This video clip is from the film Bill and ted's excellent adventure this is one of my favourites and this is my favourite part of the film and there is really cool music enjoy
They made Beethoven look like he was reacting to the sound. At this point in his life, Beethoven was mostly deaf. It wouldn't have sounded cool to him. It would have sounded like sketchy buzzing sounds. He would have had to feel the keyboard to be interested by it.
Beethoven was a complex man. What he couldn't hear he could feel and if it felt pleasant to him he'd do it more. Unless he was meant to be from a time where he could still hear, the best I could say is that he probably imagined what it must sound like and just went with it.
I was so glad to find the song that plays here, on the soundtrack. It shot right to the top of my all-time favorites list after I heard the entire tune. And it's still that good. "Play With Me" by Extreme - good for any workout playlist. ;)
I'm amazed that as a person born in '91 I've heard Play With Me maybe twice on the radio my entire life. Maybe it's just the local DJs but how is it that everyone born today knows all the top 10 Zeppelin hits but almost no one even my age knows about Extreme in general? Bizarre that it wasn't considered one of the most iconic 80s tracks of all time.
Aww Metrocenter mall Where this was filmed recently closed For good this summer 2020. Also it had been on life support for the past few years it was finally killed by the Kung Flu 😥
I imagine his joy comes from knowing what music can be in the future. It would be like bringing a kid from the 70s and exposing them to modern day video games
@moonscar119 Yep, exactly. It would be like going back to 1978, grabbing a kid playing Pong on Atari and then sitting them down with a PS5, or just showing them Super Mario on the Switch.
PLEASE ANYONE. What is the song at the very beggining (played when joan of arc is looking at the aerobics instructor) at around @0:20. It only starts for a few seconds.
I don't live in a big city like San Dimas, but I have never, even in the big cities in Canada (where I live), seen a skating rink inside of a mall until I saw this movie.
Lol San Dimas is not a big city, it's a little shitty town on the very outskirts of LA. This was shot in one of the much bigger LA malls. In SoCal where it doesn't get cold most of our ice rinks are indoors like this
Michael Hambrook This was not shot in CA, it was shot at the Metrocenter Mall in Phoenix, AZ which did have a skating rink and it was a big deal if you grew up there in the 80's.
It's pretty common in a lot of bigger malls. There's a mall in Doha, Qatar that's like 5 levels and has an ice rink AND a roller coaster and other amusement park rides INSIDE of it.
and what's the name of the song being played? i thought it was cannon rock. this song doesn't appear on the soundtrack. i can't find this damned song anywhere.
I find it ironic. Back then Calfiornia was the spearhead when it comes to promoting a body by insulting fat people. Yet now they become the spearhead against fat shaming as though they're saying "We didn't say that. Why would we say such a thing."
Jane Wiedlin as Joan of Arc was so friggin' cute in this movie. I was like 10 when I first saw this, and I was instantly enamored.
I didn't expect to become this nostalgic about malls.
The mall this was filmed at is gonna be torn down next month, but they throwing a farewell party with the movie in two weeks. Rip metro center.
Did ANYBODY?
I loved what they did with beethoven so much. What could an og musician do with all the technology we have. Love the respect they've shown.
Loved how Beethoven gave the store salesman that "What do you think?" look, when asked if he was a musician lol.
Those guards had no idea how close to death they came, trying to take out ghengis khan
First time I watched it and thought "you can't capture and arrest one of the greatest conquerors in all history!"
"Are you a musician?"
"Are you fucking serious?"
He laughs and then he just paws that the keys like what the f*** did. The actor f*** that up?
R.I.P. Robert V. Barron (1932-2000) (Abraham Lincoln), Tony Steedman (1927-2001) (Socrates) and Clifford David (1928-2017) (Ludwig van Beethoven).
And Bernie Casey.
And George Carlin
A most excellent decade for both movies and music! xD
This mall is getting demolished this summer. Sad.
damn, I miss tthe good 'ol days...when it was still EXCELLENT!!
🎸🎸
Malls of the 80s, fantastic times
Still to this day dont know what Beethoven did wrong. Doesn't the guy want a kick ass demo of his product??
Preach
They probably just considered him guilty by association. Lincoln and Freud didn't do anything wrong either
The scene with Genghis Khan and mall security was hilarious.
And the scene where Abe Lincoln gets arrested along with Sigmund Freud was good too.
Came straight here after watching Retail Archaeology's videos about this mall, such a shame it closed back in June this year. RIP Metrocenter Mall :(
This was filmed at Metrocenter mall in Phoenix, AZ in 1988.
I always wondered about those guards telling the day's activities to the next shift. "You'll never believe what happened today!"
"Are you a musician...?"
[stares in Beethoven]
RIP Metro Mall
I always laugh my ass off at Socrate's with his water pistol
"Hee haw!" *squirts pistol*
That's a cap gun
I work at Metrocenter Mall where this was filmed....... It is nothing like this now
They’re auctioning off fixtures etc right now 🙁
awesome song...always pumps me up!
Because he's a salesman, not a musician, and he doesn't know greatness when he sees it.
r.i.p. metro center mall where this scene was filmed...
Play with me by Extreme
very good song
Absolutely love this scene.
This scene never gets old funniest part in the whole movie!
Love you always, Metrocenter Mall!
I luv this scene nd the fast pace heavy metal song lol nd i also love joan of arcs dancing skills, so 80s lol :D luv it
0:18 Love the song!
The jewelry store you see for a second at 8 seconds in. My grandma and step grandpa owned that.
They made Beethoven look like he was reacting to the sound. At this point in his life, Beethoven was mostly deaf. It wouldn't have sounded cool to him. It would have sounded like sketchy buzzing sounds. He would have had to feel the keyboard to be interested by it.
ok Debbie downer

