- Final Day fishing in Mag Bay. Started out the day fishing for yellowtail at the mouth of the bay. The bite was great but started out slow. We had a hard time getting the yellowtail to bite live bait, but once we started yo-yo fishing it started to heat up. At one point I had a nice Yellowtail on that got tangled on the other side of the boat. We got the other fish in, but mine was wrapped up in the line. Captain cut my line thinking it was from the landed fish! Needless to say my fish was lost and after a moment of tension, the air was cleared with a nice joke. That was probably my most fun day fishing in Mag bay this trip. Something special about that Yellowtail bite.

On the east coast when we jig we give the rod quick and fast pumps up as we bring it up
Don’t wind your jig up to the top every time, once you have gone through the strike zone aka where the capt is currently metering them, just flip it back in free spool and do it over. Maybe try it 2-3x max and then reset and reel all the way up to the top. You’ll expand your chances way more this way.

I use the Salas 6x, 7x,Jr. Or similar type jig depending on the size of the YT and the bait its feeding on. Most of the time its reaction bites so color doesn't seem to matter when its wide open but I've had the best luck with mint or blueish ones at Coronados, San Clemente and Catalina. Best things I've learned is if your marking them deep yoyo and if their blowing up on top throw the surface iron, Tady sr. (discontinued) are my go to for that. Your turning into a great fisherman. One tip tho, and no disrespect, ditch the coffee grinder and get good at throwing the iron on a proper jig stick when your fishing down south. Westcoast/socal style! Love the vids.

Ive had deck hands lose 2 king salmon in a row at the boat… limit was two… went home with no fish.
For this viewer, the highlight was swimming with the Seals. I've seen you catch a lot of fish but I've never seen you do that. It was exciting. 😀
When yo-yoing try reeling up mid column then drop back down instead of working it all the way up. Love all your videos bro keep them coming
Yoyo: Get yourself a all MINT jig. Drop it all the way down and BURN it back up about half way (depends on where the Yt is). Don’t have to wind it all the way up. Get yourself a 7-8’ heavier rod. Have caught and landed lots of yt off yoyos.

My man! Drop down once you feel bottom brother reel as fast as you can for like 10-15 cranks if nothing hits drop again! keep doin that! That’s why it’s called yo-yo! You’ll get hit on the way down sometimes as well brother! Caught two 35 pounders this way! Cortes bank!

Every time i get to a fresh spot I like to drop a big spinning flasher vertically down with a 1/2lb weight, straight down to bottom and back up. Fish for hundreds of yards will see it and come poking around.

Try a Salas 6x Jr in Dorado pattern on 40#-50# and a Seeker 6470 or another equivalent 7’ rod with a Trinidad 20 sized reel. While facing the swell drop down until you think you went too deep, lay the fore grip on the rail of the boat with the tip down or even in the water and WIND as fast as you can. Take breaks don’t gas yourself. When you get bit don’t given an inch especially around rocks. Good luck and thank you for the content. 👍🏼

What I love about these videos and many other people's videos like these.. Are the quality of my phone I feel like I'm seeing it in my own eyes and I don't get to travel much. I live in Pennsylvania. Crappy car. One day I'll go to a Beach. Went to cedar point for first time in summer in '21 friends took me. And the lake size was insane. Being at the ocean I would feel intimidated. Hell, looking up into the night sky with full moon and clear night is insane in itself. We are in a damn.. Galaxy.. Mind blowing.
It is intimidating the first few times going in the ocean especially alone, but you get used to it quickly...that's when you can start making risky decisions!
Let jig drop the the bottom. Let it sit for 20-30 secs on the bottom so anything that saw it will investigate. Give it 2 quick pulls up so as to make it look like it’s fleeing. It causes a reaction bite even when they aren’t hungry. Tight lines bro!!
We caught a couple doing exatly that. I didn't try that method for too long but i will next time!

I would use a knife jig or a slow jig, knife jig is straight down fast jigging and slow jig you can use a slow drop then back to the bottom then rinse and repeat.
You want to be in the bottom half of the water column.
Search up jigging kingfish videos
Try yo yoing a Tady 45. A light aluminum jig works well when you sink it out and run it back to the boat fast, and it's a lot easier on your arms.
I feel like trolling a cable baiter or even a yoyo on a downrigger would work well too....

When yoyo fishing, if you think you’re reeling fast enough, you probably aren’t. Burn it up, but try not to bring it all the way up before dropping back down. Try to do that process as fast as possible. Don’t set the hook and reel though the bite. Also follow your line, that tangle was easily avoidable.
