  • 3 weeks in finding my way in Epic's Unreal Engine videogame development tool I find the power of my M1 lacking for the first time in 1 year.
I also talk a little about optimisation as a beginner and what I've learned to watch out for.

Yes, depending on the fidelity / realism you're going for I think you can. I'm in the process of learning so stay tuned !

@@akshaymondal m1 Macs swap memory w the SSD effectively using it as virtual ram so I'd say yes to an extend you can use UE5 with 8 gigs but you will feel the limitations close in (frame drops, stuttering editor, pop in assets) very quick. A lot of the incredible thing UE5 can do and you will want to play with will be limited.

So, OVER ALL…would you recommend a mac mini M1 for UE5?

If you haven't bought a machine yet and your goal is triple A games you should consider getting a PC w a graphics card. If you are a beginner like me or the aim is to build mobile games yes I can: you can learn UE5 today and you'll be busy for a year learning everything before its time to consider a PC with a graphics card that can process PS5 level assets and shaders.
