It's really neat that Anakin fulfils both readings of the prophecy. He balances the force by reducing the Jedi to two like the Sith, then destroys the Sith by killing Palpatine and becoming a Jedi again.
I've also been informed that Qui Gonn calls him the chosen one in front of him which would turn those maybes into definitelies.
There were more than two Jedi that survived Order 66 you know.

@@The4thSnake Yeah, I can see where you’re coming from. as much as I do like Ahsoka, Kanan, and Cal Kestis as characters (with Ahsoka having been made with Lucas’s blessing), none of them were mentioned in the two Lucas helmed trilogies and not even the Skywalker Saga films as a whole (minus the Force voices Rey heard in Rise of Skywalker, but…we don’t talk about Rise of Skywalker).

Anakin's expectations for himself aren't just the tales he heard as a boy and the prophecy. It's both. In Phantom Menence Qui-Gon declares Anakin the chosen one to the council while said boy is in the room.

@@jashan_jj Debatable. I'd say that's more in line with the originals. For as great as the OT is, it is at its core just the hero's journey with all basic tropes with great execution and fairly decent attention to detail.

The Prequels and the Sequels really have 2 Completely Oppossite problems,
The Prequels have a Technical Writing problem, the Structure and the concept of the story is Great and Solid but the execution is so flawed it falls flat,
The Sequels are the Oppossite the Writing is technically sound and consistent but the Structure and Concept was non existant, for every perfectly executed line is undercut because the Story lacked any Consistency.
What Anakin was supposed to be: A tragic figure whose need for belonging morphs him into a force of evil

Anakin Skywalker is my favorite character in the entire Star Wars Saga. Loved his tragic story and transformation from a slave kid, to a jedi, to the greatest threat in the galaxy.
His entire life is in servitude. Slave on Tatooine, conscripted child of war during the Clone Wars and finally as the servant to Sidious.
Another moment I feel doesn't get brought up much, is when Anakin, Obi Wan, and Padme are chasing Count Dooku to his hangar base. Padme falls out of the ship, and Anakin immediately orders the pilot to land the ship, so he can go and check if she's ok.
Obi Wan just gets in Anakin's face, and tells him leave her behind and do his job.
With Padme being the only thing he cares about since his Mothers death, I'm sure that moment would've stuck in his memory.
Obi-Wan was a sell out who was scared to break the Jedi Code. Qui-Gon should’ve taught him better.
Qui Gon was the only person that could have fulfilled Anakin’s training due to him being a complete follower of the force. Sidious sending Maul to assassinate Qui Gon was the beginning of the end. The Council was wary of Anakin for a good reason, they weren’t qualified to guide him like Jinn was and that includes Yoda being incapable.
Anakin deserved better
It’s my all-time favorite villain origin. My favorite description of it is that it’s the story of an arrogant religion that found their Messiah and handed him over to the Devil.
That discredits the insane tactical genius that Palpatine utilized to position himself as the puppeteer of the chaos. He sent Maul to kill Qui because if Anakin had been trained by Qui then he would have been taught to listen solely to the force. He played the factions against one another, manipulating both from a high position of power. He clouded the Jedi’s judgement by sowing chaos throughout the sectors and leading them on a hunt for the Sith, all while sitting right beneath their noses. He allowed his master to tamper with the force to create Anakin which the force punished Plagueis for, then he set about manipulating Anakin by positioning himself as his father figure/confidant. The Jedi were right to be wary of Anakin because they were never meant to find him, Qui Gon was. Sidious assassinating him with Maul was the beginning of the end.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one!

Heroes actually. He was a hero originally, became a villain, and redeemed as a hero again. But I get your point. It's so cool how when you think about it, Darth Vader BEFORE the prequels were made, was the hero in the end. Luke saved his father but it was Vader who finished the Emperor.
I like that you mostly use material from the movies only, proving that this story still stands on its own very well even without all the expanded universe adding to it.
I wouldn't mind more Star Wars stuff from you honestly. You seem to know and understand quite a bit
I feel like as things get more formulaic we start to appreciate pieces of work that make interesting choices. The worldbuilding in the prequel films is pretty good, it's just not the focus and rewards a keen eye.

