  • Going Home was one of several movies filmed in the Wildwoods. This particular scene starts in what was the Glenwood Bowl, located at the foot of the ramp at Glenwood and the Boardwalk and stars Robert Mitchum and Jan Michael Vincent. The bowling ally was located on the second floor of the facility where years later it became a roller skating rink. The scene continues outside of the building, carrying out onto the street and under the Boardwalk.

That's my uncle who says "Come on Harry, they won't knock themselves down." Pretty funny! He's been gone for sometime now. RIP Uncle Bobby.

When did this bowling alley open and close? How many lanes did it have? This film was shot not too long before the current Wildwood Island bowl opened which was either 74 or 76.

The Glenwood Ave., bowling alley, was open 'till 1976/77. It also had approximately, 12 lanes. The Wildwood bowling alley, that stands where it is now, opened it 1978, or so. Was built right after, the fancy french restaurant 'Antoine's', burned down, at the same spot, in the summer of '77.

Did the building eventually become the Boardwalk Mall in the late 70's-early 80's?

No, Richard. The Boardwalk Mall is 7 blocks south on Garfield Avenue and was formally the Hunt's Regent Theatre. The bowling alley in this movie clip was located on Glenwood Avenue. That building was recently demolished - just a vacant lot right now.

funchase You’re correct! For some reason I read Garfield not Glenwood
