Yay finally cc Kernel! Love that effect :D Used that in my "Born Yesterday" Project to get some of the glow-reflections, by crushing the cc kernel values and then using that for the glow.
I am a computer science student and I had an elective called digital image processing in my previous semester. We had to learn these matrices and the math behind these effects. I always wanted to have a way to tweak these values and affect some image in real time. There are some web tools available but I am glad to know these are natively available in After Effects and Photoshop. My only regret is that I have mostly forgotten the math now and I will have to revise everything.
basically, a useless effect. Instead, you would create a tutorial about a free color grading plugin for After Effects. There are tons of plugins out there and most of the time it's very frustrating to choose a better suited one.

This mathematical process is called "convolution", where the surrounding pixels are averaged! I learned about it from Nuke :-)

Any of the blue effects. I would start with gaussian blue.
