    The moon rocks thing is actually really true. Lunar dust will shred your throat and lungs because it's basically clouds of tiny razors. In Earth, wind blows dust around, causing particle to knock into each other and rub together, wearing the particles smooth. Since there's no wind on the moon though, the dust particles don't get smoothed out and stay all jagged points. That's one of the reasons why researchers working with it have to wear hermetically sealed suits. It'll cause massive unpleasantness no matter where it touches you and extended exposure can be lethal.

    I think Dr. Braun's fate in Fallout 3 is both more ironic and more deserving than your dad's. He created a VR simulation for the residents of Vault 112 to be trapped in forever as his playthings, and then at the end is trapped there himself, alone and bored until the power goes out countless millennia later.

I always loved that huge amount of gold I got from selling his shit. 1. The Quarians created the Geth who then turned around and killed scores of them due to enslavement and attempted genocide.
    2. The Leviathan created The Intelligence who then killed its creators.
    3. Binary Helix created the insane Rachni who then slaughtered them.
    4. TIM re-created Commander Shepard who then killed him.
    5. The Krogan created the atom bomb and then promptly used it on themselves.
    6. The Project Overlord scientists created the machine that linked David Archer to the Geth. That same machine that David used to command the Geth to kill all the scientists.
    7. The Reapers created the Citadel which later turned out to be the key to killing them.
    Wow... Mass Effect has a lot of these, doesn't it?

    • @davidcoyle6287
      @davidcoyle6287 Před 9 lety +9

      Technically the Citadel wasn't made to destroy the Reapers. That's only one ending (and my least favourite since it makes peace with the geth impossible and also kills Joker's girlfriend.exe). It was designed by the Intelligence to break the cycle, offering to Destroy the Reapers, Control them or achieve organic/synthetic Synthesis for whoever reaches it. Oh, and you can also shoot it and let everyone die in the ultimate "fuck you" ending by Bioware.

    • @Momo_Minomo
      @Momo_Minomo Před 9 lety +9

      David Coyle Yeah, all the endings sucked. Bioware may never live down the disappointment over ME's endings.
      The point though, isn't that they made it to destroy themselves but that they created it only for it to become instrumental in their downfall. Either they die, become eternal slaves, or have the very fabric of what they are become irrevocably changed to be more like something they view as barbaric and inadequate. Every reaper in the game viewed organic life as an infestation to be controlled, like an insect that you need a certain amount of to pollinate your crops but if you have more than the absolute minimum they ruin everything. The last thing they wanted was to be like that. So in the Reaper's eyes, no matter what they were being destroyed by a thing they had created to help insure their superiority over the galaxy.

      If you want to get super technical, Booker created Anna, not Elizabeth. They are and aren't the same person. Technically speaking, it was Comstock who created Elizabeth by kidnapping her, even though it was both of them who caused Anna's finger to be severed (or head to be decapitated), and Booker and Comstock are both the same and not the same person.
      So yes, and no. I have a feeling this one might have been on the list, but it would've been too difficult to explain and in some ways, untrue.

