I’m 58 and have been playing for 45 years. I love seeing young kids picking up the guitar and seeing them getting into playing with others in bands. I don’t get to gig all that much anymore, but when I see these young people getting into it, it brings me back to when I was that age and getting into it, and the excitement of playing and saving money to get better gear. Was a great time of life. Was a long time Strat player until I purchased a Tremonti SE for my son. I played it myself a few times and was hooked. Ended up getting one for myself. And I’m kinda digging these Satin finish CE’s too. Good job PRS !! 👍🏻 And keep the youngins rockin!
Not happy to see negative comments on the students. We are all in the process of learning, good on them I think they are doing brilliantly. Good luck and I hope all beginner's achieve what ever aspires them. Great video.
I love this video from you guys. The Negative Neeners at the bottom don't get the point but I do and I think CZcams is missing content like this for the people this is targeting. I'm 33. When I started playing in 2006 it was the usual story of the $99 junker from GC that just fights you when you're at your weakest. I noticed a lot of the bands I was into played PRS, I went and checked them out. Cried that I couldn't afford what's now called a Core model, but was happy to see the SE line. That SE I still have in the rack to this day. It's been to Canada, 4 states including some time in the Berklee Summer Program when I was in high school, and a ton of venues around Seattle. It's had about 6 pickup swaps and a headstock refinish. When I met Paul, he said "this is a particularly good SE, don't ever get rid of it." and I never will. So I couldn't speak more highly of, and be more ready to evangelize my beliefs, regarding students getting a PRS SE early on. A new or prospective student is going to be a lot more comforted by this video than of a TikTok star super-shredding all over the place after saying (lying) that they have played for 6 months and are self-taught. The teacher in this is absolutely correct that getting a teacher is always a benefit, if you can afford it. Even if you're a good learner. Wisdom can't be bought and you won't always know when you read it out of a book or see it on CZcams.

I’m 69yrs old now and at age 16 my first guitar was an early ‘60s Futurama3 (you can find them on CZcams) which was worn out really. I now have the sort of guitars I lusted after then, and love them all, but I still can’t play nearly as well as I would like. I bought a PRS Custom24SE recently and it is now my favourite most playable guitar.
Can't play an instrument, but I sang with a variety of adult & adult/teen bands with Priddy Academy about 12, 13 years ago...... most fun ever. Our son was also in several bands back then too - loved it. Still network with my old bandmates all these years later even though I'm not in any bands anymore. So much better "life experience" than all the youth sports we were ever involved in. I highly encourage looking up this program. Rock on y'all. You're doing an invaluably good thing for the arts.
I came to it late as well, I'm 47 and just started playing a couple years ago. Still consider myself a beginner but having a heck of a lot of fun learning it. Stay with it as long as you're having fun!
I think that learning any instrument, especially guitar, gives you a long term resilience to taking on challenges. No matter what level you’re at, each time you sit down to learn something new it’ll keep your ego in check. You stick at it, and your confidence starts to improve as you see results. You should your friends, and you’re suddenly a damn rockstar. No feeling like it!
This is honestly an incredible video. I started playing when I was 13 (now 28) and I resonate with this a ton. PRS has done a phenomenal job creating a middle ground that simply didn’t exist when I was a kid. I started on Fenders (single coils) but was a hard rock/downturned metal player and struggled a lot with the noise. I felt stuck as a player, because Gibson had the corner on the market for humbucker guitars but I hated how heavy & unwieldy they were and the necks were too fat for me. PRS is the perfect middle ground for players to discover the sound THEY like and go for it.
This video is fantastic! I love the kids testimonials. Makes me wish I'd started earlier. But better late than never, and still validates working with an instructor.
A PRS is the perfect first guitar i mean if u have the money atleast i started on a squier strat and its more than enough but prs is just awesome and good too play and im very happy woth the PRS i bought
After playing acoustic for over 50 years (I'm 66), last week I bought my first electric: a 2008 PRS SE Singlecut. She's got locking tuners. She's red. She feels very comfortable, and she responds well to my touch. Her pick-up cover is tarnished, she's missing the other cover. All of her metal is tarnished, and she's got a ding in her headstock. I don't know how to use an amplifier, so I barely plugged her in at the shop. The tag said $450, which is a bit more than my $300 budget. I held and strummed so many guitars, but I kept going back to that PRS SE Singlecut. I told the proprietor/tech/salesman (it's a one man shop) to ring her up. He looks at the tag and says I can do $350 on this guitar. Then he restrung her and cleaned the electronics, threw in a new PRS gig bag, and I was out the door with my first electric guitar! I decided on a Boss Katana Mk II 100, bought new at GW for $319. For the past week I have been amazed by this guitar! As I learn about the amp, this guitar sounds so freaking good. Despite my total inexperience with electric guitars and amplifiers, despite my poor playing, the guitar sounds, feels, and plays beautifully. PRS!
I'm 36, been playing since I was 15, but I'm not a fancy player at all. There are kids who've played for six months, they're 20x the guitarist I am. Doesn't matter though, I just enjoy playing The first guitar I bought for myself was an SE semi hollow, the first gen flattop one. Still have it, it's wonderful ❤
Keep rocking. You don’t need to be a fancy player to enjoy playing an instrument. Yes, there are many gifted people who are amazing guitarists but sometimes the simple is the most beautiful. Look at David Gilmour, he’s not the fanciest guitarist but his solos are so simple and yet so emotional and that makes all the difference

Been playing for 15 years still have my 2008 MIM rosewood Stratocaster. Drop some money on something you’ll enjoy to play. Don’t have to go all out but especially if you really feel you’ll stick with it.
I would say very strongly as far as it goes for buying a guitar for a young kid around 6 or 7, it is not just finding a guitar that feels good for he or she but a very strong durable guitar. I can speak from experience because within an hour of owning my first guitar, I dropped a very heavy tuner on it. Through the years I nocked it of the stand, bumped it on walls and so on. That guitar was a poor Ibanez, you have to watch out with that brand though because as said in the video, they can have very high action. Luckily mine was set pretty low, but it's something to look out for. Other than that Ibanez is a great brand for that age group of 6-7. I started playing at 7 maybe 6, no one in my family can remember 😂 but I still have that guitar. I dont play it often if at all anymore but it was my first guitar and its sentimental to me because i spent hours on it. It is truly the start of guitar many guitar legends in my book.

Mine was an 80s Korean-made Epiphone superstrat. As long as your instrument is of decent quality, then the main thing is actually putting the damn thing in your hands and playing.

Depends on your budget. If you can tell what seems reasonable to you, someone can help ;)
If there's a desire to play guitar, get a good guitar and get it set up for optimal playing and get a good amp.

Your first guitar should always be an American standard strat. The current one is called the professional 2.

Strat’s are fine but you should buy what excites you. When I eventually bought a strat I didn’t like it.
