    I great review! Thank you. I’m currently using the Eufy doorbell adjust because it is rated for outdoor use and I am able to pair it with my outdoor pedestrian gate eufy door lock. Would this Wemo doorbell be safe to be installed on an exposed wall?

    I recently discovered that my Wemo doorbell requires 16V / 30VA. My home's original transformer was 16V 10VA. Thats likely a pre-smart doorbell transformer. The doorbell's manual calls for "16v or 24v", some of their website FAQs list the more specific requirement for 30VA. During initial installation, I tested my doorbell wires and found 16V, thought I was all set. Upgrading the transformer appears to have greatly improved my doorbell's reliability, dare I say it fixed it. The thing has not dropped offline since I installed that new transformer on 12/10/23. Would love some feedback/comments on this.

    How is the response time on this doorbell? The problem I'm having with the Netatmo Doorbell is, it takes a long time to actually get the feed (when it works, most of the time it doesn't). It takes approximately 5 seconds to get the notification and another 10 seconds for the feed to load. I'm hoping to see a better response time on the Wemo so I can finally switch over and actually being able to see / talk to the person at the door.

    • @AppleInsider
      @AppleInsider  Před 2 lety

      In the video you see how long it takes to open the feed from the Home app. Sometimes it takes longer, but that feels pretty typical.

    • @yuenw
      @yuenw Před 2 lety +1

      @@AppleInsider Sorry I wasn't really clear. Opening the feed using the Netatmo doorbell doesn't take too long either (I'd say a second or two, depending on the wireless connection). Just like you've shown in the video. The problem is when someone is actually pressing the doorbell. The delay varies but usually it's around 5 seconds till I get a notification from the Home app. Tapping the notification opens the Home app but it takes at least 10 to 30 seconds till the feed is connected. Most of the time it doesn't even connect.
      This is ok if I'm home and I can open the door directly, but it's a problem when I'm not home and want to talk to the person. Most of the time they already left by the time it connects.
      Also another thing you could test is what happens when multiple users trying to open the feed. With Netatmo, only one user is able to connect to the feed which is also quite annoying.
      Other than that, nice review and hope this doorbell can replace my Netatmo doorbell :).

      Haven’t had any problems with my Logitech Doorbell, I just wish Logitech wasn’t so damn lazy - in that, I wish you could access the recordings in an app outside of HomeKit, making it easier to search through footage. The lack of *any* updates since the day I bought mine (at launch btw) is also my biggest concern. Otherwise it’s been an absolute pleasure.

    • @AppleInsider
      @AppleInsider  Před 2 lety

      I like the Netatmo because it has multiple other storage options, outside of iCloud. You can store on a Micro SD card, FTP server, dropbox, etc. I like the Wemo because of the wide field of view. Logitech is best because it supports HomeKit Secure Video but is priced at only $199, making it the cheapest. Which of those is most important is up to you....

      The Logitech was a 90% fail for me. Almost always, Home says "No Response - This camera is not responding" - but then it works sometimes - it even recorded one delivery, which I want all the time, but only got once in the few months I've had it. I keep hoping that software upgrades will fix it (based on things I've read online), but I think I'm ready to give up on it. I also have the Logitech Circle View Camera, and it's been perfect. That means there's nothing wrong with my network or hubs.

    Why do all the smart doorbells have to look like the Tesla Cybertruck or "space age" I don't want something that stands out, I want something discrete and that matches my house or door.

    • @bradenmartinez8699
      @bradenmartinez8699 Před 2 lety +2

      It's a smart doorbell, so yes it's going to look modern and futuristic. This style typically goes with a lot of different types of homes. I've never seen a smart doorbell that looks bad on a house. Have you tried to find one you like and install it without thinking about trying to get the same aesthetic as your house?

    • @AppleInsider
      @AppleInsider  Před 2 lety +2

      Like I kind of say at the beginning of the video, only so much you can do with a camera lens and a big button. With doorbells, you *want* something that is visible. Not ugly, but visible and sticks out. The whole idea is prevention of crimes and if someone sees you have a video doorbell, they are less likely to continue approaching your house. It also makes it easier for guests to know what button to press to ring the doorbell.

    1:33 Right off the bat…it looks cheap (spray painted) and clunky. Like a brick cell phone. On looks alone…obnoxious. And it’s not the backplate causing it. It really IS thicker. You’re ignoring the protrusion of the lens itself. On top of an already swollen top portion… it’s thicker. Period. About half an inch so.