I always liked Anakin/Vader as the story of the fallen hero, but played with it by not having the fallen hero doing their now vile actions out of any desire but rather because they feel so empty after so many failings that their heroic spirit is almost entirely gone
There are fantastic novels that delve into the war, one in particular about Anakin and his fellow padawans on an assignment while their masters are needed elsewhere. It illustrates that Anakin hadn’t gone far from his life on Tatooine, as he was essentially conscripted for war and had to sense/watch/experience loss through those he grew close to. Palpatine was a terrifying strategist, up until you know….Episode VI.

@@tomlinson1710 Honestly, I'm not sure which way around it is. Both have merit, since #RevengeOfThe6th sounds better, but #RevengeOfThe5th neatly continues on after the 4th, and the number 5 is used in '1337' speak to replace the letter 'S', so it looks better.
2:46 I remember in an interview Dave feloni described his interpretation of Duel of the Fates that it wasnt just about qui gon it was about the fate of Anakin.
Like you said Anakin needed a father figure in his life qui gon was going to be that father figure had he survived and likely would’ve helped keep Anakin in the light. But he didn’t and of course the rest is history.

To be fair to the Jedi on a couple things:
- The "no attachments" doctrine has been misinterpreted as "no emotional attachments to others" when it really means "no possessive attachments". They're allowed to have friends, they just can't get attached to them.
- The reason why the Jedi can't stop slavery on planets is because it's outside their jurisdiction. Remember, they're agents for the Galactic Republic. For example, if they go around freeing slaves on say Tatooine, the Galactic Republic is going to run into issue with Jabba the Hutt.
And even if the Jedi want to say "forget the Republic, let's go free slaves" then they're still going to run into the issue of man-power. They only number around 10,000 or so, compared to the god knows how many being live in the galaxy.

Anakin downfall was ahead of its time.
I still remember back then, critic and Star Wars documentary episode from the history channel people call Anakin in Attack of the clones, a whinny teenager. Anakin was 19 he is an adult but is still young and losing his mother.
And funny enough Luke was also 19 in New Hope. He also whinny and impulsive as well.
It serve a good foil of father and son.
Anakin lost mother he driven to become more powerful to save everyone leading to his downfall
Luke his aunt and uncle gave him opportunity to be powerful Jedi as his father. There was time Luke made mistakes, including not finishing his training from Yoda, so Luke can try save Han and Leia because they gave Luke that unconditional love and friendship that Luke needed. But Luke failed to save anyone(Han got captured and Leia escape by the help of Lando) and Luke lost a hand.
Obi Wan hid the Truth from Luke that Darth Vader is Anakin, Luke’s. Obi Wan and Yoda just tell Luke what to do similar of the Jedi Tells Anakin what to do.
But Luke hold on to hope and try find a way to help his father. Vader is still family.
Even you mentioned about Vader Taunts Luke, after Palpatine intentionally provoked Luke. Seeing Vader’s robot Hand made Luke realize he not to repeat’s Anakin’s mistakes.
Anakin looses hope but Luke holds on to hope.
And very clever when George Lucas made Anakin’s Jedi clothes more darker and Darker as foreshadowing his downfall.
While Luke’s clothes in return of the Jedi is Dark as Vader’s clothes but have the White cloth showing Luke still have hope for his father and light side. Helping Anakin to gain that hope again.

Anakin was a slave on Tatooine, a conscripted child soldier for over a decade, he grew close to others while sensing their deaths, he lost all control at times, blacking out and turning into Vader.(slaughtering the Tusken Raiders as Qui Gon cries out through the force for him to come to his senses) I love the part when he asks his mother if they will ever see each other again. It subtly showed how strong he was at reading the force.
Anakin: “Will I ever see you again?”
Shmi: “What does your heart tell you?”
Anakin: “I hope so… Yes, I guess.”
He meets her one last time, right before she succumbs to the wounds inflicted by her captors.

