      Yeah, I suppose. I don't know, since I don't think in english but I trust you.
      For me as an italian native speaker ist's just like reading my first language in this case (because its quite a simple phrase)
      Probably it can be figured out if you have a good understanding of the english language or if its your mother tongue, but if you just have a basic or good understanding of it (enough to comprehend most of the video) but you lack the proficiency, which make you link the synonims immediately, it can be hard in my opinion.
      If you speak and think in Tagalog or Japanese or whatever else and you never read a single latin word in your life and your english is good but far from perfect my comment can be useful. In YT you can find people from everywhere.

      @stefanomartello3786 Před 2 lety +6

      @@aurexify
      Also, while I totally agree for "is" and "free", the etimology for "stupid" and "stultus" are different so you can't link them. The latin for stupid is "stupidus" even if the meaning is similar there is a slight difference in concept.
      It's like to link german "haus" with "home" just because "it start with h and the sound is similar"
      "house" match "haus" better and respect the etymology.
      The point is that even if house and home can mean the same thing the "shade" that the word gives and the way you can use them are quite different and, since "stupid" and "stultus" are etimologically different, matching them is an error from the logic and grammatical point of view
      .
      Edit: to clarify "stultus" (which is a variation of "stolidus") is more like "foolish" as a concept, someone that can be easily deceived and swindled, someone maybe even a bit delusional, but there are no words in english that came from it, while "stupidus" is more like "dumb", someone slow in thinking.
      I hope it explains better.

    Marie-Antoinette totally didn't say "Let them eat brioche." when she was a child, because:
    1) It is supposed to be her reaction to the price of bread skyrocketing, in France, in the late 1780s, when she was queen. It makes no sense in the context of 1760s Austria.
    2) Brioche is a type of French bread. An Austrian child would have mentioned an Austrian type of bread, like Striezel for instance.
    3) The quote was attributed to someone else before being attributed to Marie-Antoinette.

    • @kjn3350
      @kjn3350 Před 2 lety +4

It is likely that Jean-Jacques Rousseau then changed it to brioche to make the aristocracy look bad, or something like that.

    Maurice Gamelin, (born Sept. 20, 1872, Paris, Fr. -died April 18, 1958, Paris), French army commander in chief at the beginning of World War II who proved unable to stop the German assault on France (May 1940) that led to the French collapse in June of that year.
    There is something wrong with this...

    Facts about Argentina: Buenos Aires has more pizza places per block of the city than anywhere else on Earth, the pampas are basically a South American equivalent of the North American Midwest, bunch of grassland, and Argentinians love to grill and barbeque. Argentina is also considered to be one of the least vegan friendly places to visit on earth.
    If you couldn't already tell I had to do a short research project on local Argentinian food. No I will not be discussing Argentinian empanadas.
