    Thanks for checking out the video, one thing to mention is this process will work on any ABS controller shell and is not just limited to GCC shells! PLEASE NOTE, if you have these clear Controller Chaos shells DO NOT USE IPA on them. They are not 100% ABS and contain some acrylic. the IPA will cause cracking in the plastics. ONLY CLEAN WITH SOAP AND WATER!!!

    I had talked to Mikey about vapor polishing but last I heard, the plastic started to react to sweat after it had been vapor polished so I never tried it out. Super cool that you were able to do it successfully! Wish I could make it out on the 17th, but I just got back from vacation lmfaooo

    Just some extra info, acetone does not react with all plastics. I've used acetone vapor smoothing on 3d prints made of abs, it does nothing to pla. I used an empty gallon paint can you can buy at home improvement stores. Used magnets to hold paper towels to the inside of the can, placed the object I wanted to smooth on the inside of the lid and laid the can over it

    The process you showed in this video is a great way to make shells glossy, especially for the clear shells how you can see the internals in them easily. The led ring kit is what I can't wait for them to install them on my controller after I install the shinewave mod once it arrives. Hopefully you make more colors for the led ring kits. :)

    Hey Rocker. Loved the vid, so this is the equivalent of retrobrighting but for clear plastic? Does the Acetone vapour remove a layer of the clear plastic or does it just clean it up? At the end of the vid I expected to hear Amy’s voice in the background going, “Hey Rocker where’s that new pot I bought that was on the counter, and have you seen my bottle of Acetone I bought to take my nail varnish off with?” Keep those vids rolling mate 👍🏻

    Would a pyrex/glass, (or worst case) plastic container with an air tight plastic lid work? I assume the acetone fumes would eventually eat away at the lid seal but this is more for a one time use. Also am I right in assuming acetone based nail polish remover would accomplish the same thing?

  • @IronMan_1337
    @IronMan_1337 Před 3 lety +2

    Thank you very much for this great tutorial. I have two little questions:
    - Does vapor polishing only work with abs plastik or with other to?
    - If the shell has a logo or something printed on (like the gamecube logo on the controllers) does it stay after vapor polishing?

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  Před 3 lety +1

      Great questions. It will work on other plastics but you millage will vary. Abs and acrylic blends seem to be the best, but if there is too much acrylic in the controller just be aware that using ipa to clean the plastic could cause other issues.
      2 - the logo will stay on there just fine 🙌

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  Před 3 lety +2

      You should give it a try when you can, it worked shockingly well! I have a feeling the gold/yellow was from the manufacturer having the heat too high when melting the plastic and they burned it so to speak... I am not super knowledgeable with injection molding, but that is my thought as to what happened. Its not super noticeable though and for the cost of these shells, its all good!

    Hi
    The video is nice and its easy to find same process for headlight polishing. Here, just a reminding for everyone
    1. The result will not be as transpanent as well pulishiled arcylic. It looks still haz but just a bit better. The ABS cannot be so transparent as arcylic.
    2. Acetone is flemable and hazard to human. My experience is headache and some bad feeling after breathing the vapor of acetone.

    • @RockerGaming

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  Před 3 lety +1

      Dude hope you were not affected by the flooding! You could do it that way, but it would retain the original finish even with clear resin. If you were going to cast it and make it transparent you would need to either paint it first or sand and polish then mold and cast.
      I will also say, this is 1000x easier than any of the above.
