Seriously. I get that we follow Kafka and we want what’s best for him, but in what world would a fighting force just accept the monster that they’ve fought for years? From what we see the upper brass would have killed him on the spot.

It was actually supposed to be "Kaiju... Kill" as in, its commanding the kaiju (Kafka) to kill

I had the same feeling too. I think more like it sensed Kaiju No.2's presences via the weapon, to it, Kaiju No.2 is in that room. What are the odds that the weapon is going to take over the Director?

Later in the series he will be partnered with number 10 as his suit(10 is still alive and the first living suit made as his request to five information) and 10 told him that his holding back his true nature that's why he can't make 100% of the suit, after he let him self loose and become in sync with 10 his the first human to attain 100% of the suits release force
The moment Mina said she will wait for him is the best moment in this episode. Felt like a load was lifted off Kafka's mind. All the doubts just evaporated.
Man, the way Kafka's theme crept in as he transformed at the end gave me CHILLS. 🥶
DAMN THE DIRECTING AT THE END WAS SO COOL! Really gave the sense that they unleashed a monster. That version of Kaiju nr8 not only looks to be stronger,but it’s also a bit visually different and bigger as well.
Next week is Kaiju nr8 vs Kaiju nr2,let’s goooooo!
I've been telling my brother that kaiju no 8 is more of an adult side of the shonen troupe. He understands that actions are followed by risks. Next week is gonna be a blast !

I really like that Mina is helping him because deep inside she knows that he is a human being and if someone with that kind of secret and save them even knowing that they might hate them but save them anyway, that was Kafka and she knows that well.

One of the great thing about this show that it's doesn't have people talking while fighting.. I love that.. rather than stretching a fight by talking to each other..

it's confirmed but not confirmed. it will be officially confirmed next week but it's just leaked to be in development (it comes from reliable sources so it's true it just hasn't officially been confirmed but will next episode)
The next aot bro, I have high hopes for this. And don't let anyone try to convince u that the manga falls off, the manga is pretty good and it's actually a very short series at the moment. The story is cooking up.

It's been quite some time since the cliffhanger end of an episode allowed me to realize I was holding my breath. Easily my favourite new show this season and probably this year.

From this episode I think the Kaiju parasite inside of Kafka is anti other Kaiju or is different from Kaiju altogether and would take control over its host if it feels threatened or the host is in danger of dying

Kafka's Kaiju form came out like SkullGreymon and I absolutely love the reference to Digimon. The green eyes, the soulless expression, the reptilian skulled face, even the roar of an undead being. So good.
This episode definitely gave me attack on titan vibes too 😮
What an amazing episode I really do truly love how they did handle the reveal of Kafka being a Kaiju. As this is something that would go to the top of the commend of the DA. So even if his whole squad and the vice and primary captain is on his side. That is not really enough to let him off the hook or be sweep under the rug.
Also liked how they did it as nobody of his team or division has any ill will or bad feeling towards him. As all this time Kafka have been showed like the wise old man of the group. That despite being the weakest still put his everything into becoming better. Which has earned him so much respect. So as he is one of the group everyone who could be able to pull some strings to help him is trying their best to do so for his sake. Also how Mina said that she would still wait for him to fight by her side was so beautiful. As that means that Kafka could still hold onto that hope when everything else has turned into despair for him😢
Also the directors gloves was really awesome. Especially in how you could really tell that it was created from a Godzilla like beast
Season 2 is gonna be insanely peak
Getting to see this animated after spoiling myself about this part was honestly worth. It was so cool, I won’t spoil myself again but this time it was worth. Especially when they use paint like animation in it too, PEAK. I can’t wait to see next week too, next part is my favorite of it.

