- The Chicago Bears have signed UDFA RB Ian Wheeler to a 3-year contract according to NFL news reports. The Bears added Wheeler after the 2024 NFL Draft and have inked him to a deal. He’ll get a chance to compete for a Bears roster spot, starting with rookie minicamp this weekend. Bears’ WR Rome Odunze told ESPN that the Chicago Bears’ offense has “no limit”. Odunze pointed to Caleb Williams and the Bears vast options offensively with DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, himself, Cole Kmet and others. Bears head coach Matt Eberflus told Kay Adams of the ‘Up and Adams’ show that Rome Odunze was the highest-ranked player on the Bears draft board when they selected him with the #9 pick.

I said this last year, I event sent it in a comment on the CHBO bears show, and they called me crazy, but I was correct: Team could come out of the gate slow. Last year i was 1000% sure they would. This year I'm not as sure they'll struggle at first.. but the main thing is we gotta understand that just because we are tired of losing, that doesn't speed up the team building process. Last year to expect a team, coming off a 3 win season, to add bunch of new pieces and come out firing on all cylinders was insane. Specially now that training camp is not what it used to be. People didnt understand this, and were convinced everything sucked and poles should be fired after 4 games.
This year this team is far more talented and at least the defense has been together a long time, so I don't expect them to be bad early on.. buuut with a rookie qb, new O coordinator and all that, we gotta expect early bumps. Most importantly: I dont know about you, but I fully believe in Poles and what he's building. During hard times we gotta see the big picture and let this guys work it out

Don’t forget bears fans the offensive line was #2 in run block win rate, #4 in pass block win rate, and #4 in total block win rate. According to advanced analytics we were pretty damn good. We lead the league in time until pass it’s hard to not have high pressure and sack rates when you’re holding the ball that long.
Yeah and in the games that tyson bagent played our line allowed the lowest sack percentage in the NFL. I think a lot of people are gonna be surprised at how good our oline is without fields making them look bad with his awful processing.
@@iankane3732 I don’t hate fields I do think he can become a good QB he just suffers from playing hero ball and at times his receivers can’t get open we had a pretty awful receiver corp about side Cole and Moore. I do agree I can see our Oline being a fringe top ten unit this year if they can stay in structure. My problem is one of Caleb’s biggest criticisms is the fact that he plays hero ball at times so if he has a rough start to his rookie season it could be more of the same but I think since our offense is significantly more loaded with talent and Caleb is a better passer of the ball that it should be better just might have some tough rookie moments.
@@landenroberts6710 I think Caleb played hero ball a lot because of how bad his defense and oline were at USC. He basically had to score 35+ points to win. He shouldn't need to do all that with the talent we have on both sides of the ball.
I’ve been saying this for a while, the Bears O-line was extremely underrated last season because Fields wasn’t getting rid of the ball fast enough

I like Ian Wheeler. I can’t tell hy the stats he’s good, Because those are great numbers. It’s just spread out so far in his college career. It’s like he was hated on or something. Film he looks solid. Plus he ran a “4.3” Howard University Pro Day. 🤷🏿♂️

@johnbrennan4449 I agree with you, with the exception of Travis Homer automatically being cut. The same way, we're investing in special teams with signing Ian Wheeler, Travis Homer is one of the best special teams kick coverage players in the NFL, which is going to take on importance again.
He should be a rb 3 now. That injury surely has left him behind Johnson, and he's not as good of a catcher as him
@@Kevin-ez4or Herbert is much better running back than Johnson. That injury you talking about was the fault of Fields. The qb threw behind a wide open Herbert, he distorted his body to catch that crappy pass and he sprained his ankle.
If the pass was accurate Herbert could have gained 30 yards. Freaking 8 yard pass that qb couldn’t do!

I would have chosen to keep Montgomery over Herbert. Still feel that way but the timing just didn't work out. Just saying I won't be heartbroken IF this is to prepare for a trade situation with Khalil. I'm always rooting for UDFAs and especially cheering for a dude from an HBCU. Hope he makes the squad and gets a chance.

O-Line is still my biggest question…. I think it is much better than they were a couple years ago, but they may have been the worst starting 5 in the league.
They were 2nd in run block win rate and 5th in pass block win rate last year, they allowed the lowest sack percentage in the NFL in the games tyson bagent started. We have 3 young above average starters and 2 plug and play veterans, fields made them look much worse than they actually are. They are not even close to one of the worst starting 5s in the league, they are far closer to being top 10 than they are to being bottom 10.

I agree there should be no limit with the UPGRADE at the receiver position as far as ODUNZE and signing Caleb's WR teammate JACKSON from college and ALLEN to go with MOORE they should take off early and often
I don't think this year would matter because the schedule is easy I think we would just have to wait until next year until we get possibly a harder schedule which normally happens anyways
