    This is off topic but recently I ran across an abandoned cemetery in Arizona. (Floy / Plenty Cemetery in Apache County)
    While researching some of the residents I ran across a familiar photo. At first I didn't recognize it but knew it was very familiar.
    It was a man on horseback, outside a large building. It took a minute or so to realize that the building was the Lincoln County Courthouse!
    Turns out the guy in the grave (also the one in the photo) served two terms as the Lincoln County Sheriff!
    It's not right that these graves are forgotten / abandoned, so I promised myself that I'll maintain them as long as I'm able.
    Hopefully someone else will take over when I'm gone.

    This is riveting to watch. Unfortunately what makes this investigation much harder is the bureaucracy, and the politics that surround the Billy investigation. I do think though we are as close as we have ever been and if we stay patient the big answer we have all been searching for for many years could soon be upon us. Thank you to all the historians, genealogists investigators writers editors film/ documentary makers who make it easier for the likes of myself, just a Billy enthusiast who has for many years fed off these people for a lot of what I have learnt about Billy. Michael this is a great channel thank you so much.

    My name is Thomas Kerrigan. I am on Ancestry DNA. I have McCarty, Garrett and Stone cousins in the DNA. I do not have any Antrum or Antrim cousins. I live in North East Louisiana where my ancestors since the Civil War have lived. Pat Garrett was raised in Claiborne Parish. But I am not researching Billy The Kid right now because I am obsessed with finding my connection to Jesse Woodson James. My DNA matches start at his father's parents and his mother's grandparents. I have DNA matches for all 8 of his great grandparents.

      Would your DNA therefore match Billy the Kids fathers if it could be obtained?

    • @Thomas-uv3tk
      @Thomas-uv3tk Před rokem

      @@BrushyBill-eo5og I am pulling all kind of stuff up from researching my DNA. Tensas Parish before the war. JP Murchison was the census taker. He was my great great grandfather's neighbor. Census takers were marshals. Murchison then became a Confederate soldier. Thomas Byrd Kempe lived on the other side of my great great grandfather. He was the uncle-in-law of President Jefferson Davis. The Farrer family were Kempe descendants and they lived below my great great grandfather. J G James lived above them. President Jefferson Davis lived approximately 10 miles from them on Jefferson Davis Island. On the map my grandfather was listed as M Kerrigan. On the census Murchison puts him down as M Carrigan. M Carrigan was a Confederate spy. Spies don't live under there true names. The stories of Jesse and J Frank Dalton being around here are abundant. And he was a spy. So I took the DNA test. It was him. Jesse James was J Frank Dalton. I am on Facebook. Thomas Kerrigan. My Ancestry DNA results are at the top of my page. 44 pages of cousins who are descendants of the ancestors to Jesse Woodson James. But there are no descendants of Jesse Woodson James that was shot in the back of the head. I will be a cousin to anyone who is related to Jesse Woodson James if that person's descendants takes the Ancestry DNA test. And I do believe Billy and Jesse were related.

    • @Thomas-uv3tk
      @Thomas-uv3tk Před rokem

      I forgot to mention, after a flood had destroyed the property on my map and everyone had moved, the Kempes bought up the abandoned properties. In 1879 Jesse and the gang robbed 2 establishments in Mississippi. 2 were dead. They needed a place to hide and recover. He took them to a place he was familiar with, his old property, the abandoned Kempe Plantation. He was the outlaw known as Jesse James and the outlaw known as Jesse James was J Frank Dalton.

    When the notification showed up on my cellphone about a breakthrough on Billy the Kid DNA, I was hoping that at long last, this video was going to state that the authorities keeping the public from examining the Billy the Kid DNA evidence finally decided to go ahead with it, but I was a little disappointed at hearing that this is not the case. Thanks for all your efforts, anyway. I can see how it can be frustrating when your interest exceeds the family's willingness to cooperate with your requests for information, but I frankly do not understand their reticence. It seems odd that people who have no familial connections to Billy want to impersonate or want answers to questions about Billy, but those who could be related don't seem to care. I don't think we're ever going to get to the bottom of the Billy the Kid mystique--so many versions and theories about this and that, everyone having their own ideas about him that cause you to change your mind about him constantly. I have heard it said that no one can really obtain Billy's DNA because there was a flood which occurred in the same area where his body was buried along with several other bodies and that the bodies were re-buried in another location, and whether this is true or not, I don't know. I personally would like to go out to where it is claimed his body is now and use a shovel to do some digging around. I'll tell you one thing, if I happened to dig up a head (skull) with "squirrel teeth," I'll know it's his. I guess they called it squirrel teeth what we call buck teeth today. I give up. We are never going to know. We can send a man to the moon, but we cannot find out anything concrete about Billy the Kid.