I read the manga, i knew what was coming, and wa just WAITING to see where the cliffhanger was going to come and as the episode progressed i wanted more but knew it was gonna get pulled form under me, and boy did they give an ending that now has me wanting to fly through the next week. As you said Brandon, S2 or Cor 2 whatever they want to call just give it. We'll take it!
Now my response; Honestly, did not expect the whole division to be behind him, the one scene that really brought the emotion out was his talk with Mina, all the time he thought he'd never be able to stand by her side, but he still asked the question and she said yes, i don't know what i felt but man that was an emotional roller coaster at that point. Even when she spoke with the I'm assuming head analyst as we see her a lot, to put the info together, there wa sno hesitation, no unwillingness, she just did it! The vice captain was hilarious, he was just mad he didn't fight him at full strength and was more pissed at that than anything else that he didn't fight at full strength. The surprise came when Kikoru actually had the kaiju balls to go to her dad and try to keep him alive, only to find out, he's becoming more kaiju than human now.
Now between the Director and Kafka, oh boy, that was a fight and IS still going to be a fight not to miss. Kafka tried but he is no match for that much raw power. Heard of "Jesus take the wheel?" this was "Kaiju take the wheel!" The moment when the parasite took over and we saw the true unrestrained power unleashed, we knew this is more a Kaiju brawl than humans going head to head in a fist fight. The ending of the episode ended on the sweet spot when this was no long a one sided fight, but it's about to go down and property damage is going to start raking in the digits..
A classic in the making, indeed. The animation during the fight, top-notch. Awesome episode again.
The question that a rise for me in this episode is, why does the kaiju parasite want to kill other kaiju? Kafka lost control because the parasite is reacting to the aura of kaiju no.2
Personally, I think Director Shinomiya is a bigger threat to humanity than Kafka. Shinomiya is acting on a deep grudge against kaiju and is not thinking logically. In this case, he is going to destroy the one thing that could turn the tide, just so he can satisfy his OWN desire. He is not acting in the interest of humanity. And that, in my book, makes him public enemy No.1.
The kaiju is basically trying to keep the host alive since the host isn't doing much of a good job doing it

It’s interesting that there using kaiju powers turns into weapons.
Another reason people would have treated him with initial suspicion is because of the existence of Kaiju no 9, as knowing about it's ability to disguise as a human would have stoked everyone's suspicions. How could they know it is actually Kafka in front of them and not a doppelganger?
Kikoru and Reno knew Kafka before that ordeal went down, so they didn't have the same trust issue as the rest of the team.
Also, they apprehended him instead of immediately eliminating him - which already shows a willingness to treat him as a human instead of a mindless beast.

They cut small portions of the manga, but also added some original things. One thing they cut that the reason why Reno said he was willing to do it is because he wants to get stronger by learning from different squads.

From the playbook of the "potential waifu" (because it applies here), what boxes must be checked on Kikoru's father's list in order to spare Kafka? The father's list and the general's list are one and the same. Even though the general is an emotionally distant and absentee father to Kikoru, any man that close to his daughter's heart must be beyond worthy to pass. The duel between Kafka and the Kikoru's father is a darker spin on a usually light-hearted trope found in rom-coms.
Yes, Kaiju no 8 fills the void of Attack on Titan for me. They both have a similar vibe but key differences. I am so happy I gave this a chance... I almost missed out on this!!!!!
Maybe you didn't notice it but what was really interesing this week was what the Kaiju told Kafka when it took over : "Kill Kaijuu, Kill Kaijuu". So it seems that the parasite that got into Kafka's body is set to make Kafka a Kaijuu anti-Kaijuu. Thus Kafka losing control because the parasite reacted to the Kaijuu #2 "aura", coming from the director. I strongly think that if the director lose Kaijuu #2's power, Kafka will be back in the seat. How will Kafka prove he's a man first and his Kaijuu form is some sort of suit for him is still not solved tho.
I think the parasite inside Hibino Kafka took over, because Kafka was in immediate danger and he didn't like that he didn't defend himself with full strength. I think that, since the parasite wants to kill kaijus, (thats what he said), he probably wants to kill the kaiju no 2 energy that kafka felt.
I think the kaiju8 parasite is taking over because it wants to live and sees a treat that Kafka is just defending from, as he said him self, if this punch goes through i would have been dead. Parasites want to live too :D, but he probably will stop before going completely out of control. >> Kikori's call voice will snap him back that's what the ending of the episode felt like. cant wait for next ep.
What an intense way for Kafka to prove that he's not a kaiju. I do like that Mina reassures Kafka that he can still stand beside her.
Loved that they not only accepted him, but they are literally fighting to get him back in their division. Its surprising but given the context it makes sense. That end sequence was so insane though 🤦🏾♂️

This series is fantastic. Totally agree with you about the guns. I love Kafka as a character, but especially in a military organization devoted to killing Kaiju, anyone with any experience is going to be careful, at a minimum. It would be irresponsible to do anything else with other people's lives riding on it.
I totally understand Kafka earning his way into the kaiju defense force as a human. This is his dream, and he wants it like he wants it. He wants it the right way. He wants to earn it as himself.