0:40 in 2024 that music is still superb, nostalgic yet futuristic
Beethoven literally got arrested for playing the piano. Draws the biggest crowd that salesman had ever gotten.
Geek!
Today this mall closed for good. Be excellent Metrocenter Mall
Metro Center mall is now getting demolished 😞. Thankfully the Circle K that they were in front of is still there in Tempe. #totallybogus
Not anymore...
Don't know why Beethoven got arrested. He was pulling off a good show XD
This movie and this scene is what first got me interested in history. FOR REAL.
I'm amazed that as a person born in '91 I've heard Play With Me maybe twice on the radio my entire life. Joan of Arc looks quite hot
The mall this movie was shot at is now a “Dead Mall”
it's been pretty ghetto for a long time, even in the 90's there were lots of beggars in the parking lot and lots of ethnic argy bargy inside the mall
I went there as a kid in the 80s
It's now shutting down would've loved to see the mall in this state 😭

Its supposedly Beethoven, but the song is 'Play with me' by extreme, the solo bit you hear is performed on an electric guitar by nuno bettencourt
Metro center mall Phoenix Arizona
2:07 Me when I make a lightsaber out of markers
Metro Center, the mall this was filmed at is being torn down in June, but the owners are throwing a farewell party playing this movie!
One of the funniest scenes in cinema history. With background music from the Boston band "Extreme".
So much awesomeness
"Are you a musician?" ... my favorite part of this scene.
Back when you could make a joke about someone shooting a gun in a mall.
i love this movie!
Aww Metrocenter mall Where this was filmed recently closed For good this summer 2020. Also it had been on life support for the past few years it was finally killed by the Kung Flu 😥
Please arrest this guy for showcasing my keyboards
Steve Vai was a master back then shredding it up on guitar for Bill and Ted
Sorry, that was the band Extreme with guitarist Nuno Bettencourt.
Ludvig Van is the Man.
metro center mall phoenix az
1:35 Lol at Freud's corn dog. Nice touch.
Just heard that this mall (Metrocenter in Phoenix) just closed up for good June 30th. Really sad I had some great memories at this place in '05.
EXCELLENT!!
the best part!
Imagine if these Historic Figures ever came back
Don't let your friends wonder off alone. Especially when your friends are warriors like Joan of arc and Genghis Khan 😂
0:30-0:57 best scene in anything ever my heart MELTS everytime
I imagine his joy comes from knowing what music can be in the future. It would be like bringing a kid from the 70s and exposing them to modern day video games

How malls were in the 1980s
...oh yeah, I forgot Abraham Lincoln was a professional wrestler when he was younger. That explains him taking down that photographer.
Ghenghis Khan is the reason why asians are badass, Socrates is the reason why we have philosophy today.
Genghis khan is badass with that baseball bat
He totally tarnished that sporting good store.
4:10
All right, come on, grandpa.
i love socrates with his little skwirt gun
so funny!!
2:11 he went in with the bat though 😂😂😂😂😂
I guess after his trip to the mall he went back and created the bat!!! 😂😂😂😂
3:56
Non! Non!
RIP Tony Speedman Clifford David and Robert v Baron
Al Leong is a legend!!!
SO-CRATES!
that's what gets me! he should have been given a job!
And this is why you never bring Genghis Khan to the sports store
If all that happened this era, Genghis and Billy would've been shot while Joan and Beethoven became viral sensations hahaha
Joan of Arc reminds me of Arya
the mall filmed here is now dead.
Rip metrocenter
Joan of Arc looks like Bridgette Lundy Payne or Samara Weaving! :)
GO MISS OF ARC! 2:53
PLEASE ANYONE. What is the song at the very beggining (played when joan of arc is looking at the aerobics instructor) at around @0:20. It only starts for a few seconds.
Wish I knew

0:37 how people reacted to the first iphone
well id say beethovens sort of a beast
It's not like Beethoven hasn't heard music in a long time.
my favorite scene, but i never understood why the piano guy got mad at Beethoven
The only English word Socrate lean is geek
play with me by extreme
What is the aerobics song?
busted by mall cops!!!!!!!!
I've always wondered this, were those two chicks interested in Billy and Socrates?
They only had eyes for Siggy. 😜
Yes he is mranarchist17
Funny but this mall is now dead where they filmed these scenes.
What song is that when the guitar riff sets off?
Extreme: Play with me - Nuno Bettancourt on guitar
Its from a band called extreme, the song is play with me
Metro center back in the day.
and what's the name of the song being played? i thought it was cannon rock. this song doesn't appear on the soundtrack. i can't find this damned song anywhere.
Play with me by Extreme.
Geek.

Why are Billy The Kid, Socrates & Sigmund Freud being chased?
I find it ironic. Back then Calfiornia was the spearhead when it comes to promoting a body by insulting fat people. Yet now they become the spearhead against fat shaming as though they're saying "We didn't say that. Why would we say such a thing."
