About that first tip, there's a ton more reasons why doing the eyes first is a good thing. It lets the skin prep sink in and reduces the risk of pilling. I think that the way the skin looks makes or breaks the whole application so I like leaving the skin until the end to make sure it's fresh

Love your advice! Sometimes I feel awkward when I'm doing wedding party makeup because I feel like I'm not talking to the client enough and I may appear to be standoffish, when in reality I'm really just trying to focus and do the makeup fast! Good to know its okay to be silent sometimes! I hope the clients understand ;)
I time myself for 40 minutes for each look too! The tip on fewer brushes and organizing your workstation is really helpful so I spend less time searching for what I need. Thank you for this video. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

I have 2 mini pop up garbage bins from Amazon that I use with tiny trash bags. So helpful for keeping my station clean.

Great tips! Of everything I do, timing is my greatest struggle but mostly because from job to job, I have to adapt to different provisions for setting up and that often leads to me getting disoriented on where my things are - then I end up spending way too much time searching for stuff. Learning to do the most with the least is critical and ALWAYS putting my brushes in a cup - never putting them down on a surface - is crucial for always knowing exactly where to reach for them.
As someone whose just starting out, I find your videos so helpful! I've been a painter for years so time management is a serious struggle for me bc I could literally paint the same face for 3 hours 🤣

Through practice a lot has improved in fact everything has improved but my timing!!! My problem is that I'm an obsessive blender and I spend way too much time on the eyes and then I rush through the rest. Another thing is the talking to clients... I cannot just talk and work I have to always stop and talk and if I do both I feel that I'm slower because I'm not 100%focused. But it's so important for building a good big strong client base to aside from your makeup being great, to also be friendly. So it's tough😃
I have been invited to be one of the muas at a photographer open day this Sunday and I'm soo nervous about delaying people as everything is booked and timed. But your video makes so much sense and such good tips. I'm definitely going try them out and I will give you feedback on sunday evening about if I was able to implement your tips and how they helped. My assistant is the one who keeps my setup organized when I’m in between clients washing my hands. It’s hard. I live in Colombia and my assistant is my sister in law and the other day she ruined a makeup that was already done while applying lashes and it delayed everything. ❤️ but yes ! Time is key. It’s hard for me to not talk while doing makeup but sometimes we get so into our conversations that it takes me longer to finish.
This really helps! I've been watching your videos before helping a friend do makeup for his actors in his student film. I was a bit discouraged because i felt like i was being slow but you saying that speed (and precision) comes with practice is really reassuring :)

I also keep gaffers tape in my kit, I use it to tape my trash bag to the table and have close while working and if I’m flying I use it to cover the latches on my train case so they don’t get broken at gate check. Gaffers tape is super easy to rip off, sticks well and leaves no residue 😜

I'm so glad I found your channel I'm a beginner makeup artist in training 😊 your videos are very informative! I am definitely on the slower side.
All great videos, so helpful! You will be helping out a lot of MUA's. I do Indian Bridal work, I am quite fast but it takes a good 1.5 hours to do amazing Indian Bridal. I tell my clients, sorry I won't talk too much now because I need to focus on your look, please don't mind but we will definately chat once we are done and most of them are happy with that. I carry my ipad and speakers and play relaxing music in the background to avoid any awkwardness :) xo

i just love your videos! Even for artists who have been doing makeup for awhile, these videos are still inspiring to watch and they are a nice refresher. Some questions for you: Do you use airbrush? How do you feel about airbrush vs. traditional? what do you tell clients who ask for airbrush?

Hi I just found your channel and have found it really helpful. I am fresh out of Hugh school and now seem like a child in the industry. I somehow landed a job for a music video and was wondering if you had tips on how to do it fast and make it last. Especially for the dancers as there is also some close up shots so I don’t want to make them look too caked or not enough powder that their face melts off. Love your videos 💕
Congrats on your gig! This is all stuff you have to learn in time. Stay organized at your station that will help with speed - but everything else you’ll have to figure out on your own! Speed comes with practice, and knowing how much makeup to apply comes from seeing your work on camera. This will be a great learning experience for you!!! Stay on schedule and make sure your client is happy!

I'm still struggling with time! I find myself taking 1hr - 1 1/2 hrs Soft -Dramatic Ivlist the time frame on my Web site based on the type of look so my clients are prepared. Talking seems to be my downfall 😣 I slow down a lot chatting, when I work with music I seem to work so much faster, I get in a zone and this helps. Would it be rude to play music with all my clients? I'm trying to think of everything lol Also I was thinking about just working out of my Zuca bags instead of setting up to speed up my packing time when traveling to a client, haven't tried it yet...thoughts? Thank you! I really appreciate your feedback 😊
Great questions, timing is really hard to cut down and it does take a lot of practice to get faster so don't be too hard on yourself. You can definitely play music as long as your client is ok with it. I work out of my Make Up For Ever Train case a lot and it does cut down on time so try it first and see if that works for you!