One thing I want to add is Qui-gon also played a significant role in Anakin’s life even if he wasn’t in it for very long showing genuine interest in the boy even willing to defy Jedi council orders if they don’t officially grant him permission to make him his Padawan he would’ve done so anyway and not mention helped free from slavery and actually attempted to save his mother as well. By all means Qui-Gon Jinn is pretty much the father figure Anakin wanted and needed in his life and is possible he wouldn’t have turned to the light had Qui-Gon not perished in Episode 1
That’s what makes Qui-Gon’s passing so tragic as he was by all intents and purpose the only Jedi that actually acted like a Jedi in the prequels at least following the will of the Force.
The music for the Obi-wan and Qui-Gon vs Maul fight “Duel of the Fates” takes on a deeper meaning as this is a duel for the fate of Anakin Skywalker. Qui-Gon May have perished in combat but imagine if Obi-wan did as well. If Anankin turning to the Dark Side in Episode 3 was bad for the Galaxy imagine if Palpatine had him from the start of Episode 1 alongside Maul the results would’ve been even more catastrophic and Palpatine would’ve won essentially.

Honestly, this is absolute truth. There is a reason why Darth Vader's redemption felt so impactful. There's a human side to this. Despair is what crushed Anakin's hope. He WANTS to be this badass hero. He dreams of someday liberating slaves so no one would be suffering through the same fate. Yet the whole time, the Jedi either treat him as rowdy student that they are scared of him being "too good" or as someone they never wanted because he was too old.
I would love to see you cover the brilliance of Darth Vader's redemption as it's easily one of the greatest things in literature. The act of one of the most evil men in the galaxy, being redeemed out of love for his son as his dark master attempts to murder his son. And by refusing to use the dark side to kill his master, thus causing himself to die... he has shown the change of heart and dies happy knowing that his son was right.

It's ironic that the Jedi are so against making attatchments, when Anankin only trully embrace the Dark Side after he loses them.
Luke's emotional attachments in the OG Trilogy and Legends is what saves the new Jedi Order, but the Jedi Order in the Prequel Trilogy is what led to the destruction of the old Jedi Order hence why your comment is the most truthful whenever it comes to Anakin and Luke as characters, and Disney shills are wrong about the true Star Wars lore.

Anakin's rise and fall is a beautiful story. We see how he grew and changed and the reasons for why he fell.
The whole writing of Anakin in the prequels may be full of poor and flat writing, but there's so much beauty inside it. Great idea, just with poor execution.

Most of the problem is the acting, which as much as I like and defend the prequels, can admit that it's one of the trilogy's weakest points in the series.
Remember when Obi-Wan himself said in Episode 4 that the Jedi were "guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic?" They don't really act like that in the prequels and only fight for peace in other planets because the Clone Wars happen and the Jedi are dragged into it.
Not enough people highlight the years of planning and how deeply rooted Palpatine was in the entire saga.

If soemone else had done the dialogue I fully believe they would be truly great with no caveats. The fall of anakin and many other aspects of the sequels are really good to the point I think if you made someone read just a summary of them without watching them they would expect them to be good movies. “Balance in the Force” refers to the destruction of the Sith, they’re one and the same. I think Lucas laid it out, that the existence and use of the Dark Side is an imbalancing, corrupting force on the Force as a whole.
The thought that Luke is the last thing Anakin cares for is in sharp contrast to his daughter's treatment. *Especially* in the first movie, with implied torture and genocide. Then again, Leia's upbringing and political stance might have made Anakin feel there was no chance for her joining him compared to Luke. Of course this is more so a series of ret-cons and headcanons, as Vader was originally just an effective antagonist that had nuanced added to him later on.
I will also add that the Spanish dub, to me, makes the Prequels more enjoyable. The voice actors delivery is much more passionate than the english speaking actors. There are comparisions on CZcams that demostrate it. As a bonus- they reprise their roles in the Clone Wars cartoon. The movie's inherent problem with pacing can't be helped though.
In fairness, he had no idea Leia was his daughter. No one knew Padme was having twins until the nurse droid told Obi Wan, and Vader doesn't know Luke even has a sister until Return.
Luke almost falls to the Dark Side when Darth Vader searches his mind, as Luke meditates on the Death Star II. He then threatens to train Leia and Luke gives into fear, anger etc before striking down Vader. This ties into Luke preparing to strike down Kylo, as Luke in his own words proclaims to be like his father and we as viewers should realize that it includes him having a weak spot for those he loves. He knew Vader would claim Leia and Kylo would end up aiding in the death of countless lives. (Entire planets) Him looking down at his robotic hand reminds him that his emotions and recklessness are leading him down the same path as Anakin, thus he throws away his weapon and trusts in the force. Anakin then comes back and kills Sidious, which is why George shows him in the end as a Force Ghost and not Darth Vader.