Also I think it’s funny that they don’t ask mc how he became a kaiju because I think they would be more freaked out if he told them a random bug kaiju flew into his mouth and gave him kaiju powers enough to give him a number kaiju

Kafka i believe at this point is in self preservation mode , the parasite is sensing danger an actully threat tho therr existence so it's taking control to end said threat .

I had to rewatch the fight as soon as it was over, it was incredible! My favorite episode so far
I think if you’re looking for the deep and complex story with constant twists and turns that completely change the direction of the story, like AOT, you’ll be disappointed. But Kaiju No 8 is a seriously great series. If you’re just looking to have fun, you’ll be surprised by the heart of the series, too.
this episode production I.G cooked in that fight also i told you this episode is gonna be fire i forgot they introduced the numbers weapons so early in this fight with isao shinomiya
And if you love the number 3 vice captain as you should just wait until the number 1 vice captain or captain gets introduced forgot his rank that guy is beyond busted and is considered the mirio of this series in my opinion but they do hype him up a lot and the shit he does is insane
This episode was so good. This entire season has far surpassed my hopes. Definitely one of my favorite anime now.
All I will say is just wait because this fight in the manga was crazy the characters literally said it was like two dai kaiju were fighting
One best manga adaptations I've watched (7th Prince is also top tier). Cant wait for S2 to start because the next arc with Kaiju no. 9 is insane.
This show is honestly fantastic. But can someone explain to me what's it is the main objective for yhis story is??, like what is our end goal here?? Annihilating all Kaiju?? cuz that doesn't seem like it will ever happen. Him standing next to Mina seems not that hard with his Kaiju power.

I read the manga after episode 3, so I'm just enjoying the ride
cant have kafka killing of the director and the father of a main supporter. the armor/power suit the director has will get messed up and im sure something along the lines of " if i wanted to kill you i would have already" from kaiju 8 will be spoken.
there isn't much known about it even in the manga but i personally believe he's just saying "kill the kaiju" because for some reason he's like a natural balancer like godzilla, he kills other kaiju and keeps balance by choosing a host, and its "special ability" is sensing other kaiju who are strong and killing them. so he's like a pochita/godzilla/parasyte mix who just HATES kaiju and reacts to them by nature, especially strong ones.
I do believe that it is the kaiju's inherent instinct to stay alive as it see the kaiju in front of it as a threat and the host doesn't really do much of a good job staying alive.

I think the dad who's fighting Kafka at the end is testing him. Hopefully Kafka is able to reign in the Kaiju side in time though.
I am really interested in getting more information about this world though, since it seems as though Kaiju has been around for centuries

I love everything about this anime, except Kafka himself. I love every single moment of this otherwise, so I wish I could like the mc more. Hopefully after some proper character development that'll change
Eren yeager reincarnated as the kaiju number 8, somehow his hatred of titans became distorted enough for it to become the hatred of Kaiju's and thats why number 8 is all for obliterating all Kaiju's it comes across

I wanted Kafka to pop his nipples and tell Director General Shinomiya quit trying to scare me. Kafka is a better man than Isao on so many levels. How is the show going to deal with Kikoru Shinomiya hearing Hikari Shinomiya through the suit. The reason that the suit is so good at healing Kikoru wounds is her mother died in the suit and she is still there as part of the suit.
Kaiju No. 8 is far from being the next AOT. That’s not a bad thing however.

I feel like the director and the higher ups are kind of dumb though? Like, it should be very easy to verify that Kafka was born a human. He has a birth certificate, identifiable parents, and should have over 3 decades of medical history. So if he was truly a human that turned into a kaiju, shouldn't they do more to investigate why? Killing him doesn't give them any answers. What's stopping whatever happened to him from happening to more people?
It's got some funny dialogue but it's following the plot of AoT TOO closely for my tastes. All the characters are like 1 for 1 with AoT counterparts. I bet there's even a human kaiju within the third division.
