2:45 here’s a fun fact. Did you know that during the revolutionary war a large part of the British population as well as the parliament really didn’t care about the war and was alright with basically letting America go
No I did not know that
A large part of the United Kingdom didn’t have representation
is the revolutionary war basically a civil war
Interesting
Why would they keep the American colonies when there are a lot more minerals in Asian colonies?
Speaking as a physics major, quantum mechanics will absolutely mess you up if you're unprepared for it. And since Planck's, Einstein's, Schrödinger's, and others' work basically invented quantum mechanics, they had absolutely no way to be prepared.
Especially since they were taught as students that wave mechanics would be the future, until Planck showed up one day and essentially said "guys, this should be total bs but the math checks up" and flipped the whole field on it's head
The scientific community: "Please stop doing dumbass things, you're not even making sense!!"

4:22 The majority of guns in japan were from Europe, you know, where the knights were from. So it was a common practice to shoot your own armor to test if it was bullet proof, which it often was.
Bullet proof is the dent the bullet made in the armour
@@SamuelCasey2007 Proof that the armor can stop bullets being the dent itself. That's an amazing way of thinking about it.
@@SamuelCasey2007 I didn't learn to expect etymology today but here am I and I salute you for it
6:39 for those with 0 knowledge of latin: the roman is saying "it's free, idiot"
Even if you have 0 knowledge of Latin, you can literally make out what he says:
Est -> (It) is
Liber -> Liberty -> Freedom -> Free
Stulte > Stu > Stupid
@@aurexify
Yeah, I suppose. I don't know, since I don't think in english but I trust you.
For me as an italian native speaker ist's just like reading my first language in this case (because its quite a simple phrase)
Probably it can be figured out if you have a good understanding of the english language or if its your mother tongue, but if you just have a basic or good understanding of it (enough to comprehend most of the video) but you lack the proficiency, which make you link the synonims immediately, it can be hard in my opinion.
If you speak and think in Tagalog or Japanese or whatever else and you never read a single latin word in your life and your english is good but far from perfect my comment can be useful. In YT you can find people from everywhere.
@@aurexify
Also, while I totally agree for "is" and "free", the etimology for "stupid" and "stultus" are different so you can't link them. The latin for stupid is "stupidus" even if the meaning is similar there is a slight difference in concept.
It's like to link german "haus" with "home" just because "it start with h and the sound is similar"
"house" match "haus" better and respect the etymology.
The point is that even if house and home can mean the same thing the "shade" that the word gives and the way you can use them are quite different and, since "stupid" and "stultus" are etimologically different, matching them is an error from the logic and grammatical point of view
.
Edit: to clarify "stultus" (which is a variation of "stolidus") is more like "foolish" as a concept, someone that can be easily deceived and swindled, someone maybe even a bit delusional, but there are no words in english that came from it, while "stupidus" is more like "dumb", someone slow in thinking.
I hope it explains better.
@@stefanomartello3786 I agree, but somehow I got to the conclusion that stulte means something along the lines of idiot, stupid, et cetera.
@@aurexify
Ok ok 😂
It's the face with zero hope of the roman. We all would have said something like that probably.
Marie-Antoinette totally didn't say "Let them eat brioche." when she was a child, because:
1) It is supposed to be her reaction to the price of bread skyrocketing, in France, in the late 1780s, when she was queen. It makes no sense in the context of 1760s Austria.
2) Brioche is a type of French bread. An Austrian child would have mentioned an Austrian type of bread, like Striezel for instance.
3) The quote was attributed to someone else before being attributed to Marie-Antoinette.
Plus the quote can also be interpreted as saying 'let them eat what we rich who have plenty of food are eating' so it isn't even necessarily a bad thing to say.
Ridiculous that this ever became a really big thing considering everything.
Gotta love Drew's posting schedule when your in EST, literally drops right at 12 making him the perfect youtuber to watch while eating lunch

Another reason why EST is superior.
4:17 Knights actually used guns and some prefer it over a lance shooting the enemy point blank. Also a full plate armor is not that heavy given its weight is evenly distributed across the body and said Knight is trained to use it at a young age.
There is the famous quote about the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I. being the Last Knight and the First Gunner.
@@SiqueScarface In his reign its likely that the term knight is slowly getting relegated to that of a status symbol rather than a military unit in favor for a more professional one.
The amount of samurais with muskets would put kinghts in shame though.
There is a Hussite (early 15th century) battle hymn "Who are the warriors of god" which calls to the arms "shooters and pikemen of the knightly rank". The translation on wiki into English ("crossbowmen)" is wrong, by the way. Hussites were known for using gunpowder weapons. The words pistol and howitzer are Czech, they come from the Hussite wars era.
@@SafavidAfsharid3197 You'd be surprised, actually. Once firearms became popular in Europe, almost every knight had at least one.
I mean, hell, the Portuguese were the ones to SELL guns to the Japanese.
Never thought I’d see a tank trying to explain things. You see something new every day.