Ive come to this conclusion after years of being an Avid Revenge of the Sith defender.
Ive always considered the 6 film arc of Anakin and the Galactic Republic's fall into Imperialism as one of the most unique story ideas ever attempted on screen.
Me personally ive always said that Anakin shouldve been in his teen years in The Phantom Menace but i understand George Lucas's reasoning that Anakin being so young was necessary to feel the pain of him having to give up his mother and become a Jedi only to lose her.

Great video, I do believe Anakin Skywalker was a tragic character who wanted to protect his mother but fails. He wanted to stick to the Jedi code but the council were blind by politics. He was stripped away of everything, but at the final moment he decided to do what he wants and overpowered the emperor to save his son. And at last he is a Jedi again but much more.

I don't really agree with you on the technical criticism of the prequels but everything else regarding Anakin's character I completely agree with you. There's much more that can be said but it wouldn't fit in an 8 minute video. Good job. 👏👏
The clone wars series show another point of Anakin descent to the dark side, for example it's stated that while other Jedi hated or even felt apathetic to the war Anakin loved, because he thought the war was basically his call and other facet was Ashoka which is a Padawan that was assigned to Anakin against his wishes but choose to take her like a sister only to one day her being framed and marked for execution and meanwhile every Jedi with few exceptions took her as a murderer Anakin basically became a detective and not only found the guilty part but turned her in to the authorities and then Ashoka left the order which broke Anakin's heart and furthered his hate for the Jedi and it's even shown on a deleted scene where he talks to Obi Wan where Obi Wan doesn't even answers Anakin's question that is: "If it was me, what would you do"
This is one of the big reasons why I dislike that show. The MMP that came before showed an Anakin that lines up with the movies. He didn’t love war because he could sense all of the deaths around him. The padawan friends he made were dying all around him, he went from a slave on Tatooine to a child of war. He slipped into pits of the darkside that left him unable to control his actions, highlighting that Anakin and Vader were separate states of mind.
@@gringles Anakin didn't had Padawan friends, actually he was pretty much picked on since day one and keep in mind Anakin from Episode 3 is different from Anakin from clone Wars show, Anakin lost Ashoka, his own mother and Obi Wan couldn't spare 5 minutes to talk with him

This is an interesting tragic and comeback story. Anikin could have been lost forever, but he managed to rise back up.
Too bad the sequels completely ruin Anakin's redemption and sacrifice by revealing that Palpatine survived the fall...

Lucas is the true I guide others to the treasure I cannot posses his ideas are brilliant but without surgicaly analyzing them like this they are shadowed by the lacklaster execution but when other people who understand this vision come along and help bring it into full potential than we get stuff that truly makes Star Wars hold so strong to this day

Downfall of anakin? Dude went from not being able to get on the jedi counsil or whatever to the second man just under the emperor. Thats a promotion, not a downfall. And he got great healthcare. Even got his limbs back. Dude had great benefits.

Just like everything in the prequels: good idea, fails in execution
The Star Wars prequels have a perfectly good skeleton for the arc, it's just that it's let down by it's execution because Lucas is bad at directing actors and didn't want to leave the cooled interior of the studio set.
The Jedi failed him. When Anakin joins they are corrupt, high on their own self-righteousness, and are quick to isolate or punish those who deviate from this cloud of smugness. Qui Gon was a true Jedi, yet he's called a "rebel" by other Jedi. Anakin was the chosen one, yet kept on a leash and only used as a weapon. Even Luke is told off by Yoda, yet before Disney ruined everything, Luke became the best of the Jedi. All of this is why the dark side was clouding their vision, and how Palpatine was able to move so easily.
The KOTOR soundtrack is so good here.

