A common problem with Samsung Galaxy Phones is the "Warning: Camera Failed" error message when the rear camera stops working. We show you the simple steps to go through to get this fixed.
Note: I go through the possible ways to fix this in order of "least impact on your phone"... i.e. the first method doens't change anything, last method (which actually worked for me) resets some settings.
S7 edge here, reset all settings did the trick for me. Really appreciate the tip, now I can take more cat pictures!

Thanks heaps for this!!! My camera also failed today, just 3 days after purchasing the phone. Before fixing the problem with your help (the last method also worked for me), I contacted the Samsung support and they actually told me to just return the phone where I bought it, since they could not help me. Pretty unbelievable - such tools!!!

Mine was doing this and here is something I observed and an interesting solution. Nothing I did following all the suggestions, hints, tips here on CZcams and across the Web would work. I even factory reset the phone and still it happened to the point where I was considering taking it to the shop for repair.
It was at this point that I noticed while going through various menus / apps etc that in the swipe down notification tray that the "torch" icon was showing it was in the "on" position i.e the icon was highlighted in blue but no amount of pressing it would cancel it however the LED camera flash was not physically on that is to say there was no light shining.
I have the "All In One" toolbox app installed whereupon it gives you the option to install a Torch plugin so I decided to give it a go and installed it. The torch plugin gives you two options to control the main front screen which it lights up as a bright plain white wallpaper and the other option to actually control the camera flash LED with an on / off toggle button. I turned on the LED and it lit up (as per a torch) and turned it off.
I then checked the "torch" icon in the notification drop down menu and it had switched off and wasn't highlighted in blue. I then clicked the camera and it switched back on and returned to normal operation.
So that was my discovery and it worked, so hope that helps anyone.

Boot loader worked for me. Mine will be going back to Samsung to sort the problem as it's probably going to happen again as the software needs updating. Thank for the video 😄

Watched a lot of videos on CZcams and applied their methods but it didn't work until I saw this video.
I just updated my software and I started having problem with the camera.Resetting my settings as shown in this video did the magic for me and now my camera is working.
I just want to say thank you. I decided to try the last suggestion at first, I got the same camera failed reply but then I restarted it and just like you stated. My camera is working and at this point it does not seem like any of my other settings have changed. Again, Thank you for sharing. BTW I have a Samsung 5.

Before I updated my phone it was fine , after the update my camera doesn't focus and shakes

Samsung s5 mini doesn't have the option setting reset,it only has factory reset.

I just saw your youtube on fixing the camera failed error. I tried all your suggestions and it worked on my S7! However, after turning off my phone for the night and then turning the phone back on the next morning, the error came back! I was wondering if you had any other suggestions. Yes, I reset it back to factor setting and that didn’t work either. If I download another camera app from Google Play would that work? If so, got any recommendations for that app?

even factory reset from the root menu has not helped me. it must be my main cam, because i was able to turn on selfie-mode and use the "selfie-cam" by a edge-function-button
However - if i switch to my main cam the error-message appears after a few seconds of black screen.

I deleted a lot of my stuff on my phone storage (images), then force stopped and cleared data of camera and then restarted the phone. Worked for me!

Hi there and thanks for the video. My problem is that every time this happens I wipe the cache and it works again but just as a temporary solution, it fails again and again... It's really annoying tbh

Thanks for posting this, last trick worked for me.
I believe the last thing he tried only worked because the issue was with his SD card, which was previously linked to the camera to store the images. Once he reset the phone settings it removed that SD link which fixed the problem. You wouldn't think that was the case right away because once you reset up the SD link again it still works. However, that is only because it was a temporary glitch, which un-linking happens to fix.
Mine started after installing software update.i doubt if the problem is coming as a result of memory card used as the camera storage because mine was on phone inbuilt memory and I still experienced that same problem. However, resetting my settings solved everything

This is the only thing that I found that works! I was going to replace the camera. Even went through all the hassle of taking it apart to get the camera out. Right before I purchased a new one I thought just maybe this is still a software issue...yea!!! Thank you this is awesome.

Smart stay is causing this issue simple solution is to turn of smart stay and restart your phone . camera should work..

+ujgilani Thanks mate I was reading the comments as watching the video only got to this first bit then saw this comment luckily. It's good to know what setting causes it instead of resetting all the settings back to factory. This was the fix for me though interesting bug.

My S8 camera has been intermittent. I tried many things including this list, and restoring the phone to factory fresh. Camera remained sometimes working and sometimes not. I finally got a clue. The camera always seems to open when I am on my home wifi, but not when I am away from home. I also have an issue that the phone does not reboot properly. Sometimes it just keeps on showing the Samsung splash screen again and again many times until finally booting.
Note that if I launch the camera by double tapping power button when it is asleep, then it works. Seems that the camera needs data connection to launch unless it is launched direct from sleep.

Ok, what if the regular camera works fine when you troubleshoot it, but once you turn it to selfie it goes black and won't work again. My gs6 edge is doing that every time I try to use the front camera.