5:15, during his time my aunt lived in Salt Lake City, she worked at a bar and she had just got off work, this guy with a sling came over and offered to drive her home, she already called her husband so she didn’t need to, the guy kept insisting but he gave up, 7 days later she saw him on the news, it was Ted Bundy.
Yikes
That moment when Drew calls a Penal battalion a "penile battalion" - big difference
Either way, their job was hard
@@theotank2439 💀
5:15 No, she never said it, it is a story from a book by Rousseau about a random princess long before Marie Antoinette ever moved to France (She was Austrian). It was attributed to her over 50 years after her death by a German-French novelist. In fact, Marie Antoinette was very much for the rights of the common people and against the aristocracy and clergy, same as her mother and her brother (very famous liberal reformers). Her murder effectively turned the French people against the revolution.
The British just wanted more stuff for their museum (they didn’t know the statue was already in a museum)

9:02 The first ever Tintin comic was named "Tintin in the land of soviets" (Atleast if translated from the Finnish name of it)
That's true
It's also the same translated from the vo title
There is a theory that Leon Degrelle, the founder and leader of Rex, was the inspiration for Tintin. Degrelle fought in Stalingrad. Hegre, the author of the Tintin Adventures, was also a member of Rex.
The beryllium spheres was a reference to the Manhattan project one of the scientists said f the safety precautions and wouldn't use the spacers that were designed to keep the halves separate and instead used a screwdriver and literally made a mini sun in the workshop and with his bare hands yoinkedbthe top half off and he died from immense radioactive posioning.
The guy was Louis Slotin and it was after Manhattan and WWII, when US was messing around with better bombs
Also I believe that his isn't the only time that it was done on this same core
@@slimyduck2140 This core was even called "Demon core"
Yeah his coresearchers like joked with him that he was playing games with the devil and more or less he was just too impatient to be safer about how he treated the cores
2:26 every single South American has been personaly offended by Argentina in their lifetime, even Argentinians themselves
great vids dude watch them everyday im waiting for a new countryball plush
i know this is weird but thank you drew im going trough stuff and you just help alot so thank you have my sub
5:13 I'm adding another layer : It probably wasn't her, but a different princess (Victoire), who was a child. Also, it probably wasn't brioche, but croûte de pâté, which is a fancy meal today, but was referring to something else that was much cheaper back then. It is likely that Jean-Jacques Rousseau then changed it to brioche to make the aristocracy look bad, or something like that.

hey drew durnil. if your seeing this play another ww1 and ww2 game its called countryball europe 1890 its so much fun you can fund rebels allie and instead taking the country. you take the cities until the country collapses and you can play with all the countries that survived ww1 and ww2. enjoy.
9:50 reminds me of the 1981 Pushkin Plane Crash
it basically eliminated the entirety of the Soviet Pacific Fleet's command structure as 16 Generals and Admirals were all aboard the same plane, which crashed due to an improperly secured load of a massive roll of blank NEWS paper
04:11 Blues and Greens: "Oh whoops, we burned the city to the ground. Let’s all go to the Hippodrome and celebrate our “victory”.
Justinian: “Yes, you do that."

Your teachers have probably never told you that Maurice was in WW2 fighting for the Axis powers but now you know
3:04 well actually Sweden said if you get independent we will declare war but they didn't because great britain sayd if you declare war we will interfer and they did this to keep their trade with both countries as it would be affected if they went to war.
@8:56 is a bit missleading the unit patch is for the Waffen Grenadier Brigade of the SS Charlemagne was formed after July '44. As Tintin is Belgium he would be in the Walloon Legion which was raised on the 1st January 1941, it did fight in Ukrain in '42 but was moves south to the Caucasus. By November 1942 it had been reduced to 187 men.

4:20 full plate armor was developed to counter early firearms of the late medieval period.
The ones about Julius Caesar and the berrylium half spheres where really good