    One of the many great things about the Portal franchise is just how self-aware it is of the common tropes of the sci-fi dystopia without degenerating into self-conscious meta. So Cave Johnson isn't your standard-issue Evil Genius done in by his own creations. He's a shower curtain salesman who became a gazillionaire after WW2 simply by standing in the cold war federal money spigot's general direction. (Heh, kind of like Donald Trump's dad being a pedestrian builder of middle-income housing units becoming a gazillionaire by standing in the general direction of the FHA money spigot enabled by the GI Bill.)
    So Cave Johnson doesn't know the first thing about "science," nor does he care, nor needs to care; he's got his hired lab boys for that. He equates "science" with "the thrill of danger." He isn't an actively evil presence, just someone whose astounding lack of self-awareness and station in life prevented him from outgrowing his adolescent Buck Rogers fantasies.
    Sure, the history of Aperture reveals that Cave very quickly evolved into a functional sociopath -- "disappearing" astronauts, waving pathetic amounts cash at homeless guys for allowing them to do unspeakable things in those vitrified chambers, keeping a step ahead of all manner of authorities, blackmailing his employees into "voluntary" testing.
    But unlike all the other video game Evil Geniuses referenced here, Cave is neither an idealist-cum-megalomanic nor a Machiavellian with a consciously evil agenda. He's a normal guy of his time who simply never questioned the scientistic meta-narrative ...
    Which makes his death from moon rocks (doubtless helped by all that asbestos which corrodes the respiratory system in similar ways) tragic, and more in line with long-term smokers of his generation. He simply never stopped once to question the bullshit.
    And that makes Cave -- despite being an uproariously cartoonish caricature played brilliantly by JK Simmons -- a genuinely relevant and thought-provoking character in a way that your standard-issue Dr. Frankenstein wannabe just has no chance of ever being ....

The transferring process, however, is extremely painful, as in order for it to be done, the subject is put inside a giant suit of armor, and drowned in molten lyrium. Eventually, the greed of the king who ruled over him resulted in him being put into the body of a golem as punishment.)

      +SuperEagle720 but, Shaun freed you, in a way, setting into motion the events that change you from a normal veteran/lawyer to a wasteland warrior who fights for the little guy... or kills and devours anything in his path because players are psychopaths.
      He could have had the institute take you and keep you out of the manipulation of the wasteland... of course, I suppose metaphorically speaking, ol' Kellogg and the original institute created you both, and both die.

    • @SuperEagle720
      @SuperEagle720 Před 8 lety +4

      +noobmaster117 Shaun could have made the institute take you in. But not stopping something is not the equivalent of creating it. The main character turns himself or herself into a monster by their actions in the wasteland. And while all players are psychos i never got that vibe from either of the main characters in any dialog option, you could be an asshole but never really a monster.

    • @Werewolf_Korra
      @Werewolf_Korra Před 8 lety +4

      SuperEagle720 then you clearly have not been taking in the adventures of Capain Richard Ravager III. He murdered all of Vault 81 over a kickball, starting with poor Ashes, is a complete racist against synths, and ate his own son.

    • @SuperEagle720
      @SuperEagle720 Před 8 lety +2

      +noobmaster117 Those are the actions of the player in control of the character, and as we both have agreed on all players are psychos. But as soon as you enter dialogue with someone you are just a parent looking for their son. So while you can role play as Erik Ear-eater who murders anyone in his way and then feasts exclusively on their earlobes it never reflects onto your character.

    • @nicholasfarrell5981
      @nicholasfarrell5981 Před rokem +1

      Long (and frankly hilarious) story short, Suchong wasn't the one who figured out how to program Big Daddies as bodyguard the Little Sisters. He gained access to a tear and got into a thieving war turned uneasy brain trust with . . . whoever programmed Songbird, but he only ever got the basics from them.

    The Lutece "Twins" dying but not dying is very comparable to Royal Doctor W.D Gaster.
    You see, Gaster is stuck between Dimensions. He fell into his "Machine" and was never seen again. He has mysterious Holes in his Hands, has strange, Gray Followers that disappear as soon as you turn your back to them and only appears once to you (Inside a Gray/White Room that disappears as soon as you exit the Room). The Lutece Twins figured out the way to permanently cheat Death itself.

He creates a load of animosity by goading you into battle with his Jack-inspired monster, and then after you kill it he falls down his very own creation: a set of holo-steps. All because he's too busy talking big about how smart he is to watch where he's walking.

    BATMAN ARHKAM ASYLUM/CITY SPOILERS:
    I think that Joker from Batman Arkham Asylum/City should have been an honorary mention, because of the Titan formula that he used. He didn't directly make it, but he did fund and eventually complete the production of it, while it did kill him in the end.
