Hardcore didn't really suffer from the SY fall out... It's suffering from COVID in general, how many big events do you see these days compared to the likes of htid in the sun, raverbaby, hardcore heaven and so on... The only major brand that's still going is probably Ravers Reunited... I mean, Hyperbolic is almost making a come back this year...
It was absolutely disgusting, what the bellends in the scene did to that man. I , for one, will never forgive or forget. Sy is a mate , he's one of the nicest people I know, and i'm proud to call him a mate. MC Storm is a piece of shit, he's been a bellend from day 1 back when I first heard him MC, I said then, does this fool EVER SHUT UP. Answer is no.
Obsession was the best day s of sy he had a real style about himself with the music choice he had he made a big difference to the scene at the time about 92 93 strings of life has to be herd
What really stuck out to me in this vid was that Sy's reason for stepping back from the hardcore scene in the 2010s was pretty much the same as what got him sacked from that first DJ gig: not wanting the sound to get too commercial. That's some serious artistic integrity.
He actually took a step back in the 2010s because it came out he had pictures on his phone of a naked 16 year old girl, mc storm made a big song and dance about it in the scene and it ruined sy's reputation for a while, its only past few years he's started getting booked again at events but some of the big names in the scene still won't work along side him
I remember the fall out back in the 2010s... SY almost got wiped off the scene with this bullshit. Storm was the main instigator but it makes you think what he probably got upto in his hey day... Makes you think no?
I reached out to Sy again last week to come on my Couture 303 podcast and he mentioned he had spoken to you about this video. I will watch this on my break later. Keep smashing it mate.

Another great episode and probably my favourite one so far. Sy has and always be my favourite DJ and is the main inspiration to becoming a scratch DJ myself. A true legend, gent and friend. Excellent video, really enjoyed it! Sy is a legend. From the mid to end of 2000's he was the first name I'd look for on a flyer. Many of the tracks he and Chris put out around that time are still some of my favourites. He's been living the dream; DJ'ing, fishing, property developing and writing off Cosworths. Looking forward to the next one, keep it up!

@@stuartkmusic the best set I ever saw from him was the last time sadly. He did the closing set for HTID in the sun 2012 and it blew me away. The scratching just brings it all to life so much more.
Coming from Nottingham , DJ Sy was my favorite DJ on Rave FM 101.7 and seen him live loads of times From 91 - 95 at the Marcus Garvey centre to dreamscape to vibealite at venue 44 Mansfield ! I Just couldn't deal with the cheese of hardcore after 94 .so went junglist ! Dnb still bangs ! Happy hardcore is dead !
Great video!! Quosh was definitely one of the best labels of the 2000s, particularly at the start of the decade with tracks like Tekno Harmony 2003, Product Of The Devil, If That’s Alright With You, Bring Me Round To Love etc. The style was just so effective: bouncy, driving and yet uplifting at the same time, and always had great songwriting. Sy’s scratching style was so unique too, there are many tracks from compilations he mixed where I know the scratches as well as the tracks themselves, and when I listen to the tracks on their own they sound empty without the scratches! Massive respect for Sy, a true GOAT.
Fantastic video! Sy has always been one of my faves. Thanks for doing what you do, mate. My vote for MC has to be Wottsee. With his involvement in football away from the rave scene I reckon there could be some good stories there. I remember growing up listening to tape packs, and first hearing him on Breeze's set at Helter Skelter Energy 2001. Breeze's track selection coupled with Wottsee's impeccable MCing have made it a firm fave set.

Brilliant vid! Learnt a lot from it. Sy certainly earnt his legendary status. Met him once at Die Hard in Leicester in the mid 90s, lovely friendly genuine nice guy. Think it was on the same night I met MC Charlie Brown, who was MC'ing from on the dance floor, having a great time dancing with everyone, just like another raver! Great times.

Thank you so much for the great video. Always the most entertaining DJ on any hardcore line up over the years and still is today. There's thousands of "copycat" dj's out there but none of them could lay a finger on Sy. Good luck to them...

