get Czechs to speak Czech because they lack the patience and just switch to English. This is probably more a reflection of the people I'm in contact with though since he average Czech doesn't speak english very well.
Ahoj Jen - Tvoje čeština je už opravdu moc hezká po všech stránkách: výslovnost, gramatika, idiomy, i typicky české "vejšplechty" - půvabně znějící z úst Američanky. Hádám, že máš asi i dobrý hudební sluch. Kytara v koutu Tvého pokoje mi připomíná další skvělou pomůcku pro příjemné učení se cizího jazyka - písničky. Kdo zažil jako mladý s muzikou a kytarou šedesátá a sedmdesátá léta, kdy všude okolo zněli The Beatles, Simon a Garfunkel, Johnny Cash... tomu přitékala výslovnost angličtiny i (poněkud exotická) slovní zásoba do hlavy zdarma a skoro sama... @@jammmy30 Hello and thanks for your question. The slangy Czech/Moravian word "vejšplecht" may perhaps be translated as a "funny folk saying". Some more common Czech synonyms might be "rčení" or "průpovídka", usually with some funny content. Yes, I agree that the word "vejšplecht" is somewhat beyond the scope of the google-translator. And perhaps this word is not very common even for many Czechs. However, I know the word "vejšplecht" since my childhood, as spoken in Brno and south Moravian region of the CR.

I had English in elementary school. Paradoxically, I wanted to study German, like everyone else, but the school didn't have enough Germanists, so they didn't give me a choice, they said I have to learn English. Teaching was outdated. At that time, it was not possible to watch series or movies in English, the Internet was in its infancy. I didn't have a foreign language in high school, so I started studying again after school, I gradually had 3 teachers. The big change came a few years ago, when I paid for private lessons, where I was the only student. I got fired from my job, but they paid me enough to take long vacation so I could have an English class every day for several months. With an empty head it is more easy to study. And I had great teacher.
Wow, it sounds like you really took advantage of the opportunity. And your English is great! I agree about private lessons-I prefer the individualized attention.
@@DreamPrague I'm still far from perfection and sometimes I cheat via Google translate. You know, lazy bone. Individualized attention is what I got from David and it was the best I could get. It wasn't cheap, but it was worth it. Today, however, it is different, there are such ways to be in contact with native speakers. I think no book gives anyone as much as a native speaker. That's why I love your channel.

Very nice vlog, Jen! Your Czech is very impressive! Listening to you, as a native Czech speaker surrounded by English, I am constantly reminded how difficult Czech grammar is, and how good you really are. Once you learn to enjoy the clown-like way of speaking a language, it becomes quite authentic. I've made that experience early in life with Russian and Slovak, then with Swedish and English. And I was both shy and talentless as can be. Keep up the good work!
Wow, I'm really impressed by the variation of languages you speak, Paul! I hope Czech is not the only foreign language I learn in my life, but I don't want to move on to others until I feel like I'm somewhat conversant.

Jen, this was an inspirational video for me to continue my Czech. It is not an easy language however, my husband is Czech and encourages me even at the worst of times studying! What is helping me now is to listen to Český Rozhlas Plus and other spoken radio programs in the background several hours a day. At first I could barely hear words but now I understand more and more the words, phrases, sentences, and more and more of the content. I realize this doesn't directly aid my speaking but it is sort of how a child listens and listens before he opens his mouth and starts speaking regularly. The sounds of Czech are becoming more understandable to me. Listening isn't the same skill as speaking but a parallel one that is helpful. Every successfully question that I can ask in Czech is an accomplishment but without the listening skills being developed as well I won't be able to understand the reply to my questions. Keep up your marvelous progress! I don't live in Czechia but just visit as much as I can and then work on Czech language in between the visits so my case is not typical.

I respect you twice as much for learning czech, as learning english is a lot easier. (Might be just me, as I tend to just speak in english (to other people) in games :D - or to say it more plainly , english is everywhere, so certaily not very hard to find somewhere to practice general english with internet ; also just an easier language )

Thank you for making this video, lots of forever-beginners need this desperately. One idea sprung to my mind while hearing you speaking Czech, your vocabulary is impressive, your ř is perfect too but there's one thing i miss there, and it would be a game changer in my opinion .... a rhytm. Have you tried to excercise reading poetry or singing songs?

Fabulous video! Many thanks to the author of the channel for the recommendations! The problem with many people is that they want to take a "magic pill" or get "secret knowledge" and immediately have skills and abilities. However, the truth of life is that knowledge, skills, and abilities do not come by themselves. You can't learn a foreign language without doing anything, without wasting your time and effort, just like you can't learn to ride a bike lying on a comfy couch, listening to lectures and watching videos about "modern methods of learning" on a bike. To really learn something, you have to really practice every day. You're going to fall down while you're learning, and you're going to get bumps - that's normal! The ups and downs of learning are an integral part of our lives. Motivation from success and depression from failure will always be your study companions. However, every student has problems in his or her studies that he or she lacks the knowledge to solve. It can be: poor memorization of words; no progress in language learning; the student can speak, but does not understand speech by ear; misunderstanding of grammar; incorrect pronunciation, etc. Agree that a problem you don't know how to solve is very demotivating. In order to find the answer to our question we have to spend a lot of time to read videos, articles and books by polyglots. In today's world, we have to solve problems as quickly as possible. I don't have time to study and analyze a huge amount of information. My goal is to master the basic knowledge of a foreign language as quickly as possible and already start earning money effectively in the international arena. I settled on the practical guide by Yuriy Ivantsiv " Polyglot's Notes: practical tips for learning foreign language". This book is always in my bag. If I have a problem while learning a language, I quickly find the answer in this book. There are many different techniques and tips for learning a foreign language in Polyglot Notes. I have made my own individual schedule and plan for language learning. Now I know what I am going to study, how I am going to study, when I am going to study and what results I am going to achieve. No problem could stop me! With an effective language learning plan my professional skills are more and more in demand internationally every day. Friends, don't stop there! Everyone has talents that millions of people around the world need! Learn the language and make your ideas and dreams come true! Thanks to the author of the channel for the informative and useful video! Your videos motivate me.