7:23 The dialogue deliver is weird however I can give a bit of pass when consider the inspiration behind it. Star Wars as whole always took inspiration from many different sources in pop culture ( ex:OT was based on classic sci-fy adventure serials from the 30's, Mandalorian is "Lone wolf in space, Clone Wars and Bad Batch take inspirations from war films like "Rambo" or "Apocalypse Now"). In the case of the prequels are inspired from classic literature, like shakespere. The dialogue is direct and to the point.
When talking about the downfall of Anakin it's important to bring up Obi-Wan's biggest flaw, that he struggles to understand people. As Qui Gonn tells us in the first movie, "he has much to learn about the living force", aka Obi-Wan has a hard time connecting with and understanding people's desires. He fails to notice Anakin marrying Padme or that Count Doku's mourning of Qui Gonn was real, and most importantly Obi-Wan fails to understand the great conflict within Anakin. During Revenge of the Sith when Anakin is at his breaking point the first person he goes to for help is Obi-Wan; but Obi-Wan misunderstands what's troubling Anakin.
He thinks Anakin is just frustrated and impatient about not being named "Master" by the Jedi council but Obi-Wan never considers WHY Anakin wants to be named master, outside this being the goal of all jedi. Palpatine however realizes that Anakin true motivation for power is his fear of Padme dying and immediately begins to bait Anakin with promises of powers that keep a person alive even after death. This is a flaw that Obi-Wan carries even as a force ghost (with him being unable to recognize that Anakin still has that inner conflict deep inside).
Anakin is a much better character than his son
Star Wars is really about Anakin becoming the hero to stop the Sith but falls to the Dark Side and becomes the villain of the series.
Fans of the originals will say that the Prequels ruin the plot twist in Empire but for those that grew up watching Anakin becoming Vader it's definitely more depressing with all that character development in mind.
You should give them a watch in the “Ernst Rister” order. IV, V, I, II, III, VI.

The amount of grief Star Wars fans gave the prequel trilogy was unwarranted. It tells how Anakin Skywalker from a young boy was a slave and was destined to change the galaxies forever. Qui Gon Jinn was the perfect mentor for Anakin before being killed by Darth Maul and Obi Wan Kenobi took responsibility to train despite the Jedi Council rejection. Anakin at a young age was manipulated by Palpatine from the start and even formed a close bond with Anakin for ulterior motives. The first point of Anakin's descend to darkness is after he learns of his mother's murder he enact revenge of those tribe that killed his mother and wiped them all out including innocent woman and children. Anakin was never trusted by the Jedi Council despite how many missions he completed and wars he has won. Allowing Palpatine to further corrupting him to join the dark side and the was the second point of his descent. Then Anakin Skywalker had visions of his wife Padme dying and wanted to do anything to save her after the loss of his mother and sought after Palpatine to find ways to save her. When Anakin did tell the Jedi Council that Palpatine is the Sith Lord and Mace Windu confronts Palpatine and beats him, Anakin Skywalker had a choice to make. Let Mace kill Palpatine and the Empire falls before it even started or save Palpatine, join the dark side to save his wife. He chose the latter and his descent to the dark side was complete and was given his sith name Darth Vader. Anakin killed many Jedis and younglings and was far gone that his wife was afraid of the monster he has become. Consumed by fear, anger and hatred has fractured his relationship with his wife, his friend and mentor Obi Wan Kenobi and doomed The Galaxy to the Iron Fist rule of Palpatine and the Empire. After losing to Obi Wan, Anakin Skywalker was beyond saving that his hatred was keeping him alive while being rebuilt as a cyborg and Palpatine with his one last lie tells Anakin Skywalker Padme died because Anakin has the one to kill her. Forever forced to live with the fear and anger that was inside him for the rest of his life until his son Luke Skywalker saved him.
I apologize for the long post. It was well written by George Lucas on how a boy with potential and the power affect change forever being corrupted and used by Palpatine from events that shaped him from the death of his mother to being mistrusted by the Jedi Council and losing his Padawan Ashoka to fears of losing his wife. It's a tragic story of a hero fallen to darkness and earning his redemption.
Vader still had hope as a Sith. The hope that one day, he'd be strong enough to kill the Emperor and take the throne himself. Also, Lucas tried to delegate in the Prequels, but everyone he tried to delegate to not only refused, but told him to his face that Star Wars was his magnum opus and that he should direct. So of course, dude got a bit of an ego after that.
What ruins the transformation is that a switch flips and Anakin is mustache twirling evil all of a sudden. It would have felt much more natural if he believed what he did was virtuous. Instead of his emotions fully consuming him, he is convinced that his actions are for the greater good and he fully dissociates from his emotions. Really sell it by him being remorseful during the assault on the jedi temple and him being compeltely emotionless on Mustafar. It would make the cracks in his facade during the original trilogy more impactful because he believes losing control of his emotions will only lead to more pain and destruction, so he suppresses himself.
The novels somewhat did that, but yeah, more could have been done.
Hello There
The Prequels are rife with problems and can't even begin to hold a candle to the OT, but in retrospect of Disney's *literal* killing of the originals, i'm willing to cut them some slack. Killing Luke and Han was unforgivable.
At least the PT tried something different that added to, rather than took away from the OT, and there was a good story in there somewhere, buried under tons of cringe, John Williams was arguably at his best in this trilogy, and it had a unique visual style that while not as good as the OT, was still fresh while feeling distinctly Star Wars.

