    I find it strange that so many reviews skip the tip-to-ground voltage test, as it's the main issue with this thing.

    Excellent review!
    I wish that I needed another solder station. I love the features that this has. ESPECIALLY being able to choose an auto shutdown if one walks away from the unit and forgets. LOL

    Great review. Will probably purchase the device tomorrow. I currently have no soldering machine for the first time since 1994, as my previous machine, an Aoyue, died recently. Not going for that brand again if I can help it. Cheers.

    Great review! Some very nice features - I really like the dormancy/sleep options - I have at least once left my iron on all night.....
    The real champion of this video is the soldering iron stand that you purchased separately 😎
    The tips that it came with were way too skinny - they should have mixed it up a little, like - "ok here's a tip for a small job, a medium job, and a heavy solder job".....

    • @MadRC
      @MadRC  Před 2 lety

      Yea is a great iron just a shame about the tips. But tbh I have been using the blade/chisel one for everything so far with out issue.

  • @casparv
    @casparv Před rokem +2

    I expect that the apparent initial temperature overshoot is because of the distance between the tip and the sensor (the latter is nearer to the heating element). It will take a tiny bit longer for all the heat to disperse evenly throughout the element and reach the tip. So they would pump in enough heat that, once fully dispersed, the tip will reach the right temp - which means there is a short overshoot at the sensor location.

    • @jeremyglover5541
      @jeremyglover5541 Před rokem

      on a different review of a kit that included a JBC style clone, not only did the clone tips show overshoot, measured independently the temperature each tip reached was roughly 10% lower than what was set. the same iron with legit JBC brand tips behaved correctly and reached the correct temp.

  • @ianmcchickenlover3704
    @ianmcchickenlover3704 Před rokem +1

    In a video from another youtuber who has a temperature probe it can be seen that it also overshot on the older firmware, it just didnt show on the display. Imo its better to see the actual temperature its reading rather than what they want you to believe

      @@BryanTorok I like my ksger t12 I just wanted to mix it up and get a new iron. I bought a better handle haha. I've been starting doing some repair work on 3d printers and other stuff so I've been thinking about a metcal. It's expensive up front but tips are cheap. I need a new scope first which is coming soon I'm getting one of the new rigol 8gsa mso scopes. They're badass looking and cheap for what they are. 1500cad or so with tax. I'm 43 so it'll probably be the only scope i ever need haha I currently have a hantek dso5102p which I plan to give away to whoever will take it when I get my new one. I ordered a new guitar this week and I'm tearing the kitchen down to the studs and rebuilding it next month so the wife will let me get whatever I want. It's funny, my wife says I have expensive tastes yet she wants a new kitchen even though we have a perfectly fine one. She wanted a pool as well and got that haha I'd rather have my head buried in a project then get in the water. I've been in it twice for 1 second each time. Women compete with each other over that stuff when you could go on a tour across Europe and Asia and still have money left over. You won't remember your new kitchen on your death bed but memories of travels will be cherished.
      Sorry. That got deep.

    • @BryanTorok

      @@jstro-hobbytech I get where you are coming from. I wasn't questioning your wanting to a new soldering station, just that I try to avoid buying stuff made in China where it reasonable or practical to do so. They have messed with the USA and Canada tremendously (not necessarily the people, but their government) in terms of the economy and intellectual property. China has bought control in a large swath South American and African countries. They have been doing so for decades.
      Weller products are designed in Germany and built in Mexico for the N. American market. Hanko is designed in Japan and assembled in a different Asian country, Malaysia, I think.
      But, I get it. For about the past year, I've been looking at buying the Rigol MSO5072 and running a software hack to upgrade to the capabilities of MSO5354. I'm not sure that gets it to 8 gsa. I'll have to look.
      If you are taking care of the wife, then enjoy your avocation and have good equipment. You deserve it.

    I still found these to be too expensive. And so i went with the latest version of the Ksger ST unit. Because i don't solder all that much and figured it would be sufficient. 55 euro. with a stand, 4 different tips. But without power cable. I have plenty of those at home.