The vocalists in the Hardcore scene would be good to do videos on too. Jenna Barr & Lisa Abbott have both sung on countless Hardcore tracks over the years 😎.
we loved DJ SY when we first heard him around 91, his scratching really made him stand out in the rave scene. - some great nights at Yikes and Swing at the Rivermead Centre in Reading.
DJ Sy was one of my favourites due to his unreal bonkers 6 wheel crazy mix, i bought that CD when i was a kid in HMV (years after it came out like) - took it everywhere with me even on holiday to Cyprus multiple times over the years with the old school portable cd walkmans. 'what is a DJ if he cant scratch.....wub-awubaba-wu-pa-pah - wha-whuwa-pa--wah-whoaaa'. Just want to also say cheers for making theses videos it must be a lot of graft to put in on the research side of it , we all appreciate it man.
Another outstanding video Stu, very informative and interesting. Sy was always one of the first tapes out of the pack back in the day and is easily in my top 5 DJ's of all time, a true legend of our scene. In regards to MC's surely Ribbz has got to be the first one interviewed, absolutely amazing he is.
mate this was brilliant! absolutely loved your video here. been a fan of Sy since I was a kid in Nottingham in the early 90s, always listened to Rave FM back in the day and saw Sy at some of the first ever parties I went to at the Marcus Garvey centre in Nottingham around that time. Used to buy my own records @ Fresh Groove records (notts) while I was still at high school. Been following Sy ever since so watching what you've put together here was the best. Fond memories dancing behind Sy on stage in the Rollers Arena at Helter Skelter Discovery 1st June 1996. One of the best raves ever. His set was epic despite some well worn dub plates.

Great great DJ. Might be just a personal opinion but that slammin vinyl oldskool classics album with Ellis Dee is one of the best things I've ever heard. Ellis Dee's mix was great too but SY man.... Boom

I wish some of his 90s work (DJ sets/production) in happy hardcore were a bit more harder and darker at times but still can't fault him as he was massive on the 4beat like seduction and slipmatt. It shows in quite a lot of his later productions that can be less vocal and more stabby with some darker melodies. Just not as hard on the kicks
Some of sy's venus mixes are unreal. I thought he was leagues ahead of most when comparing to other of the early 90/91 sets. Choice of tunes along with the scratching and dropping into another tune. Steve williams is also another unknown dj who did some class mixes
just found this channel. instant sub based on the videos before even watching any. if you're looking for any suggestions, would love to see a video on Dune (my gateway to the genre), or the events Fantazia and Dreamscape as I've been devouring mixtapes uploaded online from them. So it's a treat to hear Sy's story after listening to sets from '91-'92.

Great stuff. Use to love going to htid at club air. The best one I went to was htid 10 the beach ⛱ party. I think SY was the midnight set, I could be wrong. Billy Bunter was morning glory set. I love his early darker underground breakbeat hardcore. Absolute Don!! Big ups.

@@stuartkmusic probably comes down to how one defines 'many' - there's a dedicated clean cuts / trick or treat section in my collection which i'd say might've 15-20 records in there. not much in comparison to the entire collection which covers a shitload of stuff and is quite north of 5k in total but i feel it's a notable amount.

@@Deezissus250 without going into much detail, it was about a couple of images DJ Sy had in his possession that MC Storm, MC Keyes and Squad-E went berzerk over.
Storm had a grudge against sy. Squad E ended up dating his ex Mrs or something like that. Squad E also had mental health issues. Storm capitalised on that and set sy up using squad E as his puppet. Having spoken to Wayne he stuck by his guns in what they said about Sy but I just cannot see it being fully true. I do believe there was picture on his computer and his defence was that they were for promo and the girls were semi nude (in bikinis) however the girls in question were alleged to be 16. However these were not for sexual gratification and were for use in promo material. Something massively twisted out of proportion by storm
Any raves I went to back in the day (Helter Skelter) always made an effort to go to Sy’s sets cause I knew he would play good tracks. And tape packs Sy was usually the first one I’d listen to. Defo a hardcore legend! Same goes for Slipmatt/Hixxy/Dougal & Vibes/Force & Styles/Billy Bunter.

