I already have two copies of 2001 on 4K, bluray and DVD, but, can't resist getting this edition. I first read 2001 when I was at school in the late 1970s and was blown away. Didn't really fully understand it, but have read it many times since and get something new each time. I didn't see the movie at the cinema until the 1980s and loved it. I actually managed to go see it at the cinema again a few weeks ago.
I agree about 2010 - it is an underrated movie - as with 2001, I read the book first, which explains a lot left out from the both movie and book of 2001. I hope they do a 4K release of 2010 - it deserves one.

Hey Jeff. I already had the Titans of Cult 4K release of 2001 and just let yourself I could not resist picking this spectacular edition up. Definitely the best release I've seen for it. Like I said in the video the artwork is absolutely phenomenal but I was slightly underwhelmed by some of the items you got inside it particularly when you stack it up against some of the other releases from the film vault. I never had The pleasure of seeing it on the big screen and I'm hoping someday to do so. What an experience that must be. As a matter of fact I would love to see 2010 on the big screen as well. Back the back with 2001. What a night that would be. A huge thank you for taking the time to stop by and say hello. I really appreciate it

It's one of those 4K releases where if you don't enjoy the movie the picture alone will get you through it. It really looks astonishing

Like you watching the film the first I couldnt comprehend what the film was all about. But it is a Cinematic masterpiece.
It's one of those movies that requires multiple viewings and I was far too young to understand it the first time I seen it. I’ve just got the standard release, but have watched it 2 or 3 times since I got it. It’s a great Sunday afternoon film and the 4k image is one of the best I’ve seen. This film has always had great transfers though and I even remember watching the DVD version on a projector many years ago and marvelling at the black level.

This whole Film Vault Range set is a real nail biter. I also ordered this set from Amazon UK, but am still waiting. I am happy to report I did eventually receive “Jaws” a week ago and I am so impressed with that release. The Crystal destroyed the cardboard inside more so than the “BladeRunner” edition I received last year, but it’s repairable.
The biggest surprise I got yesterday was the “Apollo 13” film vault showed up from “Vice Press” with the additional poster that was offered. The surprise was not that I finally received the package, but as my first Vice Press order ever I was shocked to see how well the item was packed and shipped. The shipping from them was over the top a premium and absolutely no damage was sustained with that Crystal…Everything was received in pristine condition. The poster was extremely high quality as well, and shipped in a robust poster cylinder not common place as far as posters go. Very impressive shipping from “Vice Press”

I really need to check out that vice press Edition and I am so ecstatic to hear that it arrived and no damage whatsoever. I could only imagine how relieved you must have felt. Believe it or not but I just got a message saying my Apollo 13 release has been delivered today so really looking forward to getting home and seeing what it looks like. It's a shame about your Jaws Edition but as you said if it's repairable then it's not too bad because as you know it is sold out now. I really wish they would do something to the crystals inside and somehow better support it. Hopefully someday they will listen to the feedback. They have to be aware of it by now. Thanks for the review Keith. This is one we skipped on with this latest run of film vaults as we had a nice set already. Our shawshank and apollo 13 sets were damaged (usual places) and jaws, by some miracle, came in mint condition. Zavvi where trying to deliver Apollo 13 last Monday. Must have borrowed Amazon's stock hey 😂 be interested to see what wave 3 brings. Hopefully films i dont like as my wallet can't take much more. Saying that, for the cost of them and the fact that the majority we own are damaged. Not sure I'll be getting any more, unless they switch the design/packaging to be a bit more robust.
Hey Ian. I'm hoping when it comes to the next batch of film vault releases there is only going to be four of them next year. I really hope they don't get greedy and start bringing out loads of them a year. Great to hear that you got your Apollo 13 release and I know its frustrating when it comes to the damage around the Crystal but thankfully it wasn't too bad on my 2001 release. This is a gorgeous box set Keith. Like you I didn't get this as a kid but it's one you have to watch a few times as you get older to fully understand it. Stunning artwork inside. I love HAL 9000 on the disc box, very classy. I really enjoyed 2010 as well, I watched it about a year ago, it had a great cast Roy Scheider, John Lithgow, Helen Mirren and Keir Dullea from the original. Great stuff.
I have to admit Gary I was very surprised to see in the comments section how much love there is for 2010. I stand By what I said in the video it's probably the most underrated sequel of all time. 2001 is definitely a movie that needs to be Revisited numerous times. I have the film on 4k, and you're absolutely right. It looks almost like it was made today. But going from that film to 2010 was shocking as far as the video quality goes. 2010 hasnt got a 4k remaster has it? I haven't been able to find one atleast.
Yeah there is no question about it it's a huge downgrade in picture quality when you go on to 2010 and it's only because the 4K of 2001 looks spectacular. The Blu-ray of 2010 is actually quite decent but it seems very poor when you stack it up against the original. No sign of a 4K release yet but I'm hoping it will happen

Yeah like I said in the video David we grew up loving the sequel and even now I still prefer it over the original. Having said that you wouldn't have the sequel if it wasn't for the original and to better understand the sequel you really have to check out the original. Had my delivery this morning of both my 2001 & Apollo 13. I'm ashamed to say that I've never actually seen 2001 before, but now I own it, I have no excuse now.
It is very lovely artwork too. Like you, my Film Vault collection looks amazing together as it grows. Now wondering what other titles in the future would be released. I would love to see Gremlins, Batman '89, King Kong '33, or even 2005 version in there somewhere. Are there any films that you'd love to see in this Film Vault collection?