Wow, Anakin reduced the Jedi to the level of the sith rule of 2 thus achieving balance. I have never once considered that in all my years watching Star Wars and it makes complete sense.
Darth Vader is favorite villain his fall from grace is tragic and he is truly one of the few villains who is the main character of a franchise he has every hreat quality all good villians should have plus being less arrogant while now of days villains are bland and so lazily written Vader still holds strong

amazing video maybe it's dumb but some of this I think I knew on like a subconscious level when I used to like star wars but I was to distracted by the surface level stuff to see it as it is. I still think the prequels are very flawed and honestly they could have cut awful characters like general grievous to maybe give anakin a bit more screentime idk it's been a while since I've watched them maybe it could have helped hoiasdf
Yea seeing the fall of anakin was something else and you can get why it happened. This is why when some that say his turn was to quick and made no sense it makes me scratch my head.

-When leaving his mother he tries to sense whether or not he will meet her again and concludes rather sadly “I hope so….yes…I guess.”(they meet for a few seconds before she dies)
-Conscripted to be a child soldier.
-Grows up fighting a war where he can feel all of the loss around him.
-Forms a strong attachment to Padme, who he can simultaneously sense a future with but also a tragic end.
-Falls to the Dark Side and is defeated by his former closest ally.
-Ends up in servitude once more to the Dark Lord of the Sith.

The Chosen One prophecy about "bringing balance to the Force" isn't about reducing the number of jedi to two.
According to the jedi, the Dark Side is like a tumor on the Force. The sith pervert the Force and use it for their own selfish desires, unlike the jedi philosophy of "let the Force flow through you."
Bringing balance to the Force, from the jedi perspective, means destroying the sith and cutting out the tumor.
What the jedi didn't understand is that _they_ had to go too. They were no longer agents of the Force, they were agents of the Republic. They let politics get involved with their religion. And by fighting as generals in the Clone Wars, they were no better than the sith, using the Force as a weapon.
In fact, because they were fighting a war orchestrated by a sith lord, you could make the argument that the jedi were agents of the dark side too.
Bringing balance to the Force wasn't about the actual number of jedi and sith in the galaxy, it was that the very existence of the two groups was a problem and the only way to solve that problem was to clear the board and start again.
The Point gets stronger when you realize that Padawans got promoted early and that's messed up

The only thing I have to disagree with is that the dark side and the Sith corrupt the force, so eliminating them isn't wrong. Overall I agree that the Jedi are flawed but good people.
Their biggest flaw is that they make choices when they were meant to be guided by the force. This is what separates Qui Gon from everyone else and why killing him was extremely necessary to Sidious.

I always vonsidered the prequels somewhat decent.
They had some rough edges for sure, but they did more good for the series as a whole and the ot.
And this is one of those reasons.

The Clone Wars is good but the things the films did better was show Anakins fall to the dark side. He’s this fragile conflicted boy who becomes disillusioned with the Jedi and has all the stress piled on him, the prophecy, distrust from the council,
Slow grooming by palpatine, the fear his wife will die. So it makes sense when he’s tempted with a way to save her. In the clone wars however, Anakins cocky and charming and funny and a bad boy who just gets aggressive sometimes. His personality is so radically different to movie Anakin that it’s harder to imagine him falling to the dark side as easily as he does. Watching Anakin at the start of the final two clone wars episodes, it’s hard to imagine what he’d be at the end of it. Anakin throughout revenge of the sith however, it leads nicely into his downfall
The idiot Jedi could've just come back to Tatooine and bought Anakin's mother from Watto, then employed her as a glorified janitor in the Temple or as one of Padme's palace servants. Problem solved, Anakin doesn't fall to the Dark Side, Shmi dies in peace, and there's no Empire or rule of darkness.