Cost to much to go now hardcore die when strom and sy fell out COVID was 2019 hardcore was dead from 2013 I was there

Brilliant vid! Learnt a lot from it. Sy certainly earnt his legendary status. Met him once at Die Hard in Leicester in the mid 90s, lovely friendly genuine nice guy. Think it was on the same night I met MC Charlie Brown, who was MC'ing from on the dance floor, having a great time dancing with everyone, just like another raver! Great times.
@Christian Clough I was the same and learned so much about him and the fact that he helped with a lot of the information has put him in even higher esteem for me now.
Thank you so much for the great video. Always the most entertaining DJ on any hardcore line up over the years and still is today. There's thousands of "copycat" dj's out there but none of them could lay a finger on Sy. Good luck to them...

we loved DJ SY when we first heard him around 91, his scratching really made him stand out in the rave scene. - some great nights at Yikes and Swing at the Rivermead Centre in Reading.

DJ Sy was one of my favourites due to his unreal bonkers 6 wheel crazy mix, i bought that CD when i was a kid in HMV (years after it came out like) - took it everywhere with me even on holiday to Cyprus multiple times over the years with the old school portable cd walkmans. 'what is a DJ if he cant scratch.....wub-awubaba-wu-pa-pah - wha-whuwa-pa--wah-whoaaa'.

Another outstanding video Stu, very informative and interesting. Sy was always one of the first tapes out of the pack back in the day and is easily in my top 5 DJ's of all time, a true legend of our scene. In regards to MC's surely Ribbz has got to be the first one interviewed, absolutely amazing he is.

mate this was brilliant! absolutely loved your video here. been a fan of Sy since I was a kid in Nottingham in the early 90s, always listened to Rave FM back in the day and saw Sy at some of the first ever parties I went to at the Marcus Garvey centre in Nottingham around that time. Used to buy my own records @ Fresh Groove records (notts) while I was still at high school. Been following Sy ever since so watching what you've put together here was the best. Truly brilliant work, please do keep going and do what you do. Really appreciated this. Great work thank you 💯

Fond memories dancing behind Sy on stage in the Rollers Arena at Helter Skelter Discovery 1st June 1996. One of the best raves ever. His set was epic despite some well worn dub plates.

Great great DJ. Might be just a personal opinion but that slammin vinyl oldskool classics album with Ellis Dee is one of the best things I've ever heard. Ellis Dee's mix was great too but SY man.... Boom

I wish some of his 90s work (DJ sets/production) in happy hardcore were a bit more harder and darker at times but still can't fault him as he was massive on the 4beat like seduction and slipmatt. It shows in quite a lot of his later productions that can be less vocal and more stabby with some darker melodies. Just not as hard on the kicks
Some of sy's venus mixes are unreal. I thought he was leagues ahead of most when comparing to other of the early 90/91 sets. Choice of tunes along with the scratching and dropping into another tune.
Steve williams is also another unknown dj who did some class mixes

Great stuff. Use to love going to htid at club air. The best one I went to was htid 10 the beach ⛱ party. I think SY was the midnight set, I could be wrong. Billy Bunter was morning glory set. I love his early darker underground breakbeat hardcore. Absolute Don!! Big ups.

I’m the other way round although, I don’t really have many of either in my 12’s.
@@stuartkmusic probably comes down to how one defines 'many' - there's a dedicated clean cuts / trick or treat section in my collection which i'd say might've 15-20 records in there. not much in comparison to the entire collection which covers a shitload of stuff and is quite north of 5k in total but i feel it's a notable amount.
Sy is a legend n a inspiration to me hence why I learnt to scratch before I could mix lol big love to skelter fantasia hysteria 🎉😊❤

What was the controversy?
@@Deezissus250 without going into much detail, it was about a couple of images DJ Sy had in his possession that MC Storm, MC Keyes and Squad-E went berzerk over.
Storm had a grudge against sy. Squad E ended up dating his ex Mrs or something like that. Squad E also had mental health issues. Storm capitalised on that and set sy up using squad E as his puppet. Having spoken to Wayne he stuck by his guns in what they said about Sy but I just cannot see it being fully true. I do believe there was picture on his computer and his defence was that they were for promo and the girls were semi nude (in bikinis) however the girls in question were alleged to be 16. However these were not for sexual gratification and were for use in promo material. Something massively twisted out of proportion by storm

Any raves I went to back in the day (Helter Skelter) always made an effort to go to Sy’s sets cause I knew he would play good tracks. And tape packs Sy was usually the first one I’d listen to. Defo a hardcore legend! Same goes for Slipmatt/Hixxy/Dougal & Vibes/Force & Styles/Billy Bunter.