Thanks Jen - great video and I will remember Marketa's (?) "learn a language like your life depended on it". I recall crashing on my bike one day here and really hurt my hip and I knew next to no Czech at the time and I'm not sure I ever felt so embarrassed... not because of the fall - well maybe a little - but because I couldn't tell people who stopped to help much more than "jsem dobry... dekuji". And fortunately, I was okay enough (nasty bruise for weeks)... but what if... your life depended on it! Anyway, great series of videos... thank you! (though I have trouble relating to some of your LA stuff!)

Krásná čeština, "ř" je perfektní, a ten přízvuk je fajn, je v pořádku mít vlastní specifický přízvuk, patří to k individuálnímu člověku.
Taky mám svůj specifický přízvuk v angličtině či němčině, a je to ok. :)

Tak věřím, že inspirace bude sílit i například zde na youtube v komentářích... Čeština je čím dál lepší a klobouk dolů... Víme, že je to opravdu těžký jazyk a a chápeme, ty strasti, které představuje (MY - ČEŠI) Možná i proto jsou Češi shovívavější ohledně hodnocení jazyka... A taky, protože si dokážeme vážit snahy...😊 Takže, za mě velký obdiv! Díky za videa, v češtině vždy potěší a jde vidět ta snaha a pomalu i ten pot 😁 a přeji mnoho úspěchů s matkou češtinou! 👍😉
Souhlasím s vámi, čeština Jen je skvělá, sice někdy udělá chybu, ale ty dělá každý. Navíc čeština má 7 pádů a angličtina 0, v češtině máme 3 rody a 14 vzorů (jen v podstatných jménech), v angličtině myslím taky žádný nejsou. Přeji Jen hodně úspěchů.
I agree with you Jen's english is great, she make sometimes some mistake but who doesn't. Czech has also 7 pády and english hasn't any and there are also 3 rody and 14 vzory in czech (only in one group of words, other groups has some too) and I think that english hasn't anything like this. Wishing many achievements to you Jen.

GRATULUJI k takové pevné vůli ! Musím říct, že i my rodilí mluvčí s češtinou někdy bojujeme pokud jde do hloubky. Nejtěžší může být číst asi různé dokumenty např. z banky apod. :-) To je taková většinou vícestránková zábava na dlouhé zimní večery asi všude na světě. Naštěstí jsem typ člověka co má rád minimalismus a přiznávám, že tak ráda jsem se vlastně jakoby zastavila v čase. Mám raději papír a tužku místo různých aplikací, papírové knihy a ne čtečky apod., takže i to učení on-line by nebylo nic pro mne a každého kdo se takto učí proto dvojnásob obdivuji.
Naše učitelka na střední škole byla fantastická. Díky ní jsem se toho za 4 roky naučila víc než za 7 let na základní škole. Ale říkávala nám vždycky, že si myslí, že nejlepší učitelé jazyka jsou cizinci. Protože on ank každý Čech neumí Česky. Většina rodilých mluvčí nejsou jazykovědci a většina lidí mluví "špatně". Neumějí gramatiku, neumí postavit správně větu. Kdežto ten cizinec se ten jazyk musel sám naučit, mus porozumět jeho podstatě a naučit se všechny gramatické jevy nanovo. Nebere je automaticky a víc si je uvědomuje. A já s ní v tomhle naprosto souhlasím.

Díky za video musí to dát hodně práce, při videu jsem jedl a jen poslouchal a a přepnutí z češtiny do angličtiny při představení sponzora Italky mě vylekalo :D , příště italky taky česky prosím :)
Musím říct že tě obdivuji, jsi vážně dobrá. Já neumím moc angličtinu :/ Ale ty mě motivuješ abych se dál učil, doufám že budu v angličtině tak dobrý jako ty v češtině :D
Je to zvláštní ale mě v mých 12 letech docela učí jenom poslouchat anglické videa.. Takže vlastně pomáháš. Dekuju!
To je hezké přiznání. Ale učit se od svých studentů je fajn. Tedy svůj obor by člověk měl mít zvládnutý líp než jeho studenti :-), ale může se přiučit leccos jiného. Já jsem se takhle díky svému studentovi před asi třiceti lety naučila základy práce s pc a hlavně jsem se toho přestala bát. A mockrát mi moji studenti byli inspirací, v těžkých dobách oporou a občas se smáli mým vtipům :-))))
Ahoj Jen, mluvíš velmi dobře. Je obdivuhodné jak na sobě pracuješ a jaké děláš pokroky :-) O i-talki začínám uvažovat, abych zlepšil mojí tragickou němčinu :-)
Oceňuji Vaši odvahu vyjít ven s vaší čestinou. A máte pravdu. Druhý jazyk je nejtěžší. Třetí je v pohodě a první se naučíme tak nějak od mámy ;)
I also sometimes lose the motivation to continue learning German and I've lived in Germany for 2 years... Especially now when for 1 year I've been basically sitting at home. But yes, communication with a doctor is a good motivation :D
And my English suffers a lot. Being in a multicultural environment where everybody speaks English but nobody is native, we basically teach each other our mistakes...
I think it would be cool to speak English in a multicultural environment where nobody is native. Like Marketa said, the important thing is understanding one another.