Lovely! You are truly *THE ONE COLLECTOR TO RULE THEM ALL...* 😁 Ah yes, I am quite a fan of Peter Hyams. Some of his films I feel are very much underrated such as 'RELIC' and the more obscure but I feel quite good 'SOUND OF THUNDER' and the very fun 'TIMECOP'
'2010' would clearly be a more easy watch. '2001' is an artistic masterpiece as only could be portrayed by the great Stanley Kubrick, but yeah, '2010' is a far more accessible movie.

Wow Sound of Thunder. I never thought anyone would mention that movie to me in the comment section. Such a shame because it had a fantastic premise but unfortunately they ran out of money while making it. I remember it bombed at the box office and bombed hard. But yes Peter Hyams has directed some amazing movies.
Trust me if there was ever an excuse to upgrade to 4K 2001 is the movie. It actually looks like it was shot today that's how incredible it looks. If you do decide to cross over make sure this will be one of your first pickups. It will justify your upgrade to 4K.

Fantastic unboxing Keith and they really have done this film service with this amazing set with a ton of goodies in there 😀👌 I saw this at my local independent cinema at the tale end of August and it looked glorious man; seen it twice at the cinema; looks stunning and can’t wait to see it on 4K hopefully before the year is up 😀🤞

Waiting for my copy to arrive- Amazon UK says it will arrive Oct. 13th....my JAWS arrived in great condition as did my Enter the Dragon LE Steelbook and the Arrow Psycho set....I love 2010, really want a 4K !

So mostly it’s Universal and warner brothers that are putting the special Edition’s out so far. very beautiful set
Yes it's mostly them but E1 entertainment brought out 1917. I'm not sure how many Studios are behind the film vault range

They seem to be choosing one film from classic directors and I’m told John Carpenter and John Landis are in the pipeline so I wouldn’t be surprised to see an American Werewolf in London and from John Carpenter, who knows? Halloween, Escape From New York or my biggest hope - The Thing.
My god I hope that is true. An American Werewolf would be a fantastic edition and if there was one John Carpenter release please let it be Halloween. Looks fantastic Keith but came at the worst possible time for me and I had to cancel it along with Apollo 13 because I don't know how much I'll need for the sf sale. I kind of thought since last year's film vaults are still in stock and they made more of those, same will happen here. I wish you got 2001 of 6000.

Hey John. Wow I have to admit that is incredibly flattering to read something like that and I really appreciate it. My review for the Exorcist won't be until the end of October because I have the deluxe release pre-ordered and it's not out until then. Unfortunately I won't be picking up the others because I was devastated to find out that there is no HDR with that release and for me it's HDR that gives us the upgrade when it comes to 4K so I can't imagine it looking any better than a regular Blu-ray. It was such a shame and I was really looking forward to it.
Completely agree with you Keith. 2001 is a masterpiece, but given the choice, 2010 was always the film I went back to.

Yeah unfortunately Jaws sold out quite quickly so I'm not surprised to hear that it's going for crazy money. The 2001 release is phenomenal and easily the best artwork I've seen on the film vault range.

Unfortunately I don't think that's ever going to happen because I'm almost certain second sight are bringing that out. Would love to see it get the 4K treatment
Still waiting Amazon UK to ship mine. For some reason they they have been very lazy what it comes to shipping, at least in my case. The Wicker Man collector's edition was in stock for a long time until they shipped it to me today.
I completely understand where you are coming from because I was meant to get four pre-orders this week and it looks like I'm only getting one which is 2001 A Space Odyssey. I'm not sure what the hell is going on with Amazon and I'm starting to wonder why the hell am I paying Prime when I have to wait a week to get my orders. It's very frustrating

@@millerman9991I would prefer some more love for the more obscure Carpenter films like Prince of Darkness and In the mouth of Madness. There are plenty of great releases of the thing and Halloween even though I like those movies more.
Yeah in the Mouth of Madness would be incredible but it's too obscure and I could never see it get that kind of treatment as much as I would love to see it

