I am an Indian and I've been here in around 2014 and I still remember how we had gone there specifically to see his speciality, and he was so happy he gave us an entire narration of the process and their conditions that showed us how dedicated they are:
1. The way that they create the color every single time on their hand is because they haven't been able to create a machine as the nature of it is such that it instantly hardens. That also means that even in the hot temperatures of Gujarat, they cannot work in air conditioned environments. And oh yes, it definitely burns and callouses their hands, but they are used to it.
2. They are the only family that have this tradition, and at the time we visited them, they were really struggling because even tourists would come and bargain in their houses. I don't know how it is now, since they're getting popular online, but it is really nice to see that people are finally appreciating local art. I think they've even won national awards, yet they continue to live in a rural setting with no solution to the difficulties they face, because, as they have said, all solutions only lead to further complications in their art.

Mind blowing art. This beautiful art should preserve and spread more n more.
Breathtaking and so special. Bless him.and his family for keeping this art alive.
I have seen this beautiful art form in our college trip to Kutch around 10yrs ago and I still have that video I made while artist was making his art piece.😃
Artist: *”This design took 2 years to create and would sell for around $1,000.”*
Me: *”You mean $1,000 per inch, right?”* 😱❤️
Right 🤔
THIS! My gods, this is actual art not the "modern art" bullshit. It's worth so much more.

@@IceQueen975 modern art is trash. Modern art museums show you a dot on a canvas and call it art
@@ILikeBirds some time ago i've saw some news online about a woman janitor working in a modern art museum who accidentally trew away a "piece of art" cuz she though it looked like trash. The art was some cardboard laying on the floor.
That man is sooo calm and patient
I would never be able to be like him
Those are some talented artists. The designs are lovely too. It would really be a shame for this craft to die out. I wish them continued success and many tourists to help!! Thank you for this really informative video.
The nephew def. Has an amazing vision. If they had an online store, i would totally buys a piece.
Surely there are millionairs out there who would spend thousands to get one of a kind items made by rare skilled people like this!
@@jathinmahendra There are 7 billion people in this world. A "maybe" is out the window, it's a for sure.
@@winniethepooh8353 yep
@@winniethepooh8353 Well, I guess it depends on the want of the consumer. A smart consumer may realize the value in the traditional crafts and arts, and wish to support it. But they may also decide against spending on pieces of art and crafts to instead save up for their own families. Of course there are different ways to invest in the future of your kids and in opening opportunities for them by giving them quality education and spending on their own hobbies. My more people like the hundred millionaires or such might spend their wealth on stuff, but it is up to the individual to do so.
I would definitely pay 1000 bucks for that art
@@shamerzaihan8638 Same. Something like this would only increase in value. So much talent and traditional craftsmanship in 'developing' nations. If it was from Western or European countries, I'm sure these people would be VERY wealthy as their work would be considered high end/luxury.
Sabyasachi, manish malhotra and other famous designers should encourage these artists. I hope they receive help from the government too

And you added the details to the old videos too! Excellent
Seeing that the craft relies on freehand art is truly marvelous. This traditional artform should be recognized worldwide and be kept alive for the next generation.
Is extremely inefficient. The end product is just pattern on cloth. We have way better system for that since the 19th century. You are just valuing inefficiency. What difference does it make if he were to draw by hand on a computer and draw by hand with oil on a stick. The end product is better with modern machinery. The quality is not better with oil on a stick.
@@StupidBadyXD accurate user :)
@@StupidBadyXD What reason?
The same reason hand drawn paintings still sell for millions compared to your 5 dollar Ikea portrait.
@@StupidBadyXD You may think it's inefficient and perhaps it is, but there is space for both to exist in the market place. There are many who will appreciate it.
@@mandyhorne4333 Agreed. Though at the end of the day, that's kind of the issue. It's a niche market, and it's really only marketable because it's a traditional craft, in that they're mostly making it in the traditional way (aside from using industrial castor oil). "StupidBadyXD" is partially correct. It's a novelty item, essentially. This doesn't really take any skill or require a great deal of artistic talent (aside from being creative in the freehand form). Anyone could theoretically do this.
It's only because they're some of the few Indian people doing it, and it's a family tradition. It wouldn't sell from anywhere else.
Also, once you make it scalable, even within India --- it stops being profitable.
2:58 this piece's artwork is just marvellous !!! Worth more than $1000
I think you meant Rupees, not Dollars? 'Cause that's too much money 💰
@@ananyasingh5809 no I meant dollar. 1000 rs doesn't justify that master piece.