I just want to know, in one sentence, did Pat Garret actually kill him or did it turn out to be one of the others? I don't know which sheriff claims what from what town or anything, I don't care to know their names, just how Billy actually died. Do we know yet?? lol I've already spent 20 minutes reading articles that told me nothing at all and I just don't have time to invest in this 45 minute video either. A huge part of the reason why New Mexico will never let Billy's body be exhumed is that, once it's proven that it is, in fact, his body that is buried in that grave, a lot of what makes up the myth and legend of Billy the Kid will forever be erased, which would hurt tourism in that area of New Mexico. Obviously there would be people who would disregard the facts and evidence, but I really think it would affect a lot of people and cause them to all but lose interest in BTK. New Mexico can ill afford to lose the revenue that BTK brings in annually.

Throw in some sworn affidavits by witnesses claiming Billy wasn't dead and you have some legitimate challenges to Pat Garrett's claims. Wasn't Garrett himself a criminal and cattle rustler before becoming sheriff? He was also a man with excessive drinking and gambling debts. Guys like that aren't trusted to have security clearances today because they are more likely to commit theft or treason. He had motive to lie in order to collect the bounty.
      As for Brushy Bill, he's just a guy with a story until someone can prove otherwise.

    I am convinced the outlaw known as Jesse James was William Michael Carrigan, the younger brother of Confederate Lt. Colonial and judge Alfred Holt Carrigan. Thomas Carrigan took the body of Jesse Woodson James to Mt. Olivet Cemetery in 1902 for proper burial. That was Charlie Bigelow who was shot in the back of the head, not the outlaw known as Jesse James. Judge Alfred Holt is in a newspaper clipping stating the James brothers robbed no banks in Missouri. William Michael Carrigan reportedly died in 1864, but later married Sarah Ann Farrington/Ferrington, a cousin to Jesse Woodson James, and in 1868 she gave birth to my great grandfather Michael William Kerrigan. I took the Ancestry DNA test and I have the DNA matches for all his ancestors. His older brother, Lt. Colonial Alfred Holt Carrigan, has black descendants named Adams who also took the Ancestry DNA test and we match. I also ran a DNA test on Jesse Woodson James and I have matches for his grandparents on his dad's side and all 8 of his great grandparents on both sides of his family.

Most of what he learned (and got completely wrong) was from Burns' "The Saga of Billy the Kid" published in 1926. Don't take my word for it.....read that book, and read whatever Brushy supposedly said in his interviews and match them up. Also, ask the powers that be why we can't hear Brushy's interviews with Morrison after 70 years? Hate to keep harping on Sam's "Pat Garret & Billy the Kid", but if I understood you correctly you said you've never watched the complete movie, this movie was originally cut at 160 minutes by Sam, the studio cut it to 106 then later the so called Directors cut was released in 1998 at 124 minutes, I think the movie was a masterpiece at 124 minutes, and could only imagine what the other 40 minutes they cut had in it??? The movie was pretty much a failure and initially lost a lot of money, pretty much universally hated by every one including the actors that were in it at 106 minutes, they said it destroyed Sam's vision, Now it's number 126 on the top 500 movies ever, Sam's original 160 minute cut is MIA, I read an article years years ago that a lot of the "back ground" of the Lincoln County Wars & Billy & Pat's earlier relationship were what was cut. It is by far my all time favorite western & I was familiar with the story so that helped, but it wouldn't be nearly as good someone who wasn't. I'd give almost anything if his 160 minute version would pop up somewhere & get released. One fault some found with the movie is at age 36 Kriss was too old to play Billy, personally I think he knocked the part way out of the park.

      I just posted a comment explaining why this will never happen...Now I'm just an average guy in his mid 40's from Oklahoma, so this is in no way based on any facts or inside information; it's just my own personal, but educated, opinion...here it is:
      A huge part of the reason why New Mexico will never let Billy's body be exhumed is that, once it's proven that it is, in fact, his body that is buried in that grave, a lot of what makes up the myth and legend of Billy the Kid will forever be erased, which would hurt tourism in that area of New Mexico. Obviously there would be people who would disregard the facts and evidence, but I really think it would affect a lot of people and cause them to all but lose interest in BTK. BTK's fans love the romantic notion that he somehow managed to escape certain death one last time, and then rode off into American history, forever. Once that legend is 100% dispelled, I believe people would no longer see BTK as an American folk hero, but just a young kid who shot down several people in cold blood and then met his fate in Ft. Sumner. It's that ambiguity of "did he, or didn't he" that people love to cling to. Either way, New Mexico can ill afford to lose the revenue that BTK brings in annually.

    MAG while we are on this genealogy part, I ponder if any modern day historian pays attention they list whose Billy Father is.. He’s laid to rest in Nashville, having died during the civil war. Crazy I have to be the one to mention this, His wife’s name and family are listed as well. Even as far back as the civil war: and the revolutionary, one would place their religion, fathers and mothers name and any children.
    Furthermore as they didn’t immediately go to war being handed a weapon he’d be assigned a unit, one can even trace the major engagements he was involved in. As he dies on or is laid to rest 25th March 1865, he would have fell at nearly the end of the war. Even worse the date on his headstone is the start of the end of the reb’s surrendering.
    One last thing, his father was Irish born in Ireland as well as his wife. He was a Christian as the tombstone that was replaced the other being so detonated, they made sure to place the white cross upon it. Which means he even went as far as recording at his enlistment a Christianity lifestyle.