I remember being very under-whelmed by 2001 when I first saw it (on TV) but I know I was too young to appreciate it at the time...years later I discovered 2010 and absolutely loved it ! Like I said in the video I was far too young watching this movie for the first time and it went completely over my head. I hadn't a clue what was going on. The strange thing is though when I watched 2010 I knew exactly what was happening in that. Thankfully I stuck with 2001 because it is a masterpiece and I love watching both back to back. So dreadfully sorry as relatives visited for several days once we talked again and honestly I didn't have much "reply time" to get back to the previous gentleman that replied to me. But yes he's directed several cinema classics, to be sure!! Such as: A Clockwork Orange, his adaption of The Shining, the under discussed Barry Lyndon and also 2001. Indeed the first half of Full Metal Jacket is also _VERY_ fascinating in spots.
And while I didn't ever really care for Eyes Wide Shut, he is still a Giant of Cinema. Sadly they'll pretty much _NEVER_ be another Stanley Kubrick since the art form began to change in the mid '90s as he prepared his final film.
@@He_Loves_Horror His movies are very different...even if you don't particularly enjoy one on the first viewing you find it sticks in your head and you know you'll be going back to watch it again at some point ! EWS I watched (for the first time !) last year, it was very interesting to see a movie made on that subject in 1999...from the perspective of 2022 ! Barry Lyndon I also only saw for the first time last year...I enjoyed it whilst not having a whole lot of sympathy for the main character ;-) I want to watch that one again soon 🙂"The Shining" never really grabbed me on my first watching but it has grown on me a little bit more every time I've seen it...and I'm a fan now 🙂It looks great on 4K too !

Hey Michael. I will definitely be reviewing prey but unfortunately it's not out over here until November. I still haven't seen the movie and looking forward to it.
So Peter Hyams didn't answer the questions posed in 2001 it was the author Arthur C Clarke who wrote the book that was the sequel 2010:Odyssey Two Hyams based his screenplay fairly closely to it even some dialogue was exactly what was in the book.
I think what I was talking about how fateful Peter Hyams sequel was to the original. It really felt like a continuation of the Stanley Kubrick movie. Never found out how Stanley Kubrick felt about the sequel. Something's telling me he would have been happy with it
@@millerman9991Stanley Kubrick didn't want to make it as Arthur C Clarke had spoken to him, Hyams asking for Kubrick's blessing at first he said he didn't care and then later said go and do it. - so ihe got his approval but not exactly his blessing. Hyams was in contact with Clark throughout the fllming and consulted with him.
I'm not surprised to hear that Kubrick didn't want to make it's the way Arthur C Clarke did. Just look at the shining for a great example and how different it is to the King novel particularly it's ending. I would love to have seen what the Stanley Kubrick sequel would have been like.

This looks very nice Keith. I didn't buy this one as I have the previous 3 disc 4k box set with booklet and cards. When 2010 came out in 1984, my brother and I went to see it at the cinema. We were in our teens then and we both preferred it over the first one. Nowadays, I love them both equally but for very different reasons, it's like comparing ALIEN and ALIENS isn't it?. By the way, I also have that HMV Premium edition blu ray of 2010. One thing I did notice, the SFX in 2010 look worse than the ones in 2001.(16 year gap). Take it easy mate. Gaz.

What a stunning release. But I never get why the age ratings has to be so prominent on all the covers in England and Germany. It totally ruins the artwork and spines for me.
One thing I noticed with my Italians Jaws release that it doesn't have the number on the spine.
I also have the same problem with Apollo 13 and Amazon UK. Still waiting for the credit card payment and the shipment
What a annoys me even more when it comes to the ratings particularly on this release is when you check out all the other ones that I have they all have two ratings down the bottom but this one only has one so it looks somewhat out of place. I know it's a minor little gripe but it does annoy me sometimes. As for my Apollo 13 release it looks like I might be getting it Saturday. A huge fingers crossed on that one because if there's any damage it's sold out and I cannot get a replacement
Don’t think I’ve watched this since I was a kid and it seemed very slow and boring all of those years ago. But this movie still often gets talked about so I shall revisit it and watch it again in 4K UHD and see what I make of it now as an adult.
I was the exact same when I was younger. I thought it was boring and I didn't understand a thing that was going on. But I stuck with it over the years and I'm happy I did because now it's one of my go-to sci-fi movies along with its sequel. Definitely due a revisit my friend and if you can check it out on 4k. It's breathtaking

@JungleJeffarnold again I used to think that way when I watched it when I was younger but when you peel the layers back you will notice there is quite a bit going on and I definitely appreciate it a hell of a lot more now than I did

I may be kind of weird but i actually prefer 2010 but theyre both great films. 2010 is just easier to watch and i love that HAL redeemed himself by sacrificing himself for the crew. Never thought I'd get emotional and cheer for an AI lol great pickup Keith
I absolutely agree with you. Right from the get-go I completely understood what was going on in 2010 where it took me so many times to grasp everything that was happening in 2001. Just like yourself I love the way HAL redeemed himself in the end. The ending itself is absolutely beautiful aswell.
I loved Hal in 2001 but I thought 2010 was more entertaining. The special effects looked overly sharp and kind of fake in the 2001 4K.
That's the only problem when it comes to a 4K disk that looks this good the special effects might not look as great. Not taking anything away from them because they were so ahead of it's time
